Has a club ever matched a Restricted Free Agency bid? I can't recall any (but it's not something I follow, either).

gw$ and crom either matched or said that they would match for cameron and dangerfield, both who wanted to go to the cats, and forced trades

Florent. Offer 4 year deal. $500k per year. Bang. He’d walk into our starting 18 and add more talent.

You’d need to offer double that to get him to leave

Kane Cornes and Sam Edmund glowing in their reviews of what they saw of Edmund. I don’t know if they have seen more than what we did in the vision but Volcano likened him to Sam Walsh, Edmund to Bailey Smith.

Kornes and Edmund rate Edmund? SEN even more self referential than I thought possible

14 out of 18/19 games is a Bazball winning total. We got out of jail in Fourth Test and cheated another Lords  result 2 series in row. I was at both.

don't be absurd; there was no cheating

Is that why The AFL have to pour millions into the GC/GWS coffers?  Crowds do matter when you talking about 10,000 each week at home and away venues involving these 2 Clubs.

Their bottom lines would be reasonable and AFL not have to prop them up after a decade.

the millions the afl pours into gc17 / gw$ is still less than the increase in broadcast rights that they have brought in

We are still seeing it at GWS / Gold Coast stadiums whereas Tassie is a AFL footy state and should be able to get 15 - 20k on a regular basis, a lot of opposition supporters would also travel to Hobart so great for tourism, we love Hobart.!!

crowds make a negligible difference to the bottom line tho

a 19th team brings no value into the competition

they will need to add a 20th quicksmart

I take your point DC but Windsor will be introduced into the team in a similar way to Riv, Jacko, Kozzi and bowser. The coaches have managed the debutante’s extremely well so far.😁

riv, jacko, kosi - rd 1 from their debut season?

they were picked from the get go from memory

I was literally at training yesterday where the focus was on bringing the ball back through the corridor, especially with run and carry in the handball drills but also in the full ground drill. Maybe that's a coaching change with Yze out and McQualter in, but I'd argue that coaching change needed to be made in mid 2022 not now. Plus you can still use the ball around the boundary and hit targets, most of Hunter's up and under kicks went to no one or the opposition. He found targets in the preseason then couldn't do it when the real stuff was happening.

i think it's often underestimated how hard it is to change a game plan mid-season

it's happened, and it's worked, and we definitely changed our entire structure and the way we set up mid-2023, but less so in 2022

when you've got time to work on tactics and roles is in the off-season, not when yr in the hunt for a premiership with the style of play that you execute, as i'd argue was the case in the last couple of years

fwiw, i thought hunter had a strong first season in red and blue, and we paid little to get him; he is a senior player in a team that is experienced and in the hunt for premierships and i think will continue to be so in 2024

The reason I see T20 cricket as an analogy is because its growth (in my opinion) has damaged cricket's value. Not because of the format nor because it's meaningless but because it's on TV on so many days. Thursday night AFL means more football on primetime FTA TV which goes against the economic theory of value found in scarcity.

    t20 has grown cricket's $$ value exponentially

the biggest stars in the game are still the three format players who excel at test level, not the franchise mercenaries

  10. those are some big tvs

i went from 40" to 55" and thought it was HUGE

mind you, half the time when i'm watching footy on the box i'm on my 27" computer screen as apparently i'm 'too loud' to be amongst company

The AFL has indicated it intends to change the process for using points for father-son and Academy picks. If I understand the speculation correctly (and it is still just speculation) the AFL is looking at making clubs use earlier round picks instead of multiple later round picks. The thinking is that the current process where a club can bundle up (say) picks 42, 45, 46 and 50 to accumulate the same points as a first round draft pick, makes a mockery of the system. Whether any changes come into effect in 2024 also remain to be seen. Nevertheless, if there's to be a change of this type AND if it comes into effect in 2024, it might make deals like this one more difficult to achieve.

it's going to come into effect in 2025, right when we need to jettison our first round pick for kalani white
