funny in recent times I wouldnt rate Riv that high either !! Horses for courses. we probably have a decent back forig with or without Jared.. thats just a reality given the amount of dwon time hes had in recent years. Will we ever see the great jared of old ?? or the shadow that plays most weeks with glimmers of yesterday. This isnt meant as a slight toards Riv..just calling it as I see it.. There may be moreto glean out of hale then there is ( for us ) going forward. Hence the attractiveness of maybe doing a deal sooner rather than later. Thats been our falling down over the years....leaving it too late to trade. hawthorndidnt make that mistake and strangely they managed a Premiership....food for though isnt it !

As HT alludes... al lis not lost..far from it. Like some older folks here who have followed the Mighty Dees for over 40 years I have seen lists come and lists go. Some had potential ..some were mutton dressed up as lamb ( sorry Chris..lol ) But I have to say I think Deelanders have reason to get a bit excited as to what is about to unfold over the next say 5 years. The list is/has been purged and reborn. Some more quality players to come into it still.. Some better performances are rightly expected as some players mature and find their place. This and I think the coaching assemble is getting better at what they do. Apparently West might take on a full time role next year which can only benefit us. many of the cornerstones that setout the foundations are in place as are many of the foundations themsleves. To those that are frustrated currently by poor results and underwhelming strides forward, take stock, stiffen your resolve as some of us have been witness to some seriously crappy Melbourne teams over the years with absolutely no hope asociated with them. This is not what we are seeing now. Carlton might think they are coming... but were cleverer than they..we arent going to tell anyone till its too late . The Demon stirs

Probably one of the more enlightened views regarding Dunn . Arguments aside as to his form/ability etc etc . its more where does he now fit in. With possible Forward setups including the likes of Wonna, Petterd, Sylvia, Maric, Watts, Jurrah , Bate, Martin ( or Butcher ) what position is left for Dunny ? hes only really suited to FF or CHF and commands neither position with gusto.. On the wing perhaps ...... but there are better.

I think Jared..and indeed Frosty were favs of Danihers..and dont hold quite the same charm for Bails..just my pure sentiment there and no ting to really back it up other thansome team lists sem interesting over time. I seem to think Dean will happily chnage-over, upgrade etc players with the club in mind..and no so much sentimentality as I think Neale afforded some. keep Martin down the half back.. Hale into Ruck come resting forward etc. becomes interesting doesnt it B)

ooh youre a brave man Old Problem is..and I tend to parallel youre interest in a possible trade for Riv is that fit and well and on his game he's good.. when hes not.. then hes really of littel value to anyone let alone us. I do concur that pick 18 might be of pivotal importance come trade week...its a top 20 pick after all !! If Hale is simply on the outer at Arden for some unfathomable reason ( other than form ) then he would be a top pick up..If he like a lot of players comes into the comp and burns brightly for a moment befoe a residual career of so-so-ness then it becomes iffy. Still, he might be one of those players who might enjoy a neww lease and role/responsibility at another club. Riv would probably fit in ok at North.

Not a lot of point bringing Jack back before '010

The issue with Butcher is as much as it is with Watts.. you wont get a result overnight. It wil take a couple of preseasons and a good 3-40 games before Butcher would probably come into his own. Jurrah is a whole different fish as he's simply different. So the question is...do we have enough folk or others that might come into the equation to fulfill forward roles as compared to fash, hard at it, and skilful midfielders ?? We cant have our cake and eat it twice let alone once. We ARE getting the two earliest picks in all probability and thats pretty good going. Again I go back to the argument that mids CAN kick goals ..whilst forwards cant run the centre. Which offers more value ?? Im still going with Sculy and trengove I think at this time. Butcher has questions over him as to his ability to dominate in his accustomed fashion once he starts playing with the big boys..Trengove ALREADY is playing with the big boys. Its probably a happy dilemma to be in, one all other clubs will be envious..but its stil a dilemma ...lol

Zantz cant dance..and Zomer cant kick... not abloke Id want playing FF

My essential thinking is it is time now to start construcint and instructing the team in football more akin to that which we know it. This still allows for some experimenting but not as the cause celebre as it was. Maybe we stat putting people where we want them to be.
-
yep...you just dont know what might be there this year as many teams attempt to load up with youth where ever they can ahead of the drought. Might be some pickings in the PSD..have a hunch trade week will be brim full of teams adjusting their lists though
-
Hale..warehoused ??
-
What is the nature of Dangerfileds back injury ?? is this a re-occurence of some sort of persistant injury or somethig new and arguably shortlived when attended to ?
-
why is Hale so out of favour at North. ??. once a golder Roo...now seems for them to smell of poo !!

