  1. I couldn't care less if we are nice to deal with. Gees. that is the last thing id care about. I want the best deal for the club. Hold your ground. i'll give Mahoney something, he was honest when explaining the positions of the deals in his running commentary. this is what I base it off. He stated in the lever deal a first and second round was fair and the crows wanted two first rounders. what did we give up? 2 first rounders with some loose change. With watts - despite the club really treating the whole situation poorly and diminishing your trade position by being so public, what did he think in the watts deal was fair? early second round. What did we get? a late second round? and no pick upgrades to compensate. Deals were done in record time and basically gave in. it was as if he didn't want to have the conversations. I'm sure he did. but gave in far to easily. Look at carlton. all their deals were done in the last few hours and on their terms and in their favour. take a lesson from SOS. End
  2. there is a long list often publicised in the media at our football clubs expense of our poor track record in the draft when it was the most critical time to get it right. Craig Cameron leaving during this period and then us appointing Barry Prendegast as head recruiter is the worst appointment in the history of this club. Worse than any player picked or coach hired. He was hopeless. As you know, he left for carlton before we could give him the sack, in a completely different role nothing to do with recruiting. I've said on many occasions, we would of had a good team if I was in charge of recruiting during this time. They'd all be the same type of player, hard tough ball winners, but still, you wouldn't have a toumpas or a lucas cook bust. Add in Gawn and Howe, who they did pick when I wanted them too. Anyway enough pumping my own tyres whilst lamenting. There's good reason west coast have done what they have this year with getting heavily invested in the second round. The talent in WA are around those picks and should really fill needs of theirs. Unfortunately they are also needs of ours. Goal kicking mids and small forwards. In order of who I'd pick this year with the players who I think will be around/ available at our picks are. tim kelly brendan starcevich gryan myers liam ryan bailey frietch matthew ling Hamish Brayshaw there are a couple of other's I wouldn't be to upset with in the mix but depending on who we do draft at 29 and 31, will affect on the later choices That order is my order of preference (especially the first 4). Like I said, others would come into the mix with frietch/ling(who should be well gone by pick 47) and brayshaw, depending on who we do get with the first two picks. Get those first 4 and I'd be over the moon. convinced the first 2 will be going to west coast before us though. they have 3 pick before us before we have 2 picks, before their next choice. time will tell
  3. Maybe not higher than 31. But could of upgraded 47 or even 36. Look foolish if our desired player goes one pick earlier. Mahoney has stated that it was easier. His responsibility is to get the best deal for the club and us members. Mahoneys negotiation skills are horrible. He’s mastered the lose- win outcome of negotiation. If Mahoney was a hostage negotiator they’d all be dead and the guy would be sunning it up on a tropical island.
  4. You read my mind. His "highlights package" actually showed him missing a goal from 2 metres out. I Laughed watching his u/18 carnival cos he was so hopeless I was certain if there’s one player I don’t want it was him. Sure enough...
  5. Looks competitive and has some real pace. I like him
  6. I've always said jack needs a four letter word beginning with c installed in him - or killer instinct for a nicer way to put it. But I can't see how dividing the playing group and supporters with this decision and how they've handled it as in the best interests of the club. We need to be as one moving in the same direction. Dragging watts in house up to the standards surely would have been a better option. Especially if we're getting bigger all for him and paying him to play against us
  7. Tru True. If a flag comes our way then watts lever and any other move will be vindicated. I just don't think that when this time of year is for improving your list that trading watts for a second round pick does that. When in today's age of footballer, sensitive and unhardened, that making the group uncomfortable and kicking out a much loved teammate in this public way, does a whole lot for the comraderie of the rest of the group. I personally think they should all push hard and pull out all stops. We've had no success for 53 years. But this and the Viney co captain decision, sort of fly on the face of what Richmond have done and united as one.
  8. It's in the same boat as the stringer situation. The club has put out statements that diminish his value at the trade table. Our public position is he should look elsewhere. That is hard line and so they are going to throw him away for nothing. It's poor all round.
  9. Leaving rookies aside, McKenna, Johnstone, Garland, Wagner and King are endangered species. Kent, Pederson, Bugg, Vince and Vanders would be on the next line of betting. Pretty sure Kennedy Harris was extended through to end of 2019. We need to hit free agency hard for once. We have really only ever been on the other end of it. Be nice to benefit for once. Means we need to not lose anyone to freeagency also (Gawn, Jetta, Tommy mac). Gaff would be my number 1 target. Lynch I hope stays with the suns. Be sad for football to see him play for anyone other than them ( or us if Hogan leaves). Clearly our our list needs are another small goal kicking pressure forward, outside class and hard running ball use, and another a class mid. We also got ministered by big tall marking forwards this year. Think we have put a lot of faith in oscar and got him the fist over the top in lever this year. Part of your point is why i have come to terms with watts going. We need a future second round for him, on top of upgrading picks this year. Eg pick 45 and 35 for port's pick 30 and 33. Would gove us 28,30 and 33 in this years based on Balic trade in for a later pick. Gees port gave done done well this free agency period.
