Only since the interchange bench was Bastardised...
-
I only saw highlights But i heard Fagan’s presser. He is giving players a chance to play with some natural flare. I think this is Goodwin’s biggest problem. He is all structure and gameplan it is way too rigid, particularly on our home ground
-
Same with last night Nought were a disgrace i turned it off at halftime. It is boring and unwatchable and they have a decent key Forward
-
Yes Goodwin needs to put some flare back into the team. At the moment it is ALL Structural He needs a balance between structure and flare The great Coaches understood this (most of the time)
-
Starting positions are what was played for 100 years Man on Man That is Australian Rules
-
I don’t like starting and ending positions It’s netball Positional football can be achieved again if the Bench is used to replace injured players. that was its use before the mid 90’s

GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Richmond
Sir Why You Little replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Goodwin has to put it all on the line today. A win today puts us in the pack if we play like we have been (Dysfunctional Forward Line) then i think we will know that Goody can only coach one way The Club needs a win today. -
Yes exactly, how can it be officiated, without looking like Gridiron changing players. and what happens if the ball stops just before the 50 m arc, do the forwards and defenders just stand there waiting? Zones cannot work, we need players to still have freedom, if needed
-
The congregation around the ball all began after the interchange bench was changed completely. The midfielders will still run around i want to see the Centre Half Forward be important again the key position won’t run everywhere, but they still are allowed to i don’t like zones because it’s then Netball
-
Yes i know that. But if players have to “rest” on the field because the cannot be rotated, they are not going to follow the ball as much. They will stay in position, as they did for 100 years before rotations were allowed
-
Fatigue will dictate that. But only if the rotations are limited drastically
-
Really! Grundy got 2 votes That is a joke
-
Yes. But winning should still be number 1 Teams may have played in pouring rain and won, but are still penalized not right So bonus points do bother me. It all comes back to the interchange bench that is where players are re energized. Put the brakes on there
-
I don’t like Bonus points, (teams could make finals with less wins) But it could be the only way Coaches will allow big Scores again I went to the 1972 GF as a 9 year old Fantastic High Scoring Game Those memories stay with you
-
It all started when Kevin Sheedy had the interchange bench changed in the mid 90’s. that is the root cause. Other rule changes bought in since then have added to the problem
-
Listen to Ratten Press Conference Straight down the line “The team practised things during the week and i saw them executed tonight” Where is that connection Goody?
-
Marvellous isn’t it Maybe we should hire a Coach that understands Structure and game plans
-
Ratten could have been a bargain years ago... But we don’t hire experienced Coaches, unless we are on life support
-
Great. Another goal to Dean Kent Good Luck to him but....
-
Quick direct kicking into the Forward Line Look what happens Simon....
