Our position is we don’t close threads just because someone thinks we’ve finished talking about a topic. Closure is only for if the thread needs to be shut down in order to maintain the code of conduct or protect the site.

Trengove to Debut for Port
How many Jake Spencers (Js) though?

The club may take the view that it’s a waste of time trying. I’d be inclined to think if he still couldn’t manage it despite Scott clearly being frustrated by it and his career being at risk as a result, there’s a chance he just doesn’t have it in him. Like you it perplexes me how it can be possible to not be able develop that aspect to a player’s game in the AFL environment, but it would seem that it is.

Demonland Podcast with Josh Mahoney TONIGHT 14/11 @ 8:30pm
Great idea. Give a guest who is giving up his time to the fans for free a grilling as if you’re frigging A Current Affair. If you want the podcast to be unable to attract guests in the future, this would be a good place to start. This is a good opportunity to get him to clarify things that aren’t clear or explain the process in making the decisions, but levelling the questions as accusations from an ignorant position would just make us look like morons.

Demonland Podcast with Josh Mahoney TONIGHT 14/11 @ 8:30pm
Oh wow, nice get. Lots of topics you could ask Josh about: 1) how he made the transition from coach (Bailey brought him here as an assistant) to administrator - I recall him saying at one stage he didn’t enjoy coaching as he thought he would or words to that effect. 2) A bit of his time as a player. He was a battler/journeyman type as a player. 3) Some general background on what happens in trade week - are some clubs as hard to deal with as they seem and can that be an obstruction to getting deals done? 4) some specifics from this trade week - did the club have a view that Jesse going was inevitable eventually? How long had we been courting May?

Trengove to Debut for Port
It’s unheard of, really. He averages just under 10 games a season, so he’s been afforded a slack that very few players would have had. Hopefully things finally come together for him. Fair to say I’m not optimistic, but best of luck to him.

Cheap player in = reject from another club, must be fatally flawed Cheap player out = Mahoney blinked and let the MFC get bent over Stock standard goal post moving from those that aren’t happy unless they’re unhappy.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Agreed. I think my opinion settled on him when watching a rare televised Casey game last year where he kicked a bag of 7. He’d already shown his cleanly use of the ball in the seniors, but this game showed aerial dominance which hadn’t been evident until then. I’ve thought since then that as long as he has the appetite for hard work, for us it’s just sit back and patiently wait until he fills out and gains the confidence that comes with it. I understand why some want to see it to believe it; we’ve all been disappointed before, but sometimes I think people should just look at what’s right in front of them. Some people used Weideman’s name in the same sentence as Lucas Cook. That’s a position I didn’t understand even at the time and looks beyond stupid now.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I thought at the time Hogan was settled and wouldn’t go. I don’t think I was emphatic about it, it’s just what I thought. I did comment about the stupid tone in the “trade Hogan” movement when they popped up every time we lost. I also didn’t think the club would actively seek a trade, based on the picture that seemed apparent to me at the time, however the picture looked pretty different by the end. My bum is fine, thanks for asking.

Rumour File
I don’t agree with that. Wanting to go home and not wanting to go to Freo aren’t mutually exclusive positions. “I want to go home” and “I want to go home at all costs” are different propositions. The inability to get a deal done with West Coast means he’s faced with two poor choices: not make it home, or go to Freo, and he chose. It doesn’t discredit his desire to get home, it just means it was trumped by his desire not to play for Fremantle. Who could blame him?

He is a skilled bullshit artist. All his posts have an element of credibility, that’s why so many believe his crap.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
He was just sharing information rp. Not sure why you’d pot him for that. Nup, can’t say it with a straight face.

It’s nice that you’re going to love Sam May but how will you feel about Steven, Ron?

Let the Yawn Fest Begin
I’ve never been able to get in to those yank sports. I’ve never understood how you can come to barrack for a team without some kind of tie to it, be it geographically or parental indoctrination. It always seems artificial to me, and without a team to support I find it hard to engage at all.

2019 Jumper Numbers
12 for Preuss so he is next to Max in the locker room.

Jason Taylor Resume
That’s how I felt too. Especially now, when it seems the inbound player in May comes across as not being able to wait to get in. There’s a lot you don’t see during the trade period itself, but the facts start to get flushed out after the dust settles. Keeping him was probably a less attractive option than I thought at the time. I still don’t begrudge Hogan though. He couldn’t commit - fine, we swap him for a player who can. No sweat.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Hijacking the thread a little (I’ll create a new one later) but I’d give Preuss 12 so he’s next to Max in the locker room.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Hopefully he turns out capable. I can’t see the workload we had on Max this year as being sustainable going forward, so I expect at times Preuss will need to play whether he’s a capable forward or not. Especially now that we’ve lost our main forward, meaning moving TMac or Weid in to the ruck hurts more than it previously did.

2018 AFL NAB NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER
WJ did you put in the leg work yourself to track all the trades? Great work if so. The trading period always seems pretty benign until you see that this year the vast majority of the picks between 10 and 50 have changed hands at least once. Some of the have really been for a few spins around the block.

Another Dodo special. Essendon fans ought to be livid.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
For those who believe Mahoney caves too easy and should take a harder stance, consider Adrian Dodoro at Essendon, who has not for the first time just failed to deliver a trade for a big name player who wanted to go there. Edit: I’m dumb, trade period not closed yet. Hopefully this turns out to still be true in a few hours ?
