  1. Robert Menzies was said to drive his car into Princess park to watch his Blues. he had some effect on the Blues I believe. How did the Brown paper Bag-Man end up a Blue I wonder... and not to mention Malcolm Fraser. The Saints had a Fox. The Lions had no one, did they ? The Roos ? The Cats ? The Sth Melb Swans ? We had Billy Snedden, for a while. All these teams have struggled for most of the past 50 Yrs. Apart from Cats since the turn of the century. And the Swans up in the Harbour City.
  2. HaHaHa... you've changed your tune, 'od'.
  3. Injured ? He jogged off with a limp, following the play downfield... he played out the game, and I bet he trains today... injured you say ? Must have been a shocker of an injury then, to keep him from sprinting ? when jogging was fine... the game was on the line. That piece of play reminds me of 'Wattshisface', trying (or not), to chase when under Roosy, in the early years..
  4. I agree with this, and early season both Oli and Gus were terribly wasteful out of the centre, with the ball forward. I reckon, he has to be more careful with his kicks into F50, so being on the Wing allows him less of an excuse for having no time, or space, to Use the ball well. Its a development strategy IMO. And allows Jones to go inside. Since that time, we have been improving as a team. The difference between idealism and practicalities I think. Hunt was 'wishful' down back imv, and has shone, up forward. His natural instinctive position. Practical over idealistic.? Same with TMc, 2 years ago, the move out of defence has saved his career with us. In defence back then, he was sloppy. He has improved hand over fist in that time, and has now more confidence IMO, in his field kicking, than he did years back. Fritta, in the past couple of years, imv has been learning the game in the seniors... and playing back at times, to learn, while his agility and skills help us to get on the positive side of the ledger. He doesn't have a 'Spot' yet, because he's learning many positions. On a needs basis. I think when he grows physically stronger, he will eventually find a preferred position.
  5. We were all deluded, over the off season, and look what happened... it snowballed.
  6. If he aimed to kick the ball with a low trajectory and with penetration, this may aid him, from swinging his leg across the line of goal... it would be very difficult to lean back, when your going to kick the ball low and hard. He's a different player from the FF line going at the ball coming to meet it. He plays with more instinct there... Up the field he is lost, in trying to set up attacks.
  7. Not really... when he played well at Casey last week, almost bog... then miraculously was said to be sore a few days later... a look ahead from that time, and we play the Suns on the road up in QLD, and then on the road to Perth, after only 6 day break. Nrmally he would have been expected to play the Suns. But Keilty did reasonably that week, in particular showed some smart work in the ruck. So then Weide was rested for being sore.... and here we are now looking striaght into the Perth matchup. Spargo was out of both teams this week, as was Weide, and someone else if I recall, who escapes me.
  8. The development of these players has been good, but we still don't do it anywhere near as well as other clubs so we then have to pay a high price for developed players. It's about culture, 'o_d'. Gawn or TMc didn't really develop to their abilities, under the old soft loser culture, that we've suffered from for a long time... decades. It was the AFL, thru 'PJ' and 'Roosy', that turned us about, and set us up with knowledgeable people off field, that know the game. We have had decades of our elected people at board level, who do not understand footy... how to build winning AFL footy culture, into a club. And how to grow this club. It's been those lost decades of poor leadership that has put us well behind the 8 ball. It all starts with elected officials... of which we've been electing people, recommended by Mcc friendly Mfc people... and we follow their voting recommendations like sheep, of which I remember trusting in their recommendations myself... over the years. This is because we don't know these people 1st hand, because we do not have a meeting place where we all meet and get to know one another. The Mcc is a closed off establishment... and this is why we fail to get the correct people elected and in charge of Our footy club. It's all linked up together the causes of our Ills. Mostly all come from the same issues. We are playing a perpetual catch-up... in AFL. Because we are beholden to the Mcc.
  9. rested, 'EH'.

  11. I'd like to know the stats of how many times he has been 'let-off', at the tribunal over his career... because two weeks in a row, is too many. I don't believe he hasn't been up to the tribunal before this season. I think I can recall him visiting that establishment, before this year.
