Some perspective on the new competition and the clubs involved - 2021 VFL Round 1 review: Queensland teams make their mark

I don't think the mix of eastern states clubs outside of Victoria with the Victorian clubs is going to work. The economics of playing interstate for the number of games necessary to maintain the integrity of the competition aren't helpful (I suspect the cost side is why the competition is 16 rounds and why it started four weeks after the AFL which isn't satisfactory). A conference system won't really improve this situation in my view.

It might come as a surprise but the VFL season has already begun. There was a game earlier this afternoon between Sandringham and Richmond at Punt Road with the Tigers winning by 40 points. There’s a night game on at Frankston with the other Tigers from Coburg leading by a couple of goals. Strangely enough, nobody can find the named teams for any game at this point in time.
