  1. He’d be a good pickup for Casey to replace Mitch Brown. He wouldn’t do much for our AFL team though.
  2. He's a decent kick but not outstanding. He's failed to find much ball either midfield or half back, and his defensive efforts are often lacking. He's been around 7 season now and played 14 games this year for an average of 10 disposals and les than 2 tackles. It's no wonder he's been in and out of the team his whole career when not injured, as he really doesn't offer a lot offensively or defensively. I wouldn't bother chasing him when we'e already got better options and depth on the list. We've got other more pressing positional needs and would want bonafide best 22 quality player in the Jackson trade.
  3. If you want to phrase it that way, then yes! What's in Jackson's head and anything to do with him as a person is now irrelevant as he's not part of our club or future. What's in Tim Lamb's head is relevant as he's still part of our club and his decision making shapes our clubs future.
  4. That's a completely valid point. No draft pick is a certainty and there's been plenty of top 5 picks who went on to be duds. We've had more than our fair share of them! By the same token, the best players, especially tall forwards, are usually highly talented juniors taken in the first round of the draft. If you look at the Coleman medal winners, nearly every one for over a decade has been a first rounder. 2022 - Curnow - first round pick 2021 - H McKay - first round pick 2020 - Hawkins - father son pick 2019 - J Cameron - underage pre-draft (first round equivalent) 2018 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick 2017 - Franklin - first round pick 2016 - J Kennedy - first round pick 2015 - J Kennedy - first round pick 2014 - Franklin - first round pick 2013 - J Roughead - first round pick 2012 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick 2011 - Franklin - first round pick 2010 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick It's up to the recruiters to determine if they think Cadman's physical attributes, skillset, and personality mean he will flourish at AFL level or not. Based on his output and data on previous draftees, he's more likely to become a winner than not. No guarantees though!
  5. Thank you for that update with quotes supplied LH!
  6. Jackson made a decision to pursue football instead of basketball 5-6 years ago. Why does the decision to pursue one sport over another as a teenager matter to any of us? What does his family life matter to us supporters now that he's leaving? What value is there in speculating about any of it? I've been harping on about supporters accepting the decision and moving on, but clearly some of you are still in a stage of grief and having irrational discussions. I'll stop banging on in this thread now until the pointless probing and speculation of his family life is over and others are wanting to discuss what we value can extract in the Jackson trade. Personally I'm hoping we can pinch pick 2 from the Eagles, but unfortunately it seems likely he'll wind up at Freo for a few mid-late range first round picks.
  7. It’s not a bad thing at all. There’s also nothing wrong with what his mother posted in support of everyone. There’s no point dissecting it to create a narrative. I was attempting to convey that, albeit with sarcasm attached. Nothing wrong with someone having their family as a key part of their decision making process. More importantly I was trying to say no reason for people to be creating these narratives and having a crack when they don’t know the circumstances and it’s a pointless exercise. It’s all irrelevant, as the decision has been made now. We have no choice but to accept the decision and move on with the sole focus of extracting value from the trade, instead of looking in the rear view mirror at an unclear view.
  8. Cadman's not perfect, no prospect is. He's not the best with ground balls, and like most talls it may take him a few years to build enough strength to consistently win those grappling marking contests he excels at in his current competition age bracket. His strengths directly address our weaknesses though IMO. He's a really strong mark all round, whether on the lead, overhead, or in a wrestle. He played defense when he was younger and shifted forward this year to great effect due to being able to read the ball and play really well. There's multiple instances in the championships where he had the ball come in high and he marked it overhead while out-wrestling others or with blokes hanging off him in a pack. He's also a proven goal kicker, averaging 3.6 goals a game at underage level and being the leading goalkicker at underage level and the champs. Our main issues up forward are a strong marking tall target, and lack of goal scoring firepower. Cadman's a strong mark and big goal kicker. That's exactly what we need. He'd be the right target for us if we have a top 5 draft pick from the Jackson trade, as he's top 5 on talent and fills our biggest list hole.
  9. The post where she - as a member of the MFC supporters page - went out of her way to say MFC will always have a special place in their heart and graciously thanked club and fans? The one where a mother said she is proud of her son and looking forward to having him home again after a few years of Covid lockdowns? Nah haven’t seen that one yet, better post it in here again mate so we can all scrutinize it! Regardless of if his parents influenced his decision or not, the decision is made. We move on. There’s nothing to be gained by us all whinging and creating narratives to justify it to ourselves. Now he’s officially leaving, our focus should solely be on what value we can extract in a trade to improve our team.
