  1. Didn't know both games were being broadcast on radio or that one of our own was involved with 3SER. My only problem with the station was that last time I tried to tune in on my el cheapo Dick Smith walkperson, all I could hear was this bloke talking in Greek. Do you have interpreters or was I on the wrong waveband?
  2. THE PERFECT FLOWER ARRANGMENT I'm not so sure about the title to this article but it brings back some great memories of the day we beat the Bulldogs to make the finals for the first time in over two decades. Even after we'd won the game, we were no certainties and had to rely on hawthorn beating Geelong. I remember listening to that game on the radio in the crowd and throwing my young son over the fence when the siren went and we'd made it at last. Never did find out what happened to that boy!
  3. The cover of the Herald Sun Weekend Sport section and a story inside celebrate the retiremetn of Brisbane's Chris Johnson as "The Last Lion". This is not to denigrate Chris Johnson's career in football but several hours after he walks off the Gabba tonight, there will be one remaining former Lion still going around at the MCG - Daniel Ward whose career started off at Fitzroy when he was on their supplementary list in the Lions' last year. That makes Wardy the real last Lion. Irrespective of whether he soldiers on in 2008, he deserves the title - his efforts for the club have been lionhearted and he has made the most of his abilities in his decade in football at the highest level.
  4. Carlton is set to land the first big fish in off season player movements - BIG DEFECTION TO CARLTON SET TO ROCK THE AFL
  5. Congratulations JCash (love your initials) and let's hope that we have a double celebration one month after her fist birthday and many, many mor to come.
  6. The Zebras aren't on TV today but the next best thing after actually turning up to support the boys in person is to listen to the game on 3XX Radio 1611. The station is also looking out for callers - "3XX 1611 AM - VFL FOOTY CALLERS WANTED We have vacancies in the Saturday Call Team for the remainder of this season, and are looking to further develop our call teams for 2008. If you have an interest and call a game of footy for radio, AND are available on SATURDAYS, please let us know by calling 9532 1611 or email to [email protected]" I'd apply for the gig myself but I don't have a clue about VFL opposition players. However, if 3XX wants some real educated vox pop comments from the punters in the crowd then we're usually situated on or next to the gravel just under the pisspots (I mean that very respectfully BTW) on the social club stand balcony. The folks at 3XX do a good job and they even gave Demonland an on air plug last time they covered us so listen out and please report here as the game unfolds.

  8. Bailey comes direct from Port Adelaide which probably made more changes to its list at the end of 2006 than any other club. Interesting!
  9. If he did, he would be assured of coming into 2008 with a 100% record .
  10. The choir of hard knocks is belting out the club song. We've got the game in the bag on Sunday!
  11. Will he be in the coaches box on Sunday if he gets the gig?
  12. Aren't we presuming a little much here i.e. that we lose to Carlton and retain the picks. There are bookies out there who are willing to risk serious money against this eventuality.
  13. I'll make it easy for you. In order for my lead to be halved, the people in equal second place will need to come up with results that would give us the wooden spoon!
  14. I don't practice much in the criminal law field these days but my recollection of the law is that the person who obtained them doesn't even have to know for sure that the records were stolen. It would be sufficient if he/she reasonably suspected that they were stolen or unlawfully obtained. However, the authorities might decide it's all to hard a case to prove. Redleg might be able to add some light with his vast knowledge of crime and the criminal mind?
  15. Andrew Demetriou said tanking doesn't happen but apparently (according to a poster on the Blues' supporter site - Tanking Carlton) in "the Herald Sun tomorrow, Kouta is quoted as saying that he believes we'd be better off losing against Melbourne." Kouta should be careful. He's still a registered AFL player and the powers that be could slap him with a please explain on the grounds that he's bringing the game into disrepute.
  16. Exactly and this thread is locked until the Supreme Court injunction is lifted.
  17. Please don't give the selectors any suggestions or ideas. They might take them up.

  19. It's not even worth speculating on the team until we know who's avalable for Melbourne v Carlton. There might be very few Demons in the Sandy team at all unless we have a few coming back from injury.
  20. This is what the AFL site is saying - COURT ACTION OVER AFL STORY and in the circumstances we'll go into lockdown until it's safe to open up again. For those who don't know the name of the club it's not Melbourne and we definitely won't merge this topic with any other. Edit: The following additional newspaper stories hve been published this morning - DRUG SHOCKS TOP MELBOURNE CLUB - DRUGS CLAIM ROCKS AFL It appears that the Supreme Court injunction was obtained on behalf of the doctor treating the players and it prevents publication of the players' names and the club they represent. In the circumstances we will remain in lockdown on the subject. If you value the facilities that your club's supporter websites provide I suggest that, for the time being you refrain from commenting on this subject on Demonland or Demonology.
  21. Note however that six of the eight players named on the bench for Sandy tomorrow have also been named in the reserves. That leaves room for at least two of those players to remain in the seniors and hopefully they will be Weetra and Hayes. Incidentally, according to the Hobart Mercury Sandringham's opponent in next week's qualifying final Williamstown, will by contrast play 15 Collingwood-listed players (including Brodie Holland, Rhyce Shaw, Paul Licuria, Ryan Lonie and Sam Iles) in tomorrow's final round game against the Tassie Devils.
  22. Leaves Jeff White as the only player to play in every game this season. Do we have anybody left playing for Sandy on Saturday?
  23. Statistics and damned lies. What's the ratio in recent years if we take out 2006 which was hobbled by injury? Or more particularly, take out 2006 after Matthew Lloyd was injured following Round 1 when he kicked 6 goals in the first quarter against the reigning premier?
  24. Summers may have changed his position since because from the sound of the IF article he might be happy to get onto an AFL list. It should also be noted that the MFC doesn't have automatic first call on players who happen to be on Sandy's list. I wouldn't be surprised if players like Valenti, Summers, Monaghan, Stefan Martin and Tomi Johnston get strong consideration by clubs at the end of the year.
  25. Just back from the reserves game (I'm off for an afternoon of culture and art soon) and the Reserves' season virtually ended with defeat at the hands of North Ballarat, one of the club's rivals for a finals place. It was a depleted reserves team with at least four and possibly five of the seelcted side out including Melbounre listed player Heath Neville. They struggled early and then got ahead by a point with the first two goals but they were outclassed for almost all of the next two quarters before mounting a comeback of sorts late in the third term and in the first half of the last quarter. Unfortunalty, the Roosters kicked away at the end and that was it. Daniel Hayes looked pretty classy but Isaac Weetra was out of the play for most of the game. Each kicked a goal but they are still very much in their development stages. Sandringham 1.5.11 4.9.33 6.12.48 12.20.92 North Ballarat 3.4 22 8.10.58 13.16.94 18.18.126 Goals Sandringham Cleeve Yaman 2 Curcio Dean Dunne Hayes McGettigan Turcarelli Weetra Williams North Ballarat Schultz 4 Ewart Hardy Taylor 2 Burchell Dignan Drew Grima Morgan Otto Urquhart Raworth Best Sandringham McKenzie McGettigan Dean Gribbin Turcarelli Tregear North Ballarat Drew Clark Lewis Schultz Parkin Morgan A reasonably good crowd of Demon supporters are on hand and I saw some players in the crowd as well. James Frawley was there early (obviously catching up on some of his old North Ballarat mates) but I also saw Colin Garland walking around the boundary about half an hour before the game so I would suggest he's not playing. Edit: Quarter time sees the Zebras trailing by 14 points after some inaccuracy in front of goal. Sandringham 2.7.19 North Ballarat 5.3.33
