  1. Kent, I don't understand why you seem to be so much out for blood

He got quite a substantial punishment. Suspended for four games, $5000, shamed and named and made an unqualified public apology including what seemed like genuine remorse.

As well as being racist this behaviour was poor sportmanship and I've made my point before about poor sportsmanship on the football field so I am in no way condoning his behaviour.

You need to get this into perspective and avoid the hyperbole. There are far worse incidents than this (including those of racism) that attract little punishment or public condemnation. Leave it be, it was reasonably handled.

    My 2c worth

    Disagree.

If it went on all game as indicated he should be suspended properly.

Don't understand how he's allowed to play in the VFL

  2. What does a rookie get paid? $60,000? Maybe somebody might have a decent job and not want to throw it away for the off chance they might get a decent contract later on which sets them up?

Think it's only in the mid 30's.

JPod only accepted the offer to go on the cats rookie list after receiving assurances with regards to having continuing employment (he was already working with the cats) if it didn't work out

  3. There is a rumour about Tom Scully and it's hurting the club;if Scully had any consideration for the club he would clear up the matter right now and let the club get on with it.

How could any Melbourne Supporter or any Melbourne player have any respect for Scully for allowing this matter to drag on for so long, he's lost me he is either a money grabber or deceitful. Personally I'm sick of the club being screwed by players like Yze, Trapper, Bruce, Davey, Green etc etc and now Scully.

    :) :) :) :) :)

Thought he bleeds for the club.

Thought you were his greatest fan.....

    :) :) :) :) :)

Scully has done nothing but wait and see what happens with the new collective bargaining agreement. He'd be a fool to sign until he knows what is happening.

He's done nothing wrong, only the hysterical fans have

  4. Saw it tonight, agreed with it all. That said I know we are moving in the right drection, our ceiling is a lot higher than those around us. Things will fall into place.

Supporting this club is never dull that is for sure.

Moving sideways backwards and sideways again?

We've the talent and no system. Bailey doesn't seem to have one.

  5. Frawley started on CLoke for the first 2 goals then the switch to Rivers who has proven yet again that he is poor man on man. We were forced to push Frawley back on Cloke after Rivers got truly toweled.

I would have loved to have Garland back.

From reading what Bailey said, Rivers started on Cloke and stayed there for 5 goals.

For someone that so regularly accuses others of making up facts to suit their own arguments, you have a remarkable ability to do it yourself.

  6. I love Greeny in the forward-line as much as anyone, but why the heck was he never tried in the middle? David Neitz couldn't be blamed for getting stuck in the goal-square because he really couldn't play anywhere else. Brad Green can. When things aren't working, change them!

    Really?

Could have sworn Neitz was an All Australian at center half back. Think Carey even named him as one of his toughest opponents.

  7. Frawley started on CLoke for the first 2 goals then the switch to Rivers who has proven yet again that he is poor man on man. We were forced to push Frawley back on Cloke after Rivers got truly toweled.

I would have loved to have Garland back.

    Are you sure about that?

Coud have sworn Rivers started on Cloke

  8. Actually, talking about the opponent's form over the past 18 months says nothing about us at all.

It says a lot about us that we are 7 goals down against an opponent who are playing well below their best.

That this rank performance is acceptable and defended by some chooks beggars belief

  9. People who are saying effort is the problem have no idea. Collingwood are playing like the Premiership side they are. This is a development year and I can see development from our players . . . so that one day we can be where Collingwood is at. Poor disposal has really cost us today, though.

The filth have been poor today.

Compared to how they've played the last 18 months, they have been very average.

Says a lot about how we are playing

  10. i think the tide has turned and most supporters think deep down he is gone

    now its about compensation

Tide has only turned by simpletons who believe everything the media says.

Funny how Watts put off contract negotiations last year till after the season and no-one said squat.

  11. How many players in our side last night or for most of this season to date can we say show that sort of commitment to the cause? When was the last time we saw Jamie Bennell, Cale Morton, Nev Jetta or Ricky Petterd (to single out four) walk off the field bloodied and bruised? Where is the aggro in this mob, the willingness to belt and get belted in return. They love it when it's nice and downhill against Adelaide and the Gold Coast but go to absolute water when pressure is applied. We are undermanned, yes, but that does not excuse the palpable lack of fighting qualities in this group of players. A few are prepared to get down and dirty, often the less skillful players like MacDonald and Jones. Sylvia and Moloney are a bit inconsistent but they have a crack. Watts and a couple of the kids have shown a bit of late but that's about it.

