  1. An interesting thought about attendance to games is for AFL men’s there’s AFL membership of MCC membership where there would be many ‘neutral’ supporters going as there membership allows or to get worth out if it. I wonder if there is worth in combining the Melbourne FC membership to include the W team with maybe a small increase in cost. We are one club after all. And finally, there’s a need for education to the non-believers around the realities of the W game being a lot shorter in time and only 16 on the field. Of course there’s lower scores, of course there is a fatigue with a need to cover more ground, and for some ridiculous reason they are officiated differently. So whilst the marking is now the same level and kicking is getting to the same level distance wise, they are inherently different games, that should not be judged with the same lense.
  2. It was a really gritty effort by the girls with a surprising tactical change in method. Credit to North they took their moments, and our girls tried hard to hold on but ran out of gas. Some dodgy knees into our girls on the ground by North was stinky though our girls stood up to that and didn’t take a backward step. Even a sooky shove from Squibby Burch didn’t impact Zanker. The W game didn’t have the drive of recent years with promotion lacking. It is an entertaining game to watch and deserves more of a following. In past years there was more of a connection with the supporters and a closeness, but now they cordon off such a small section or usher the girls off the ground so quickly. Please just align the season with the VFL to give those not playing a chance or provide extra volume to the season. Human interaction and following is a funny psychology, in that controversy and negativity get the clicks and eyes. The W game is just too damn wholesome with great people but yet a controversial or a tv show or 6 picking the eyes out of it. I hope Mick S says, but can understand his desire to see something new or he’s the type that would leave to give Shae Sloane the opportunity. He was I believe still living in Anglesea, that is a huge commitment. I’d like Zanker to stay. She is a quality player, but would like some fresh faces too if her level. Hopefully Purcell gets back as poor Hanksy had a human back pack for the last month of games. I’d keep Paxy over Bannan, they still offer a high level, but that said, tthe future is Beasley, Gall, Pisano and the next draft crop. Let’s get around all of our Dees in twenty six!
  3. Wow what a win, spoony one end heater in the middle and Gillard in the defence. Oh my Kate Hore! So well deserved. F you umpires
  4. It’s just really sad how a game can be so influenced by a call or a non call by an umpire. 4 goals direct from a free kicks is something else. I feel for the girls!
  5. Moby “Extreme ways” Oh baby, oh baby then it fell apart Oh baby oh baby Like it always does! 🫣
  6. What ever the rules are around holding the ball, incorrect disposal have become a hot mess. It’s funny because what it has created is this soccer match the blues are playing. Better for no one to tackle or take possession of the ball.
  7. I understand that Max is the man that is most wanted from the media and he himself possibly sees the benefit for a career post football, however I hope that with this clean slate comes new voices and perspectives. Max is very well versed and as people have said above a politically astute talker, but getting a little tiresome for me. I’m hopeful a new group of leaders step up and take the media load that Max has had to shoulder for the best part of 3 years.
  8. There’s going to be a few players needing to lift next week, Bannon the most by far, but I feLt Taylah Harris isn’t quite over her rib injury(?) and it would be nice to see Gall burger take a mark or follow up after a dropped one. Id like the team to control some games with short kicks to the free player rather the long to a tall or hack kick forward as only option. Goldrick back a welcome boost. Molly O a potential fresh return too. Grace Beasley looks very strong, could be a dark horse. Maybe play Bannons position. Finally the umpiring across all games is making games really hard to watch. That incorrect disposal has been thrown out is so frustrating, and the amount of players being held before taking possession resulting in a scrum for the next minute of play til the ball gets literally thrown out is a joke. Our girls are good tacklers but never rewarded. Almost better not to tackle just corral otherwise you’re out of the play.
  9. Even better is the race to 100 lives on for another week!
  10. Brisbane just better at rugby than the dees, with our girls caught up tackling they had numbers on the outside once the drop or throw inevitably came out of the scrum, with the umpire just waiting for it to come out. It’s lucky they were allowed to throw forward.
