  1. Goal to Pies after dispute about whether the ball was touched.
  2. Hogan first score of the second quarter but its only a point.
  3. Quarter Time: Collingwood 2.2.14 Casey 1.4.10 Hogan - 1 goal
  4. Pies goal after a few Casey misses. 14-10.
  5. No Tapscott, Yarra. Casey are low on AFL listed players today with a number of their regulars injured. Sellar is another of the selected players who isn't out there either. They trail 1.1.7 to 1.2.8 halfway through the first quarter.
  6. Jesse Hogan goal.
  7. Collingwood gets the first goal of the match and leads by that margin.
  8. As we embark on a vital fixture for the Scorpions at Victoria Park against Collingwood (we're 15 minutes away from the opening siren and no, we're not on the telly) some reading material from today's Age. Firstly, from the pen of Demon champion Garry Lyon: Draft hopefuls can learn from VFL stint Secondly, the Age VFL writer tips Collingwood to win: Veterans give Pies a boost against Casey The teams last met on 8th June this year and the Scorps had a convincing win by 15 goals. The team hasn't changed greatly since then although it will miss the injured Tom Couch who's a real ball magnet at this level. Casey has also dropped form lately and has lost its last two games which included a belting at Werribee and a narrow loss at home against Essendon who they also thrashed earlier in the year. The Pies have improved greatly and, as the article says, this week they have the added advantage of some seasoned footballers in the team. Should be interesting.
  9. Just a couple of things to note:- • the Casey teams are taken from the club website and differ a little to the ones published on the VFL site; and • Dan Nicholson named in the Development League squad. He's also an emergency for the seniors. This suggests to me that if he doesn't get a run for Melbourne against North, he might be given a run with the DL team on Sunday morning; and • This week's mystery injury of the week is Tom Gillies.

  11. Casey Scorpions lose by 11 points but it was a dismal effort with Essendon dominating the final term. 12. Goal to Essendon from a free gives them a 7 point lead and breathing space.
  13. First goal of the game to Jesse Hogan who brings the Scorps back into the game.
  14. Goal to the bombers who are now 7 points in front. Casey struggling to score and playing an undisciplined game.
  15. Scores level at the 5 minute mark of the final term as the Bombers have done all the attacking. Hogan off with a knock.
  16. Three quarter time: Casey Scorpions 8.3.51 lead Essendon 5.8.38 with the Bombers having the wind in the final quarter. The breeze is worth 4 goals so it's not looking good for the Scorpions.
  17. Bombers have held sway this quarter and have just hit the front with a goal.
  18. Casey 3.3.21 to Essendon 0.2.2
  19. Casey Scorpions open with the win and lead 2.3.15 to Essendon's solitary point at the 12 minute mark.

  21. Incidentally, I won't be able to provide reports from the game tomorrow due to a family commitment. I will try to provide scores from time to time but would appreciate it if others at the ground could provide updates.
  22. With Box Hill losing to the Northern Blues and Williamstown struggling against Port Melbourne, a win tomorrow becomes doubly important to the Scorpions with the VFL announcing finals venues. The top two teams have the right to home ground advantage in the first week of the finals. Week 1 (Saturday August 31 Sunday September 1) Qualifying & Elimination Finals Top two teams at the end of the home and away games would be eligible to host a home final. Two remaining games will be at North Port Oval, Port Melbourne. Week 2 (Saturday September 7 Sunday September 8) Semi Finals Both games at North Port Oval, Port Melbourne. Week 3 (Saturday September 14 Sunday September 15) Preliminary Finals Both games at North Port Oval, Port Melbourne. Development League Grand Final to be played on Saturday September 14 as a curtain raiser. Young Guns game to be played on Sunday September 15 as a curtain raiser. Week 4 (Sunday September 22) Grand Final Etihad Stadium will be the venue for the Peter Jackson VFL & TAC Cup and Grand Finals
  23. The Scorps won easily last time they met in one of the early rounds. Will Casey overcome its injury woes and beat the Bombers? The game v Essendon is the club's annual Pink Ribbon game. The players will wear pink jumpers to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Congratulations to Casey Scorpions Captain Evan Panozza who will this week play his 100th Senior VFL Game for the club. A great achievement in the VFL these days!
