  1. Nathan Jones, whilst he loves a tweet or two, is the epiteme of a work engine, in which the leading cylinder is Maloney. Now abviously (due to the name), there may be some bias here, but he has done some fantastic work this year, and like all players has not played 100% in some games. Hes not to be dropped.

    Indeed - Jones stays IMO.

Two big wins ? They were pathetic in the second half last week and are far from being immune to change.

Trengove is a walk up start in this side.

This is the harsh reality. Trenners should be in, as should Moloney if fit.

I'm one for Jurrah to have a spell in the magoos to regain some spark/confidence, and probably Bennell, tough call - glad it 'aint my job.

Not sure what is happening with Bate? Also hope Garland pulls up OK

  2. After what i saw from the legends game the other night, if Pickett was in the photo, thats all you would have seen. boy has he been in a good paddock!!!

Yeah but still got the attitude - 60m torp goal off one step. Get outta my way....bang! gotta love it.

  3. would like to see how many are mcc members. . .

Interesting, and also of interest would be how many attendees have been non mfc members.

On that very note how dif it might have been had we played Ess at that 'other' place ? So much better in so many ways at the G :)

So true. But let's not speak of that s$%thole

  4. Getting in quickly with long kicks from Moloney and Jones would create uncertainty. While the backman watches JR, rivers eyes never leave the football and his superior aerial judgement leads to marks inside fifty. I agree that he would be no good on the lead, but one out or floating across the pack could be his go! It is certainly worth giving him the opportunity.

I agree he'd be a dangerous floating player up forward. Furthermore, was in top 5 for tackles for dees last year, so good forward pressure.

Could never say he isn't hard at the ball.

He kicked 2 in QB game 2006 - 4 for the season, not overly shabby for a backman.

  5. Pay your regards to Twitter updates!!! It seems that the tweet (is that what they're called) the weekend after Ricks injury was THE ONLY reliable source.

Remember this is also about Garland and Riv!! Great work by the club to have signed up the four key defenders of the last month, Chip, Col, Riv and Ricky.....

To all the Rivers haters...you state he isn't in the best 22? He has missed how many games so far? I would suggest that in the coaches eyes he is well and truly entrenched in the best 22 currently. I agree with some sentiments that he is struggling in some area's currently but he is a valuable asset for our club. Not sure that he would command a high draft pick but the majority of clubs would come for him if let go.

He deserves a 2 year contract with this club.

Well done MFC and well done Riv, Col, Ricky and Chip!!

Yep, I struggle with some of the Riv bashing going around here - each to their own (enter the bashers), but for mine, and seemingly the coach, Riv is in.

  6. Well, looks like the GC17 will have to look elsewhere for talent.

I believe the following are out of contract:

    Bail

    Bartram

    Cheney

    Bate

    Watts

    Blease

    Miller

    Maric

    Dunn

    Bruce

    Bell

    PJ

    Martin

    Newton*

    Meesen*

    Hughes*

    Healey*

    Spencer*

Spencer will be offered a contract on the seniors, leaving us with a clean slate for the rookie list. The dees will look to re-up Blease, Maric, Dunn, Watts, Batram, Bail and Bruce. I think Cheney might be asked to to a "Jordie" and play on the rookie list next season. This may also be the path for Maric who has much to prove.

I have it on good authority that they are all going to the GC

  7. its a mental thing. Everyone can be physically ready to go out and play a game of footy, but its another thing to be mentally ready to go at the contest, to gut run, to push back and help team mates.

And another thing again to have this readiness "collectively"

  8. "For mine if we can get that -75 closer to 0 over the rest of the year we'll see more wins than losses. In wins this year we're +7 in the first 10 minutes. "

    Agree Titan.

Also, between the coll draw and bulldogs game, our combined loosing margin was 4 points. Our combined 1st quarter loss was -26 points, so you could argue 2 games lost in the first qtr.

Interestingly, in the other close one against the filth, we won the first qtr by 15 points...

  9. If someone here has regular contact with Schwabby , would they please let him know about this proposal.

He is a Demonland member, you can look him up and PM him if no-one has a more direct contact. Good luck.

  10. I look forward watching the execution of the "game plan" continue to develop, along with the kids.

Would love to see more forward "structure" becoming apparent, particularly with the imminent return of JURRAH and hopefully Aussie & Watts with some good form.

Ideally (edit: realistically?), 3-4 more wins, and two of those against the Bombers and Hawks.

  11. Oh really.

Well, whenever we've had a great start we've gone on to be competitive throughout the rest of the game. (Collingwood, Bulldogs, Brisbane, Richmond) But the other times? It's taken us until the second half to get to our best, and by that time we're just trying to catch up. Something needs to be said to the players about this D:

    From Nathan Jones' twitter:

"Boys will be training hard all week to rectify the start and intensity, big week with the QB clash Monday vs the pies hope ur all excited!!"

"Good day at the club, the match review meeting resulted in us cementing the importance of a good start to games"

  12. Absolutely 100% spot on.

Davey has been playing for a long time, and has been getting close attention for years, and yet he still reacts like a 10 year old when somebody niggles him.

His behaviour yesterday was honestly pathetic for someone with his level of experience and someone who is in the leadership group. I've seen him do it in finals, and I've seen him do it during H&A matches.

Bailey dragged him numerous times yesterday and rightfully so. I'd consider dropping him this week for disciplinary reasons, if we weren't playing such a big important game. He set the worst example of anyone out on the field yesterday.

I agree he crumbles under a heavy tag. I think the coaching staff were trying to assist in breaking the tag by rotating him off the bench, more so than dragging him. I would want him out there this week.
