Farewell Luke Jackson
Jackson is out of contract. If a trade can’t be arranged, he walks to the preseason draft. Freo have the leverage as a result because we have more to lose. It will all come down to how reasonable both parties are. Freo could stooge us, but it’s not in their best interests to if they want to acquire Jackson smoothly and maintain a positive reputation for trading with the other clubs. Expect it will get done as projected for a first round pick this year and a future first round pick. Would rather higher picks or quality player like Young or Serong, but won’t happen unfortunately.

Port chasing Kozzy Pickett
Kane Cornes originally mentioned it and even said it was based off nothing. Then a few others in the media mentioned it as a rumor. Then Kane jumps up and down saying it's a rumour and Kozzy is likely leaving. All relevant parties - Melbourne, Kizzy's manager, Port Adelaide GM - have now shot this down. Jog on Kane you twerp! Now we just need to sign Kozzy up long term. Out of contract next year and he's one we can't afford to lose IMO.

2022 GRAND FINAL
Credit to the Cats. They belted them. Onto 2023 and if we add a quality KPF and tidy up our ball movement then we can take it up to them.

2022 GRAND FINAL
This has been an embarrassing effort from the Swans. They’ll be mentally scarred from this belting on the big stage. Clubs who get belted in a grand final rarely ever make it back. Plenty of young talent there, but they’ll be mentally shot now.

2022 GRAND FINAL
Absolute stinker of a grand final day. Hollow in every way and an atrocious game of football on display.

2022 GRAND FINAL
Reid should never have played, especially when they had other talls like McDonald and Amarty fit and ready. Swans weren’t strong enough in the air to cover him if he struggled.

2022 GRAND FINAL
Sydney have [censored] themselves. Belted at the contest today. We would’ve put up more of a fight even carrying players with broken legs haha Super embarrassing for the Swans today. They’ll be mentally scarred and go backwards next year as a result of this demolition. Dees we need to take notice of how to manage players and be fit heading into finals!

2022 GRAND FINAL
What a hollow day this is. It was awesome we won last year, but it’s hitting today that we didn’t get to experience it properly at the mcg. Who knows if we’ll make it back there in the coming years. What a [censored] one Don’t want either team to win. Both have some serious [censored] players. Papley is just about the biggest [censored] in the league.

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
Brisbane official statement, Fagan stepped down pending investigation. https://www.afl.com.au/news/847638/lions-coach-fagan-stands-down-after-hawks-racism-allegations

Port chasing Kozzy Pickett
Sign him long term. Already had back to back 40 goal seasons at such a young age. He's the most impactful part of our forward line due to his impact both offensively and defensively. He's part of our core for the next decade and would be a huge loss. Lock him in Dees!

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
One of the development coaches was directly implicated in this, pushing to cut off relationship, pushed abortion, fronted partner on players behalf etc. There is absolutely a chance Yze is part of this. Based on what I just read, seems all coaches were likely involved. He's innocent until proven otherwise though, so let's hope he wasn't involved and our club is doing better than the Hawks reportedly did!

