Farewell Sam Weideman
If Reddit is anything to go by for these social media comments then it sounds like there's been spears from all directions for the young man. At this point I couldn't give a rip about his football ability or who we took him ahead of in the draft, this kind of garbage is not on and mentally crippling for any young man. I just hope he's ok.

I was down that end of the ground and my instant thought was that May used too much force in his action. I did think Daniher got some good orange juice out of it and it could have been partially in the side but when you extend the arms that far and quick you're inviting trouble. I hear a lot of people say they want consistency and I would love nothing more myself but the arguments for consistency in umpiring are almost always taking 1 single decision and comparing with another single decision during the course a game. We have to accept the fact that there are varying degrees of umpiring consistency and that near enough is probably going to have to be good enough.

Everyone is human. I never like to leave early but halfway through I was finding the cold unbearable, probably needed another layer but it was exceeding my disappointment and the last time I caught a cold at the G was last year and not pleasant. Thankfully I stayed but I can't tell if the jelly legs I had at the siren were from all the emotion or just frozen numb legs.

Colby McKercher
I'd have him, even if only for 5 years. Still better longevity value than Dogga.

The backline needs a breather occasionally. Repeat entries and more time in there is going to wear them down quicker and this will lead to more zone breakdowns. Gawn as sole ruck was great in this game and it's been great click bait but we still need a presence other than Max on wing who can save us with a mark every now and then because I'm pretty certain we will require him up forward again eventually.

We'll see how it goes, it won't be the same way for the rest of the season.

Why on earth is the Hipwood non-mark being discussed as a controversial moment? It hit Lever in the chest and if he didn't think we could have marked it he would have gone the punch. In my view Lever marked it then Hipwood ripped it out, it was not even a 50-50 with Lever in front. Hipwood tried to con the umpire and it's understandable in that moment.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
I waited for today to share any real thoughts on how this game went down and after one full replay and two 4th quarter replays and I still can't quite figure out how the we did it but we did. That first 10 minutes was the best football we've played this year. We led the clearance count 6-0 and were torching contested but the Lions found a way back and we were in for a big game. It seemed like it was getting out of hand and for the life of me I don't know how we came back in that last quarter, but I had long made peace with the fact that we were going to be losing this game. The lead kept reducing and when Viney kicked that beauty and we entered the forward line again, I just felt it was going to happen. Feel so good for Melk, I haven definitely been a critic and I'm not saying he's the answer up forward every week but this game suited him and he showed a physical side early that was really helpful. Good on you Melk! What? Paywall? For the rest of layzie's post you will need to be subscriber. $6 a week just 2 cups of coffee...

PODCAST: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
@binmantotally nailed this in the pre game thread saying it would be high scoring and that we would come out and play fast. Big thankyou to @Demonlandfor taking the Glen Waverely line on Fri night as an omen! My question this week is that we are obviously missing Oliver but it can be hard to explain why considering contested ball and clearances has still been really good last few weeks. Would like to hear from the guys what they think the main thing we are missing in Oliver's absence. Is it the quick hands out of the contest to clear congestion? Is it the fact that it would allow Petracca to play more forward? Thoughts?

Why completely ignore a very good segment of the draft market just because they might want to go home in 5 years?