To include Nev Jetta as an example is just plain wrong

  12. If Bailey doesn't get a new contract, list management won't be the reason.

You may not like Bailey and frankly I am not certain that he has the answers to take us the next step but don't rewrite history. He was given a mandate to completely rebuild and do whatever it took to put the required talent on the list. This he has done, step back and look at the midfield that we now possess and what that could mean in another 50-100games.

Those bemoaning what Bailey has done with the list need to outline specfic alternatives.

Your ball RGRS, what would you have done differently.

If Bailey doesn't get a new contract he will be very quickly snapped up by a leading club to play a key role.

Other than the mentioned example, I'm not unhappy with the list rebuild AFTER Baileys first year.

I would have put Bruce on the market in his first year regardless of whether we would have had to cover some of his contract first year

  13. No your wrong.

The culling started from day 1. To state that Bailey had no idea about the list in late 2007 given he was assistant coach at Port is so stunningly naive. Its laughable.

I'm not saying he had no idea, I'm saying he was wrong, but not sure why I'm bothering as comrehension obviously isn't your strong point.

He knew what the list was and believed they could make the finals.

If he was brutally honest and believed we were as bad as you make out, why was Trav the only one moved on. Actions speak louder than words. His actions said he thought he could do something with our list.

  14. I'm surprised he didn't sack half the list before he saw them play that would have been the sensible thing wouldn't it? All he had to do was go on to ology or land and get the expert opinion of posters on those sites to see what was what.

    Perhaps not.

So he hadn't seen them play?

What was he doing before he came to us, going to the netball? Stick to telling me how great a kick and committed a clubman Bruce is.

  15. You can't cull a list in 1 year, surely you know that? Going by your list management we'd have a total roster of 26 players in 2008?? Everyone on this board surely knows we started tanking in 2008. Maybe you're the only one who doesn't?

Hardwick did and now we have so many here praising him.

Cracks me up too when Brock and Bruce are held up as examples of him moving people on when they walked out on the club and him.

Meanwhile we miss rookie drafts to keep spots for Newton and Meeson. Reckon if I took a dump and told you all it was chocolate enough times, you'd start to eat it.

  16. From what I know Bailey didn't give a glowing appraisal of our list. Hence the culling that occurred and the corresponding tanking.

But I do remember feeling uncomfortable when we started this process. Something about waving the white flag and bringing kids into a culture of losing worries me...

But my personal opinion is coaches ingrain their football philosophy on their players. Roos, Malthouse, and Lyon seem to get the most out of their lists. There’s even early signs Hardwick is holding players accountable.

We have a young list and I never expected finals this year, but I did expect us to be in games for longer. What does Bailey and the players who play for him stand for? I’m not saying nothing, I just don’t know what yet.

Removing Trav isn't exactly a culling. Only call of any note he made when he took control.

Compare that with what Hardwick did at Tigerland.

Bailey planned to do well in his first year, neither he or his list were good enough

  17. Did he tell you that? That's contrary to just about every thing I've heard about how Bailey went about it, starting from his job interview.

    Serious?

Hardwick was critical of our list, shown the door. Bailey was talking them up and things went pearshaped.

  18. So it's OK if the coach plays a top player out of position dandeeman? No offence intended, but I call that dumb coaching! As for the calls to send Davey back to Casey - that does not work with top players - good coaching in modern times requires psychology and understanding, players and the game have changed!

    You are kidding aren't you?

Bailey is under the pump big time, rightly so, reckon he's gone myself.

But to blame him for Davey's performance is just pathetic. Not quite as pathetic as Davey's squib or non-existant leadership, but still pathetic

  19. Enough of the knocking - as always, the ultimate responsibility lies with the coaching staff - their role is to get the best out of all players. It is the coaching staff who need to find the solution to problems and the help for players - that's what they are paid for!

    Very soft of you Hard

  20. i disagree with this, when Bailey did get the job is when this club was at its lowest. He made the hard calls on certain players, went down a path that was much needed(youth).

When Bailey got the job, he thought we had a list to make the finals and have a crack. He failed dismally in his first year and only then did he look at the youth path.