Trade and Free Agency rumours
Agree with all this. Chandler plays his best footy roaming inside midfield at VFL level. He won't get that opportunity at AFL level as he's not on the level of Petracca, Oliver etc. If he isn't up to it as a small forward, or we won't try him properly there, then might be best if he looks elsewhere. He's at the stage where he's a tweener - too good for VFL but not quite up to AFL. At the right club though he'd get consistent AFL games. Bedford I'm not fussed about, but has speed so acts as good depth for small forwards. Spargo is the interesting one. He averages approx 12 touches a game and only kicked 10 goals from 24 matches this season. Averaging 2 tackles a game, so some defensive pressure, but not a lot. He's playing in an awkward position where we bomb it in and most of his opportunity is scraps amongst a nest of players flooding the pocket. When he's able to be part of the link up, he's a great kicking going inside 50, as evidenced by his percentage of kicks that lead to scores. If he's only doing that once a game though then it can be replaced by someone else who generates more opportunity even if they're less clean. On the scoring front, 10 goals from a permanent forward is not good enough. He had a period this season where he kicked 1 goal from 9 matches. That's unacceptable from a permanent forward. So he's not finding enough ball and he's not kicking nearly enough goals. He's a good decision maker and good kick, so if we can't maximise him in his forward position, we either need to try him in another position or replace him. His position on field is one that we clearly need to get more out of, whether by personal or gameplan. If there's a decent forward pocket/flank type option, then I'd be all for trading them in with an attempt to upgrade.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
That's an interesting one. I had him as a SuperCoach smokey a few years back so kept a keen eye on him. He played some decent footy 2-3 years back and was developing well. He's very much a run and kick player with decent skills. He was shifted from midfield to backline as GC brought in top draft picks like Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell and was less effective back there. As he's a good kick, I'd be all for chasing him if we could get him cheap. Would be a decent option on an opposing wing to Langdon IMO.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
These finals just show how far off our ball movement was this season. Overhaul of our offense needed over summer.
-
FINALS 2022: Week 03
Nearly over for the Lions here. Time to start taking risks and attacking hard through the corridor. Doesn’t matter if you lose by 100 points in a prelim, there is no tomorrow winning is all that matters. Can’t win playing this crap style of footy.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
Agreed, though it’s infuriating. If Sydney somehow don’t win, then this years premier must be considered extremely weak. Even Geelong are a bog average team away from home at GMHBA. This is excruciating watching this as we know we’ve wasted a year of our window. Our best would absolutely demonlish these two teams. Losing to Brisbane at home last week was one of the worst losses in decades IMO.
-
FINALS 2022: Week 03
These two teams are ****house. How did we lose to both these spuds. Brisbane especially. They’re the modern day Bradbury of football. At least Sydney are a legitimately good team. They deserve to win this year.

2022 Injury List
100% this. Geelong rested players all year and are now cherry ripe to challenge for a flag. We hurried injured players back and played them underdone instead of giving them time to heal. When you have players like Dunstan and Chandler absolutely demolishing the VFL, surely you can give them a game at AFL level to fill in for underdone players that need to be fit come finals time. The club stuffed it this year. Shame to hear TMac has re-injured his foot. That's probably also the result of rushing him back in 3 months when it is usually a 6 month recovery time for that type of injury. Hopefully he will still be able to get some preseason in and be ready for next season.

Lloyd Meek
We've shown interest, so he could be steak knives in the Jackson trade. Would be a better option than Grundy IMO, as he's younger and would be much much cheaper. Provides backup ruck for Gawn and the big Grundy money could be spent more important list needs such as a key forward, classy forward flanker or small lockdown defender.
-
Trade and Free Agency rumours
This is the sort of stuff we live for! Doesn't mean we're not chasing his signature though. Wouldn't be a bad option for our forward line for a year or two, would be a strong option who demands a decent defender for a bit before the likes of JVR and others take on more responsibility.
-
Jake Riccardi
Burst onto the scene and then stalled since. No improvement on Weid IMO. Neither is Corbett. Hopefully there are other tall forward options available, as the ones spoken about thus far are worse than Weid and wouldn't even make our 22!

Farewell Brodie Grundy
This is fine in theory. Problem is Grundy is a poor mark and takes a contest mark every four games or so. His poor marking has been the main thing that stopped him becoming the best ruckman in the game, and a reason why IMO he never had as much impact on matches as Gawn, even at their respective peaks. In terms of aerial marking, he is actually statistically worse than Jackson. So whatever we have with Gawn and Jackson in the air now, is likely better than what we'll have with Gawn and Grundy. There will be no improvement, the best we can hope for in marking contests is to maintain what we have if Grundy improves his output. The club seems to be rolling with the idea of Grundy being number 1 ruck, and Gawn playing mostly forward. It's a strange one as Gawn showed second half of this year that he's not great as a stay at home forward. He kicked 2 goals in 10 matches while playing forward for approx 55% gametime. That's a horrific conversion rate and makes Ben Brown look like he had an All Aus season! I cannot see a way we play both Gawn and Grundy and improve as a side. We're essentially diluting our strengths while not improving our weaknesses.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
It has to be posturing. Lobb has already bought a property in VIC and is moving interstate with his partner. He has requested a trade in consecutive years. He will move whether Freo like it or not, so it's up to Freo whether they'd like to get anything back for him in a trade. If Freo don't honour his request, he will simply claim mental health issues and walk. The mental health card, legitimate or not, can and will continue to be used by players to get out of poor situations. The players have too much power these days.