  12. Why can't a Winger go into defence to receive the ball, ahead of him bringing the ball up field Via run or foot-skills... If he kicks it ahead, he can run to get involved again. It will take a lot of running.
  13. Ball had clearly left the play, and he went to stop the players run... deliberately got him high, off the play. He should be gone.
  14. We need him fit and healthy for the next month of matches. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/Team/fixture#season=CD_S2019014&round=CD_R201901408 IMO, he was held out until this weeks VFL game, in order to let his shoulder heal, as best it can.?
  15. it was 1985... 1984 we were denied training on the whole Mcg surface... with the Mcc roping off the entire cricket wicket centre with stick in posts and ropes.... no player was allowed in there whist training... Only staff could go in to retrieve the often wayward footy. so the players had to do circle work. The Mcc were not aiding in any way noticeable... and did not help with decent spaces to improve things, like bigger gymnasium, and other facilities. etc. They were a constant handbrake on Barassi's demon rebuild times. http://demonwiki.org/Junction+Oval
  16. That's because we aren't good enough, Yet... Our list isn't good enough yet. We are just changing the culture, to hard work and contested stuff. When that is ingrained, will will start adding more layers of skilled and more outside types, ontop of those of our best hardened players. IMO, We started to do this last draft. With quickish small forwards, after Bringing in 'May', to take the load off OMc. And oBaker from the 2017 season. We're on our way. I don't think the club ever said we were there already, and just need some icing ontop... we are not to that point, Yet. In our own minds we all know we're not ready. We are still building to the great list, we're hoping for. I don't think you would get good odds, on which type of player we will be looking for, this year.
  17. Pardon me your honour. You were right. Harmes hips were pointing towards goal.. and it slewed off. I did not notice that detail last night. I didn't scrutinise it closely, as it won us the game anyway.
  18. I've slept til 2.30pm, after falling asleep on the couch, until 5.30 am. You've convinced me to go back and look for that replay of the last 2 minutes again, in the Twilight of day.
  19. I agree, i think Harmes had his sites set on TMc. TMc would have marked it last year, but his confidence is lower, atmo.
  20. I scrambled together a team last night, for Perth . I had tSmith at CHF, because he is a mobile tall who has some lateral movement, and is prepared to stand his ground under a high ball. Also is very handy down lower to ground level, and is hard to knock off his feet. IMO he can be handy inside contests. So for these reasons, I have him at CHF. And him being a bit smaller (an in-between key tall in height, adds some variety to our skills). In that side, I had Preuss and Weide side by side with Hunt. Speed and height. Obviously Weide has to push up field, starting from the goal mouth, leaving Hunt and Preuss deeper. Hunt to continue his role as is. tSmith to roll around the front-half offensively, essentially playing TMc's, high half-forward role. TMc has to go to CHB in my view... as I do NOT want to see Lever in for a couple more weeks yet. If Lever was to injure that knee again, coming back in Cold... there will be Hell to Pay. We will go in a bit taller this week, on a bigger ground, so ANB and others Run, will be critical. I'm not sure Garlett should play this week... think I prefer Spargo who seems to have been rested.
  21. Yes... but probably not as well as Keilty. The best replacement tall is TMc for CHB, to stop eagles forward thrusts. With Hibbo out, and Lewis injured, experience is required, to maintain composure.
  22. I think they have selected and rested players... with a selection View to a block of games. Yesterdays game and, in 6 days time over in Perth.
  23. IF Oscar couldn't chase for injury, then he has a reason. So then it comes back down the chain (Oli)... or for someone in our forwardline out of View, to get up on Holman. It's obvious that Oli didn't think of blocking in time... so focused on offence.
  24. knees a tremble 'ET'.. next time use the couch ol fella. ?
  25. Hore, OMc, Frost jWagner, TMc, Salem Stretch, Jones, Brayshaw Lockhart, tSmith, Fritsch Preuss, Weide, Hunt Gawn, Oliver, Harmes Int: ANB, Viney, Petracca, Garlett, Spargo injuries [ Hibberd, Lewis, Melksham ] Outs: Keilty