  11. Umpires decide to start blowing the whistle and all momentum shifts. Kate Hore robbed. Mavo clutch!
  12. Wowee what a hot contested start. I wish there was a rule for incorrect disposal…….. Somewhat lucky in defence but Gillard cool and calm, hope some can rub off on Radar. Like Bannon up the ground getting involved. Lizy to clean up her kicks a little and we will get it past half way.
  13. This is what I don’t understand. Where are the get out clauses or behaviour clauses that allows a contract to be broken. If any of us in our working life had acted like Clarry we would be out on our [censored]. It bemuses me that being a good player provides an immunity forever. People froth the grubbiest people because they are good footballers.
  14. Something that resonated with me that was in the presser “Take what the game gives them” this to me reflects what both programs male and female have struggled with and not doing enough of. The licence to play with freedom, yes through structure. This excites me.
  15. No Kate no Melbourne. Amazing footballer. Colvin much better after a disappointing first half . Shelley Heath a down day. Hanks good but like the team trained to be too cute. The team cannot afford Bannon going missing for weeks every year. The season is just not long enough. Offered nothing today. Unfortunately if Banno and Zanker lose confidence it’s day over for them. Maevo good and tried hard to stop some rot. This gameplan is getting found out. Looks beautiful when it’s on, but pressure the receiver and it keeps breaking down. It’s not a finals brand in my mind. Doesn’t help when the first touch form is down from key players. Too cute, too much reliance on perfection.
  16. Every junior in a Geelong football league gets a free Cats Membership. I assume this happens across all teams but certainly inflates the numbers. I don’t think the drop off in our numbers is totally a reflection on the teams playing style. Even if you don’t believe the media, there was a barrage of negative about the club throughout last year and the off season. A top 5 player wanted to leave, another in some sort of breakdown, a board and executive in court battles or just general infighting. The list goes on. It certainly was a hard time to be a proud Demon. Follow that up with a poor win loss record, an interim leadership and what seems to be nothing implemented from a review and you get a drop off. And lastly unless you’re in the mcc or coterie who knows what’s happening around the club or where it’s going.
  17. Billing’s may have just been forgotten from the communication graphic. It can happen sometimes 😂
  18. This is shockingly dumb football by Casey. And why is K Brown remaining in the midfield against a much stronger opponent.
  19. Floppers gonna flop! 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
  20. Really enjoyed the game of Fitzy today. A reward for effort with a mid field role and she took it with both hands. The young ones look like 50 game players, Rigoni, Molly O, Maggie M, Gall burger. Solid performances by Colvin and Campbell (her best game) set up an another good win. Is there a wind turbine out there? Perfect in my back yard yet blowing a gale down there.
  21. Lost the plot! No no no no. Umpiring is a farce.
  22. A clubs success is the sum of all parts. In a scale between 1-10 the majority of areas needs to be at 8. Areas are but not limited to, game plan, skills, personal (playing - administrating) fitness physically, mentally, recovery, injury, governance, communication, media, Most arguments on this forum are right, based acutely on a part. A coach is only a part of the sum, like Selwyn is now, Richardson, Guerra, Smith. Hopefully each part starts to get stronger and away we go!
  23. I would imagine it will be very difficult for Richmond players to recover from last week’s trip to Darwin. The thing about our last weeks game, whilst I wanted a slight adjustment in gameplan for the weather, it does show it is instilled in the group with some awesome kicks into the centre and fast forward hand passes. That will cut a team up if under done. I hope Heater is playing, and is love to see Banno up the ground getting involved and adding speed.
  24. Vic park was easy to get too, and good spaces to watch footy even in the wet. It could be developed into a marquee AFLW ground but not having a club or alignment might impact funding. Thats where Ikon park could work better. I don’t believe Caulfield could be set up for games as no ability to install covered stands. It would be ideal to play and train at your home ground though.
  25. Dillon was there talking to Che Guerra for most of the match. Probably making personally delivering the brown paper bag. Paxy was good but sloppy, Hanks needs her purcell back, and the fast handball game needed to be put aside for a more direct territory game. Great to see Riggors play, and Wotherspoon was strong across half back. Wish Zanks could just let negative go, and Bannon be more consistent. Lizy solid again as was Maevo. Good win!
