  1. boyd is the consensus pick at this stage apparently.

how that works if gws and the dees are the bottom two is anyone's guess - will gws want to add another tall to cameron and patton (and franklin)? same for the dees with clark, dawes, and hogan.

although i have heard good reports elsewhere that he's more than capable in the ruck...

crouch is as good as his brother from all reports.

  2. the fox commentary was woeful.

at one stage midway through the first term, eddie, alistair lynch and gerard healy were calling for dawes to go into the ruck. this for a bloke barely about to work up to a jog.

then, their next brilliant thought was for him to go to full back!

  3. Dominating this quarter but can't buy a goal!

And I'm sorry, but I couldn't be less impressed by Toumpas. He just doesn't have any defensive intensity whatsoever and he's so hesitant at the contest.

Why was Dawes selected? Clearly incapacitated.

  4. He also indicated that appointing the two Jacks was a mistake, and that there is no one on our list like Hodge who leads both on and off the field.

Also said that the club would no longer leak like a sieve to the media - used the example of no one knowing Neeld was being fired on Monday as the example.

    Very, very impressive interview.

  5. pretty incredible.

    to sum it up:

    - the club has been all-spin, no action for too long

    - this rebuild is genuine not spin

    - we have been a drag on the competition for a long time

    - we have no leaders in our club

    - players have a belief that they are 'wasting their careers' at the dees

    - our players need to understand that pj is pushing to undergo massive change and they need to be part of that

    - our staff are young and inexperienced (football, admin, both? it wasn't made clear)

    - if we are unable to interview prospective coaches due to their current engagement at their own clubs, so be it - it doesn't change the basic planning that needs to take place

    - pj is in regular contact with the afl but they are NOT 'driving the car'

    - the afl is now the major financier of the club

    - they will have a say on the board

    - they are backing pj's plan for the dees

pretty full on, i've gotta say.

everyone on the aunty panel basically says the dees are in good hands.

neeld has already had approaches for 2014 according to parko.

parko is still a season ticket holder for the dees, and says neil craig has a clear vision for the remainder of the season.

  6. love Nate Jones but I don't think we'll go anywhere while he's our best mid. We should be aiming to have him ranked about 4th in a heavily reinforced midfield. Within 2 years

    couldn't agree more.

would he be the best midfield in any other team in the competition? i would strong doubt it.

but he's the sort of bloke you know will die trying, and he very well might be our 'heart & soul' player.

  7. B: Terlich - Frawley - Garland
HB: Grimes - McDonald - GAP
    C: Trengove - N Jones - Howe
HF: GAP - Hogan - GAP
    F: Clark - Dawes - GAP
Foll: Gawn - GAP - Viney
    I/C: Toumpas (?) - Stretch (?) - GAP

    Sub: GAP

others: Tapscott?, Evans?, M. Jones?, Kent ?, McKenzie?, Barry?, Taggert?, Tynan?, Lovett?

we need a quick and skilled half-back flanker (think Shaw) which Toumpas very well may become, a hard nut ruck rover with breakaway pace (Thomas would be perfect, but Aish or Dunstan might fill this role), a livewire half-forward or two. a small forward, and quality depth on the bench.

whoever we pick up with our first three draft selections (presumably three inside 20 or so) should add midfield depth and class (aish, dunstan, etc.), or potentially another vital forward (e.g. boyd), although shoe-horning them in might be tricky - but you always want top quality class, so if he's best available, take him.

  8. yeah, read that with interest this morning.

not sure about the forward line, and in the paper she had dawes listed on the bench and at full forward.

i can see clark forward, gawn in the ruck, howe up on the wing, watts gone, blease gone, sylvia gone.

she also left off billy stretch and jake lovett, and as well we know, they're going to be the best father-son selections since baby judas and ol' man fletcher.

  9. bring that on.

so that's three midfielders - two inside, one outside - from our 80s forefathers.

geelong had, what, a key forward, a key back, and a couple of mids?

how old are the ox's kids?

such a shame lyon's boys don't show this sort of talent!

  10. an egm would make sense. i guess the key is having an understanding of what has been presented to the afl.

as members we deserve to know what that is.

at the moment, has there been any detail of the plan released?

    same goes for jeff.

words are fine, but do they have any substance?

all we've got at this point is him saying he 'wants the job' without any indication as to what he would intend to put in place.

governance is all i can recall.

    and...?

  11. initially i was on the whole 'he's doing this for himself' trip.

my 'thources' have, like caro's, indicated that there's no one who has gone to him as a solution to be the next president of the mfc. so i'm hesitant to believe him.

but i'm prepared to wait and see what his purported ticket is.

if it doesn't materialise by tuesday - late on monday on footy classified, perhaps? - as promised then i think i'll move back into this being all about jeff mode.
