  1. Depends on the circumstances of the assault and whether the clown has a prior record. Otherwise, every chance he will get a monetary fine and/or community service. Bond an outside chance but unlikely given the publicity this is going to get.
  2. He certainly gets around young Christian. Latest tweet says he's enjoying learning yoga in a scenic valley in Thailand.
  3. They should that mongrel up good and proper. He should be forced to watch the replay of last night's game ten times as punishment.
  4. The Demons' all time leading goal kicker David Neitz chats with Rex Hunt on SEN tomorrow morning from 7:30am on Rexy's Football Life programme. If I'm up, I usually try to listen in an I find it entertaining - more so when the subject of the interview is a former Demon.
  5. I posted some Melksham highlights from the 2009 TAC Cup Grand Final on the TAC Cup thread. Melksham was arguably BOG in that game and it's clear from the package that he was something of a talent back then. I haven't been a big follower of Essendon on field but something obviously happened with Melksham in the past couple of seasons. I suppose that I'm speculating but it was Melksham who was named as one of the prime examples of Bomber players ... ahem ... "bulking up" big time in early 2011 when whatever unknown substances were apparently injected into 34 players at the club and perhaps the constant adverse publicity surrounding the saga has taken its toll. It could be that a change of scenery will do him the world of good if the chips fall his way at CAS.
  6. Hawthorn produced an absolutely clinical display of football. Watching it reminded me of how different a stratosphere it is that the Melbourne team occupies at the present time (fortunately we're not alone and at least we appear to be on our way up). On the other hand, while Fremantle did well to remain in the game for so long, the cracks in their makeup were exposed. The Ross Lyons defensive style is inadequate when confronted by the Hawks in full flight with their running and pin point accuracy. Nat Fyfe was gallant and played a great game despite his physical limitations on the night but the Dockers had too many passengers and with Pavlich, McPharlin, possibly Johnson and a couple of others on the way out, they might have missed the boat. The Hawthorn dynasty could go on for a while because it's not only Freo but a couple of others like the Swans and the Cats who could fall down the pecking order leaving room for others to fill the void. As the eternal optimist, I think we might be only one or two seasons of good recruiting and development away from pushing our way in to top 8 contention.
  7. I'm not sure where Jayden Hunt is in terms of the team's list. His progress has been slowed by various injuries and he has shown some glimpses of speed and polish as a footballer but in the games I've seen, they're only glimpses and he has too many quiet periods during which he seemingly vanishes from the game. This could be due to the history of injuries which might affect his ability to see out games but it's a definite question mark that I have over him at this stage and it wouldn't surprise me if he was delisted with a view to being rookied if available in the rookie draft. To my mind, he has a lot of developing to do before he can be AFL quality.
  8. The TAC Cup Grand Final is being televised for the first time since 2009 when the Calder Cannons 17.10.112 defeated Dandenong Stingrays 14.14.98. The following You Tube from that game might be of interest ~ The Bombers also drafted Jake Carlisle from that Calder Cannons team while the Demons took Tom Scully who did not play in the grand final due to a knee injury incurred in his team's preliminary final win.Other examples of players who have performed well in past TAC Cup finals series to improve their draft prospects have been Scott Pendlebury for Gippsland Power in 2005 and Steele Sidebottom who hit the headlines with his stunning ten goal performance for the Murray Bushrangers which rocketed him to the top ten in draft calculations. Sidebottom's teammate Tom Rockliff also had a big game and booted four goals but he was considered too slow and he was overlooked in the main draft but earned an invitation to train with Melbourne before going to Brisbane in the PSD. Scully was an underage player for the losing team. The official TAC Cup website takes a close look at the game:-TAC Cup Grand Final preview I suppose I am being repetitious but the stand out player for me is Eastern Ranges' dynamic 186cm running midfielder/forward Ryan Clarke who has starred in the three weeks of the finals to date. His teammate Sam Weideman is another highly touted prospect who won't be there due to a foot injury. I wouldn't mind it if that pair was reunited with Christian Petracca who was at the Ranges in 2013/4 but if wishes were dreams ...
  9. A bit reminiscent of our first quarter against the Hawks earlier this season when we kicked the first two goals and then they creamed us to be well in front by the first break. They applied relentless pressure after the first few minutes and that was that.

  11. Gold Coast's Aaron Hall has signed a new deal that will tie him to the Suns until the end of the 2018 season.
  12. Paige Cardona sums up the situation pretty well as Bomber fans are doing high 5s about Melksham's pending departure:-
  13. Re-signing with Carlton.
  14. In ruck, Long John Silver ... fish.
  15. Agree with much of that although it's difficult to compare stoppers on the strength of statistics alone so you could argue about the Crowley comparison. On the other hand, I have no doubt that Jordie would have had a much better record in a better team and there's a chance that he might still have a role somewhere given the example of Kyle Cheney who has managed to play finals football at two stronger clubs after he left us.
