What if he knew our offer. Wasn't happy. Got a call from the Pies wanting to know where he was at. Met them to see what they would offer to get a guage on what he could expect from other clubs. Then went and met Roos to tell him of offer and what Melbourne could do, maybe even being prepared to take less to stay with us. Then Roos says I am not budging on offer do what you like. What if our offer was $100000 for one year and Pies was $400000 for 3 years.

I agree but if they know we will take him with our second pick, the risk is gone. Port and even the Crows would probably cop him with their first pick and not be upset at paying a bit too much.

Would pick 2 get you O'Rourke, Jaksch and Frost from GWS if you threw in say Blease, who is a good mate of the $7m man and/or a later pick. Pick 2 would get them Petracca if Saints pass on him. None of the GWS guys I named is a star but all could have good careers with us. Problem could be if Saints took Petracca then GWS could take Brayshaw and 2 best mids are gone. Trading for pick 3 if we get it, could solve that problem if we promised not to take Petracca. Other possibility is if we get a PP even say at about 20 we could trade for O'Rourke and Frost and get a lower pick back. That would leave higher picks to trade 1 and use the other in draft.

Those that think MC should play for us, no matter what we offer him, are living in dreamland. I would be pretty certain that not one Demonland poster including myself, know exactly what the settlement was. Given that scenario, how can you logically expect him to play for us at whatever we offer him. Yes he does owe us for our help in his situation and if nothing else, he has said through his Manager that he would want to be sure we were compensated IF he left. I am sure everyone would agree if our offer was $1000 for season 2015 he would have every right to refuse that and look elsewhere. So then the question becomes how much is not enough? Since none of us know what he got in the settlement or what we offered for 2015 I think people should stop abusing MC and let the whole thing go to its conclusion. Think of it as if he was your brother and not your big hope to save this club.
