  5. Sad for those with dual loyalties. The St. Kilda side of things has been confirmed - AFL Victoria Chief Executive Officer Peter Schwab today confirmed that AFL Victoria has sanctioned an alignment agreement from 2009 between the Sandringham Football Club and the St Kilda Football Club for the next five years. This agreement has been made taking into consideration a number of elements including Melbourne’s proposed move to Casey Fields. Schwab said the alignment change was a strategic move for the future growth and success of the VFL and the game generally. “The VFL has been evolving since its major restructure at the end of 1999,” Schwab said. “The VFL’s strong foundation has made it possible for changes in alignment to take place. “These are not spur of the moment decisions. They are well-thought through strategies for the betterment of both the VFL and AFL clubs and Victorian football generally.” As a result of this move by Sandringham, Melbourne will now need to determine where their position in the VFL lies, be it stand alone or a new alignment with one of the now four stand-alone VFL clubs; Tasmania, Casey Scorpions, Port Melbourne and Frankston.
  6. Sandringham started slowly today against the Carlton aligned Bullants but with Nick Sautner in the goals again, they drew away in the second quarter and ran out easy winners by 45 points. 8. Sandringham's performance against the Tassie Devils on their own patch was fantastic. I couldn't make it down myself but it's obvious that a 25 goal victory is something to behold. The Zebras had only 9 MFC listed players with the club taking all three emergencies over to Adelaide for the game against the Crows. The Demons in the side were - Lynden Dunn Ben Holland Chris Johnson Addam Maric Stefan Martin John Meesen Jake Spencer Matthew Whelan Adem Yze As far as the animosity in some quarters towards Nick Sautner, it defies logic. Sandringham is a club in its own right and anyone who can finish up with 10.6 from 18 shots and 12 marks deserves his spot at full forward (even if there were a few academy award performances thrown in during the game).

  10. I agree with those sentiments - a disappointing day for the club and a very lacklustre performance from the seniors who were outclassed by the home side. The Zebras lost it in the first quarter when they couldn't handle the breeze and were outscored even though they were kicking to what should have been the scoring end. After conceding three early goals in the second term Sandy fought back but a goal from a free on the siren was costly. In the third quarter the Zebs came at Willi again and got to within a goal before a rally of three late goals put them back in control. The Seagulls were great in the last quarter and ended up winning by 64 points after kicking 10 of the last 11 goals of the game. PJ was very good and Simon Buckley flashed in out of the game with some nice passages of play. Matty Whelan was off early (also not sure of the injury) and Adem Yze did not play. 11. It's actually Chris Waller, he isn't fat and to the best of my knowledge doesn't perform jazz. Waller is a utility from Beaumaris who trained pre season with Richmond. He made his senior debut for Sandy in the televised game v Bendigo Bombers and impressed with two goals. McNamara and Zomer are developing well in the reserves but are still a fair way off senior selection with the Zebras and probably will not get many senior games unless injuries intervene. Likewise Weetra who seem to be a fixture in the reserves now after a promising pre season and a couple of early games with Melbourne. The reserves team is now available:- WILLIAMSTOWN v SANDRINGHAM RESERVES Sunday 11th May Burbank Oval at 11:10 AM FREE Admission to all spectators. 13. It's Williamstown's home ground and one of the first parts of Melbourne that was setttled in the 1830's.
  14. In case anybody's wondering, there is no Sandringham game this week as the Zebras have a bye in the split round. Next week they take on Williamstown (Sunday, 11 May) at Point Gellibrand in a big clash and there will be free admission for all spectators.

  19. This was one of Sandy's poorest games for a long time. Frankston won becasuse of its intensity, desire for the ball and willingness to play as a team. There were 12 AFL listed players in the Sandringham team while the visitors were a no name team that was willing to put in and get the hard ball. Very few players put their hands up to play against Carlton. Maric and Moloney were the better of the Demons with a nice performance by Jake Spencer especially after Stef Martin went off injured early in the game. Matthew Bate played in the reserves and had 32 possessions including 14 in the first quarter in a 14 goal winning team.
  20. Watch out for Stuart Cleeve if he happens to get a run in the Zebra seniors. He was very impressive in the twos last week.
  21. He might mean well but despite the name, I want to make it clear that we are unrelated. Sorry, I mean we is unrelated.