  10. Very late pick for me. Depth on a list for me. Pick 65 at most I would have thought for a mentally unstable unproved talent with questionable disposal and speed who is yet to adapt to afl life.
  11. Have we committed to elevating Joel smith from the rookie list? If so and jack goes, and we recruit balic, does that leave us with 3 selections at the draft?
  12. I am in the we shouldn't be trading watts camp. What I don't understand is that this time of year is about improving your overall list. Our list is better with jack on it than a mid-late second round pick. I am annoyed at how the club has diminished any trade value and leverage it has as well as concerned about the effect on the team. Getting rid of a hugely popular teammate under these circumstances cannot be a good thing for togetherness and morale. Hardwick took his team to flag this year on that basis. Yes pressure play as well, which has been the knock on jack but I still think he makes our list better. Coming to terms with that he is gone. We should be going after ports 2nd round next year as well as an upgrade of pick 45 to pick 30. That values jack as a pick 22. We hold the whip hand here. It should be on our terms and not throw him away for nothing. We held the whip hand in the lever deal also but bent over on that as well. I am not understanding what is going on at the club at the moment. It's starting to concern me and give me a sick neeld feeling. This feeling wasn't there before all this jack business. It was another sick feeling of missing finals
  13. If we are trying to lure a free agent on big coin to play in 2016, and the afl has adjusted payments so if your salary cap one year is lower you can make up for it the next, structure jones' contract so that next year he is on good money but the followng year he will get a real good pay packet as well as whoever we can attract. we will be able to pay more. How we have been paying the full salary cap to our list the last few years is beyond me. lot of wasted dollars.
  14. have it on good authority we will not land dangerfield treloar or dylan shiel. It just will not happen. Sorry
  15. I know his rellies in Adelaide. Wants to go back to SA with port Adelaide. Watch this space. He is related also to jack Hannath of freo who we had promised a spot to. This has nothing to do with where he is going but just puttin it out there
  16. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The afl cannot just end its investigation into tanking with Melbourne. It must investigate the other clear examples of exactly what Melbourne dif and go through it all. They need to do this regardless of the result they pin against us. We did nothin different to half a dozen other clubs at various times and they too should be investigated as we have been. And we should sue for defamation and tarnishing our image. The whOle ordeal has been shambolic. They are picking and choosing who they listen to in terms of making allegations. It's a joke. My thoughts are that the afl should come out and admit that there was incentive improperly placed that encouraged the best thing to do for a football club in that position may not to win games and that the system has since been addressed. And that there is not enough evidence to charge the club with any wrong doing in the situation. That is one way to close the whole ordeal. They then should move on to investigate the other clubs. It would be very ironic to see Brock mcclean's Carlton actually found guilty and punished of their clear tanking, wouldn't it. That would bring a smile to my face and be a nice way to end it all
  17. I still think he has value. Like I said I think he'll be at essendon as that is where my mail tells me he will be. Don't know any details as to what we would receive. Maybe melb would be happy to leave compensation to the afl as he is a recent club b&f winner. Apparently that has some weight in the mystery afl formula. But who really knows. I think the 'formula' is the afl commission deciding on a whim and playing god.
  18. I love the bloke. One of my favorite players so I don't want to see him go. Need a few older heads to lead. He led by example on field last year and I think we need him to stay
  19. Have heard Beamer is seeking/hoping to be playing for essendon next season. Think he's played his last game for us. Which is sad cos I always believed his blood was red and blue. Part of the reason he's not in the seniors.
  20. I've still go t my Grand Final Guarantee as one year it will come in handy. What got me to start becoming a member 14 years ago was my grandfather being given a free kids membership as an option with his. now for the first couple of years after that after the initial free membership he paid for it, but as soon as i got a part time job and now full time i've been paying up each year. The club should do another thing like this if feasable, even now with the 3 game memberships available. give one kids 3 game membership free as an option with a full priced adult 18 game membership. It could well pay dividends with the next generation of young demons who will hopefully see a sustained period of successs for the MFC. I know they are already doing something with the Casey donation program of giving away tickets and i think this too is a brilliant idea. get the kids hooked like i was at an early age and every year they see that years of consecutive membership number grow, the more unlikely they are to let it lapse once they stand on their own two feet.
  21. we'll hurt GWS in a couple of years. first we have to suck them off a bit more to get the first pick in the mini draft and get O'meara by trading future first round pick to them which will be pick 2 for them next year as they'll come bottom. Then we load up a package and take John patton of their hands. we will see who wins this battle.
  22. i to have got a gig to this lunch for the first time through some casey connections. i am quite excited but really all i want is for the team to turn up to play.
  23. to be honest i said donate them to a kid so i didn't pick them up. but yes i would like to hve a few victory beers tomorrow night all being well. cheers
  24. DemonWA, i am flying over tomorrow from melbourne to see the game and was wondering if there were any after match functions or anything planned? thanks
