  1. these short quarters are [censored].
  2. Petracca River and Fritta. Wowweeee. Watching with Carlton supporters. Banking on a Carlton comeback. 'cause Melbourne.
  3. Caro said up to half the seats in Gabba would be available for fans. Then said only 1000 would be allowed in. Same for GWS. AFL, NSW and QLD have all denied this. Provided there isn't a second wave I'm predicting crowds at games in 4 weeks. That rules out Pies and Tigers from going to WA hub. Just our luck we'll be shipped off to WA just as fans are allowed in.
  4. So it's BAU for GWS then.
  5. if in 4 weeks time there is little to no community transmission following mass protests then governments will need to start reassessing current strategy. including easing rules around large gatherings. im still confident tbh that we'll see a live match this year at some point. at worst it'll be 1/3 of tickets available (1 person every three seats).
  6. society isn't declining because of late stage capitalism. Market economies are perhaps at historically their strongest ever (with more slowly transitioning out of mass poverty every day). let's not give a free pass to the degeneration public discourse; the obscene nature modern "progressive" politics; and the amplification of fractured nationalism. I don't think any of those are a result of capitaliam. Interesting you would be critical of capitalism, though, given Melbourne's biggest problem over the past 5 decades has arguably been both its lack of market competitiveness and its inept business tact. Decades of handouts and -- surprise surprise -- we're still garbage. How shockingly dense and weirdly confident the club was to ditch a known (and legal) revenue generator, all for the sake of some feel good "woke" PR. But hey I guess our "morality" is in check. Right alongside our $10 million debt and few (strong) assets to ride the bump.
  7. How much pain does alcohol cause? shall we ditch Furphy as well? "Poker machines account for over 80% of problem gamblers" But how many gamblers have a "problem"?
  8. how depressing. we are stuck in that rough patch between not having enough money to invest/save/grow, and not having enough investment/savings/growth to bring in enough money. The Circle of Doom.
  9. who gives a [censored]? you could say this about quite literally any vice. get woke go broke.
  10. Should be a significant Federal Government bailout imo. How many community programs do pro sports leagues run and invest in? What about the impact they have on hospitality and retail industries? Pro sports stand as a key pillar of successful community and industry growth. The government shut down the league. The government should boot it up again.
  11. Nathan Buckley-esque guns.
  12. In all seriousness by October or November or whenever the Grand Final takes place, we'd surely then be able to gather in crowds. You're talking 5 months away. We're two months into restrictions and already slowly rolling them back. My money is on fans returning to games in some capacity this season, at the very least with a seat between each patron.
  13. Fritsch's ceiling is super high. Would be crazy to let him go.
  14. This year has basically granted Goodwin a get out of jail free card. Whether he needs to play that card is yet to be determined. He'll be coaching in 2021 regardless of how we go this year. Even as someone that isn't fond of Goodwin's coaching, I'd be [censored] at the club if they went through the process of sacking him and paying him out, and then going through the hiring process (and likely overpaying) for another coach. It would be irresponsible at this point.
  15. Must say I'm quite impressed by the 90s pop culture references from today's youth.
  16. Summary for anyone that can't watch the video: "Nice nice nice. Goooood one. Nice [insert player name]. Nice nice. [sneaky jab at Langdon or Clarry]. Nice nice. Good skills. Nice."
  17. Absolutely no idea how we'll go. If I had one prediction to be honest I think it's that one of the heavy weights are going to have a poor season and will struggle to gain momentum. One of Collingwood GWS or Eagles.
  18. while I'm in the "it wasn't an aberration" crowd, I don't think a win or loss would tell us either way. The only way we can truly determine whether or not it was an aberration is to look at the same sample size. Our performance across the year will tell us.
  19. looking forward to Kent playing the best game of his career and tearing us up.
  20. It was a Schwab initiative that involved colouring and whiteboards.
  21. Losing Pike after 94 was massive. Very much our Dennis Rodman. Could read the play so well and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Pity he had such an affinity for the grog.
  22. for players wishing to play position neutral.
  23. You must have misheard. We are mid-range for pretty much every futures bet, including the flag, most (and least) wins, top 8, top 4 etc. Not even close to being "favourites" for the spoon at every major outlet I've seen, nor have they "firmed" in any market, let alone the wooden spoon.
  24. Daniher should have been moved on after 2003. And definitely after our breakdown in 2004. In 2005 we lost 7 games in a row and barely made finals..In 2006 we lost our first 3 games and also lost to Carlton twice (won 3 games for the year) costing us a top 4 spot. In hindsigh it is rather astonishing that Daniher lasted as long as he did.
  25. doubtful. too high a business risk. suspect it'll be operational/football staff let go.