  16. For those who believe that Dangerfield is going anywhere else but Geelong it's worth pondering over the pain the Cats have gone with regard to letting some of their all time greats leave the club. Stevie Johnson would IMO have been kept on if they weren't absolutely sure that Danger was coming to them and it will happen - it's just a matter of how he gets across.
  17. It was an interesting draft in 2012 with GWS picking the following with their first three choices:-1. Lachie Whitfield 2. Jonathan O'Rourke 3. Lachlan Plowman One has gone, another's going and while Whitfield gets regular games, he's pretty inconsistent and arguably well behind any of picks 5 through to 9 in that draft:- 5. Jake Stringer 6. Jackson Macrae 7. Ollie Wines 8. Sam Mayes 9. Nick Vlastuin And of course, we know where 4's at right now.

  19. "Many football commentators had McDonald locked in for an All-Australian berth a third of the way into the season such was his was brilliant form down back. Although he had some quieter games, he bounced back strongly towards the end of the year to cap off a fine season. McDonald also showed his versatility later in the year, when he pushed up forward and pinch-hit in the ruck. 20. Don't bother showing his highlights reel from before he was drafted. He proved during his time at St Kilda to be totally incapable of reproducing anything remotely close. Another star at junior level unable to progress when in competition with men.
  21. A PRICE FOR BEING ADAM GOODES by Whispering Jack Adam Goodes first came to my notice during the TAC Cup finals of 1997. It was a year in which Melbourne, having performed miserably, had finished last and was about to receive the first pick in the AFL Draft. The 17 year old Goodes starred for the North Ballarat Rebels kicking six goals in a best on ground performance against the Dandenong Stingrays. All eyes that day had been on Travis Johnstone, a Stingray player described as the "Rolls Royce" of that year's draft pool. I was overseas in New York at the time of the draft, the internet was just starting to take off and there was nowhere to simply log on and find out who was selected. It took until we embarked on the Qantas flight from LA and I was offered a copy of a day old Australian newspaper that I finally discovered that Melbourne got the Roller and I was equally surprised that Goodes had been drafted by Sydney with a pick as low as No. 43 overall - their third round draft pick. It was an inspired selection but also a clever one. In those days, clubs could only select one 17 year old player. The Swans had selected Jason Saddington with their first pick and waited for others to make their selections, allowing them to take the last of the 17 year olds with such a low choice. It was another year and a half before Goodes would make his debut senior appearance after spending 1998 in the reserves. When he finally made his debut, he quickly leapt ahead of the rest of the pack of his young contemporaries and in the end outlasted all of them (Chad Cornes who retired two years ago came closest to him in longevity). He was the last Rising Star of the last century and he went on to hold an elite place in VFL/AFL history as a dual Brownlow Medallist, dual premiership player, four-time All-Australian and a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century. He also holds the record for the most games played for an Indigenous player - 372 games. He also kicked 464 goals and his playing achievements include:- * 2 AFL Premierships (2005, 2012) * 2 Brownlow Medals (2003, 2006) * 3 Bob Skilton Medals (2003, 2006, 2011) * 4 times All Australian (2003, 2006, 2009, 2011) * 3 times Sydney leading goalkicker (2009, 2010, 2011) * AFL Rising Star 1999 * Indigenous Team of the Century But that's not all ... When I arrived home from the States, my family had taped the AFL's draft and when I got around to watching it, I was taken as much by the small snippets of the Goodes family as I was by Melbourne's Rolls Royce pick up and the others like Nathan Brown and Guy Rigoni who were taken with later picks and who also turned out to be good players with the Demons. Of course, their careers all paled into insignificance next to that of Goodes, the shy awkward looking young kid whose family was a single parent family with three young boys (the father had long ago drifted away interstate). His mother's story was one of deprivation, much like that of many of her indigenous contemporaries but how proud must Lisa May Goodes have been that day when her son Adam was chosen to play in the country's highest sporting competition? How proud must she have been to see him achieve those many honours in the almost two decades that followed? And how proud must she have been that her son did not stop at achieving on the football field but that he stood up for the rights of his people and was named Australian of the Year in 2014 for his community work through the Go Foundation and advocacy against racism? We can never divorce ourselves from who we are. Adam Goodes did for his people the best that he could and much more than anyone could have expected on that day eighteen years ago when he picked to play for the Sydney Swans but he also paid a price for being Adam Goodes. You see, we all have our flaws and the same goes for kings, prime ministers and sporting heroes. Both on and off the field, a player can do things that might not please all. And the crowd can boo you if it likes, for the odd act or mistake that you might later regret, they can be angry that you've stood up for what you believe in, that you've achieved more in a single day than they have in their dreary, miserable lifetimes. They paid their admittance so they can even boo and then feign indignation that you had the gall to react to racism in your work place. But when they do it constantly and incessantly and let others who do much the same and in many cases far worse off the hook, then it's something else altogether. ... The price that the Sydney Swans paid for Adam Goodes was pick 43 in a long ago national draft. They received great value for their choice. All of us did.
