  1. You'll find that the vast majority of posters here argue with other posters. It's footy opinion vs footy opinion... and to be fair, you're selling some people on here short. The better fans here may not be clever enough to run a footy department, but they have some incredible historical information at hand that makes the game more interesting and colourful to view.

And I'm pretty sure you'll find nobody's criticised Cam.

As for Bailey, some of us pay for our memberships and it's our duty to maintain an interest, critical or otherwise, in the goings-on at the club. 'Land gives us an opportunity... I for one am grateful for that.

This thread may have been a bad one, but there' plenty of good ones to get stuck into.

What's more, I would think Cam would encourage demonland. Otherwise, why post?

    ???????????? WTF?!!

    Touché

  2. We were pathetic. Improvement? Potential? Skills ? Desparation?? Playing in front???? Finals????? Finals in foreseeable future?????????

I'm going away for the long weekend.

3rd Qtr showed lots of potential.

I never expected finals this year and anyone who did was really getting a bit ahead of themselves.

Finals in the foreseeable future - definitely; as sure as these kids will grow into men.

I didn't want to post to this effect before the game, but the general expectation amongst the threads seemed to be that MFC would win this game.

I tried not to be too pessimistic but, after all, CFC should be ahead of us.

AS much as today sucked, our future is no less bright IMO.

  3. Not a great effort by any means. But in all honesty we shouldn't be beating the blues. If the tables were reversed, we would expect to put them away comfortably, which is what they did.

People need to lower their expectations. Sure we had a good start to the year with a couple of narrow defeats, but we should not be disgusted by a 50pt loss to a team with a good chance at a top 4 finish.

    Agree wholeheartedly.

Pluses: Grimes & Gysberts. Green great & Morton starting to show some form.

Oh and Syliva was awesome in the ruck.... again.

  4. I am very hopeful for Jack's future, I think I am being realistic when I say he is years away from having a real impact.

He needs to grow into his body. He needs to grow up (speculative)

In the interim, I think he needs spells for Casey, for confidence and motivation, however who replaces him?

Oh and was he any worse than Miller today?

BTW, i think there may be a thread on this already!

  5. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/greg-inglis-in-talks-with-bombers/story-e6frf9jf-1225875720478

Inglis is talking to the Bombers now. Wants to stay in Melbourne and isn't sure the Storm will be able to afford him next year.

How will it work for an existing club? Will they get to put part of his salary outside the cap?

I wouldn't be surprised if there where rule changes made to encourage the richer clubs to start poaching NRL players.

    Also talking to NFL.

    Readme

Say what you want, I'd have him as a rookie in a heartbeat.

  6. Rubbish.

Everyone supports Rugby League up here, and only talk about the AFL if the Lions are going well.

There are pockets of AFL support, but I've found them to be mostly Carlton/Collingwood fans.

I have spent a LOT of time in Cairns - they have pretty much zero appreciation for "Gayfl/ Arial Ping Pong".

  7. Kreuzer/Jacobs both 200cm, O'hAilpin 199cm, Waite 194cm.

    Frawley 193cm, Rivers 192cm, Garland 191cm, Bruce 190cm.

It's not just the risk of two key defenders being outmarked by someone significantly taller (and just as fast), it's also stopping them getting the ball to ground to the advantage of small forwards & midfielders. And it's not easy to run off Kreuzer or O'hAilpin either.

It's taking a big risk IMO.

I hear you - this game will be a big challenge. What is the big risk you refer to though, playing Warnock over Rivers? Aren't they the same height? Rivers has more versatility IMO.

  8. Not at all.

A midfield is made up of players playing specific roles within the midfield mix. McLeans role is to win the contested ball and to create play by feeding the ball out to better runners and users of the ball like Judd, Murphy and Gibbs. I am not sure its the perfect role for McLean and I will watching with interest as to whether he succeeds or not over the course of the time at the Blues.

Likewise, and equally compelling will be the Jamar/Kruezer contest

  9. Fair enough. THere are other posters Jack that think Gysberts should seriously be on him.

I would certainly be looking to Jones and Moloney to be at him and make his day hard and unfriendly.

He is their firs dibs supply to their stars and we need to cut him down big time.

You make him sound like a one man midfield Rhino....

  10. Why?

How about the Club actually do match ups based on the best player for the role rather than shoddy self seving one up manship that at best suits supporters who are still smarting over McLean leaving?

Honestly Gysberts is in his 2nd game. McLean will be in and under packs looking for the first possession and handball out. Why wouldnt we be looking at Beamer, McKenzie or Jones for that? I am sure the Club will be more sensible in their approach here.

Fair enough RR. In reality any match ups will change with the dynamics on the day.

IMO there are plenty of other Carlscum midfielders that will need consideration before the likes of Mclean. Personally, I rate Gysberts and I would enjoy seeing him have a crack on Mclean and not out of spite. I don't personally think that's overly self serving or senseless.

  11. Someone said that no team have ever won the week after playing in Darwin. Anyone know if this is true?

The Bulldogs won the following game in 2008 & 2009 but this was over the split round on both occasions, so they had a week off in between.

The last team to do it the following week was Port adelaide in Round 21 2004 - their premiership year I believe.

    (from wiki)

Edit: I didn't go any further back than 2004 so there may/may not be more.

  12. And there's even more pressure on these two to succeed at AFL level. Players who, admittedly, do it tougher coming through the draft, have little to no pressure unless they're a top draft pick. These two are going to be scrutinised so heavily, and they'll be expected to lead their teams from the get go. Another reason why the salary they're getting isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

Another key difference regarding the perceived pressure these code hoppers will feel vs the draftees, is the former can go back to their native code and more or less pick up where they left off. (as they have been known to do)