I just cant see uws giving up the double of 1 and 2. Yes many will say there is enough talent to fill out the first round but as they say...we wont be in this position again. The PP is all but dead. You can bet AD will leave it fallow even after GC and WS are in. So we are probably the last to benefit from it. After all the turmoil, angst and other assoc crap we've endured to get these .. why give them up? For mine there are really only two scenarions 1) Scully Trengove and best avail at 18 or 2) Scully Butcher and best avail at 18 Possibly pick 18 is used in some contrived trade.. but surely common sense says we..and we alone use the first two picks.. and we choose who WE want/need.
-
would we pick up Vardy is still there to furhter the depth of rucks.. or look for an all rounder ? ( non KPP that is )
-
Without doubt some room is needed in order to aqccomodate the draftees etc. Some natural attrition to occur..and some pruning. Whom ever goes , if anyone , ought to indicate how we'll go about drafting from 2 down. Unless an absolute steal offers itself I would have to think our longer term interests are better served by using pick 2 rather than trading. I just cant see too much being offered in terms of young raw talent being allowed to leave a club prematurely.
-
yep...we've sort of overlooked what might be picked up in the PSD with all our focus on the Draft Proper. Just never know what might turn up there and we've first dibs
-
A possible call is at present: 1) Scully 2) Trengove so who or what ( position ) at 18 ? who's likely to still be there worth looking at ? Some will undoubtedly suggest using this pick in some sort of trade. . Any trading must still retain some early rather than later 2nd round pick. Going to be rather interesting
-
all in all I tend to agree.. Im simply putting it that any trading involving picks is likely re us to be at or around the 3rd round, if it happens at all. In teh same way a team saw something in Johnson when for the most part many here had him written off then so too might possibly Bell have some fans elsewhere in the league. Might go out as far as a 4th or 5th round pick in some sort of merry-goround I dont particularly rate Bell but he often has some followers in the footy world..so who knows.

I think we can safely return to a more regimental structure to our team with "out of posistio" experiemtns done as an aside and not the team game plan !! Freo will want to beat us I reckon. They have forfeited their PP and now its game on. Carlton will be looking for a percentage booster and the Sainters... well... my daughter's going to love whipping Dad's Dees. I think the players themselves will sense there are no chains upon them now and will want to show all and sundry we are a little better than portrayed.
-
probably every chance Bails will do just that. i.e leave McNamara in and give him some time acoss the HF line. We're now probably moving into 'positive' experimentation mode
-
We arent going to be chalenging next year. I think we can spend another year developing someone within our minst. We do need a more efecient midfiled right now though and this would aid the development of a forward.. Im stil lleaning toward two midfielders..Scully + "x" Butcher might be a nice pick up...but not a desperately needed one at the moment..for mine.
-
Im not sure I understand why some want to get rid of Green.. he's solid, poised and skilled. A good role model I would have thought. There probably isnt to many that we can trade. Robbo might nominate for the PSD , so be it. PJ might...ona very good day garner some interest but probably has seen any real chances whilst at Melbourne. Bell could be traded but youre really looking at some sort of 3rd round deal. Valenti might get a look in from somewhere if he was a 'required' MFC player., but he'll go for nought. If we are trading it might be as a combo of someone+3rd round for 'something'.. I do get the suspicion that trade week will be different this year.. a lot more action by middle order teams looking to bolster depth .
-
I suppose there's experimentation..and theres "experimentation" . Happy to see things tried but not for the sake of minimising results ( so to speak ) No need now to contain the soreboard. Injuries will probably still afford others more chances, just like to seem them used a littel closer to their talents.