  10. It’s Trav, not Nev 🙃 We traded our future first (2022) for a first round pick in the 2021 draft, which we then used to draft Jacob Van Rooyen. Our first round pick in this draft now sits with Sydney. So we essentially traded 14 this year for 17 least year, got a player in with an extra year of development. Decent enough trade, but means we have no current picks until our second round pick at 32.
  11. As we traded away our first round pick for 2022 already last year, our first pick is now our second round pick at 32. This will fall back further after academy and father son picks. We should be aiming for West Coasts pick 2. We can then use it to draft Cadman as a KPF, or split it and do some creative trading and drafting.
  12. Hutchy is a bloated bald frog. There's more chance of a princess kissing him and him turning into a human prince than there is of Jackson walking out via the preseason draft.
  13. https://www.afl.com.au/news/832462/cal-twomey-s-phantom-form-guide-top-draft-prospects-august-ranking Pick 2 should get us Cadman. North would take best mid available IMO.
  14. This scenario is very plausible so the AFL don't have to break their own rules to get a good trade done with West Coast. He's done us a favour nominating the state, not a specific club. This is how all trades should be done where go home is the reason. Free agency is when a player can nominate a specific club. If the above scenario played out, I'd prefer we don't bring Grundy in and either take 20 to draft or use it on another type of player, similar to the Langdon deal. Would be good to draft Cadman as a KPF with pick 2, then trade in a classy player for the half forward flank to upgrade the Nibbler/Spargo type role players and make us more potent up forward.
  15. If he requests to head home to WA, not Freo specifically, then straight swap for pick 2 from West Coast should be the most even and straight forward deal ever conceived. We get pick 2, use it at draft for Cadman (gun and Victorian) as a key forward to be part of our forward line for a decade to come. No go home factor. Best tall forward in the draft. West Coast get their NicNat ruck replacement with a decade of service ahead as a top level AFL ruckman with a unique skillset to play other roles if required. Former pick 3, Rising Star winner and premiership player. Win win for both clubs IMO.
  16. Getting Liam Henry as part of the Jackson trade would be a good outcome, assuming we still get first round pick as well. Henry is very talented and could be a good quick skilled forward half player for us. Get him fit and happy and who knows what he could become.
  17. He’s 195cm, not 193cm. He’s also up from 91kgs to 95kgs. He’s a perfect size for a tall forward, especially given his aggression in the air. The club said he was drafted to play forward. He’s spent a year developing as a forward, shown he’s a natural forward, and is a really impressive prospect as a forward. We are crying out for quality forwards. If the club for some reason then shifted him to defense, where we have lots of depth, it would be lunacy and [censored] poor player management. If anything both he and Petty should play forward. Zero value in switching them at this stage of their careers.
  18. Meek has been linked to us as part of the Jackson trade as steak knives. Seems we’re now pursuing Grundy instead. Logue has also been mentioned, but he apparently wants to stay in WA and is holding out for slightly more money before signing.
  19. I’m jealous watching Collingwood play such an attacking brand and going deeper into September than us despite an inferior list. After years of waiting for finals at the G again, watching us live the past two weeks was torture. We really need a gamestyle adjustment over summer or we’ll waste our window.
  20. Had a superb season and looks a future AA level key defender. His development is one of the few positives from this season.
  21. He looks a talent. Needs game time at senior level next year or he’ll head home to WA.
  22. Take whatever we can get for him and move on. He’ll never become the superstar he’s being touted as. Whether it’s mental or not, he’s been a liability at times this year. As it stands, he’s no good as a forward, no good as a midfielder, and average as a ruckman. He’s impressive for a big bloke when the ball hits the ground, but it’s a useless attribute to have as a tall player if you’re useless in the air! Two first rounders or one of Hayden Young or Caleb Serong please!
  23. Predictable and terrible second half. What a disappointing end to the season. That season can only be called a failure. Reigning champs with back to back home finals against interstate teams and we lost both. Our gameplan needs an overhaul over summer, and we need fresh personnel in the forward line. [censored] hell what a let down.
  24. Trash. Embarrassing trash. Please just get the job done!
  25. Our crowds have been phenomenal this season, but I expect a low crowd tonight for a final. Reckon we'll struggle to get 60,000 there tonight. If we win, I'd expect 90,000 against the Cats next week though!
