Possibly not many Demonlanders there to report on events at training today now that the footy's started but today's photo gallery indicates the group is very happy and a few more blokes are back on the track.

Russel Howcroft on Dean Bailey Article
Whispering_Jack replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think there's a person interested in the club who was happy with the way in which the situation was dealt with by all of the parties involved at the time. Howcroft's revelations shouldn't be surprising and we've discussed on these pages all the intricacies of the set up at the club - and they are certainly multi-faceted and difficult to deal with one item at a time and in isolation. Everybody has a point of view and I will view with interest any attempt in the future by a serious historian who tries to make a good fist of dealing with it all. There are some good lessons to be learned from the debacle but from my perspective, I'm just taking things one week at a time and looking to the future. -
And from the same source, vision from the Development League game -

Thanks to VitalDread from bigfooty who also works for the Casey Demons -

Mitch White was down as 2 - 3 weeks in the previous list but now no longer noted. Has he recovered or just been forgotten?

Actually, we have to add five names to make it a 25 man squad (and assuming no mystery injuries of the week this week). I would run with:- Don Tyson, Dean Kent, Cam Petersen, Jake Spencer and James Harmes.

Trio in the mix for callup "MIDFIELDER Dom Tyson, forward Dean Kent and utility James Harmes are pushing their claims for AFL selection after strong form for Casey last weekend. Casey Demons coach Justin Plapp said the trio performed strongly in a VFL practice match against Williamstown at Casey Fields last Saturday, and were making their case for a round two call-up against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday."

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

... and now that tyre company has not only lost lots of customers among Dee fans but also has the longest losing streak in Melbourne/ St Kilda games - 15. Losers!!! -
Was anyone watching the carnage in Adelaide?

Best thing that happened all day.

These things always look worse when replayed in slow mo but I doubt whether the Vince incident is worthy of action by the MRP. I just saw Jack Ziebell give Josh Kennedy a whack to the back of the head but it was also low impact and I doubt there will be any action taken with that one either.

We are in the opening round of the TAC Cup and Eastern Rangers forward Jaidyn Stephenson was yesterday's hero with five goals in his team's nine goal demolition of the Calder Cannons. Today, the Sandringham Dragons won 17.10.112 to Oakleigh Chargers 8.8.56 with the highlight being four goals to 201cm debutant Max King. Based on the name and the height there's a fair chance he might end up at Melbourne where his namesake was on the rookie list for a few years recently. Virat Kohli ruled out of the fourth and final test.

After a slow start, it looks like the Demons hit their straps at the end of the game with a 7 goal to 1 final quarter. Scores Casey Demons 2.0.12 6.3.39 9.6.60 16.9.105 Williamstown 2.6.18 6.7.43 9.8.62 10.9.69 Development League Casey Demons 3.3.21 7.7.49 10.10.70 12.11.83 Williamstown 0.4.4 4.5.29 5.7.37 6.10.44 From afl.com.au ~ Midfielder Dom Tyson accumulated 24 possessions, 16 inside 50s and kicked two goals in the Demons' 36-point win. Casey coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au that Tyson "performed really strongly" in his third game back from a knee injury. "He's had a delayed start because of injury … so he's going through the process of building time and we were really happy with his performance," Plapp said. Ruckman Jake Spencer (28 hit-outs, 10 disposals) and Dean Kent (20 disposals) were other notable standouts in the VFL practice match win.

Tough day at the office from KC. It was Port last week, Willi this week.

There's only one Melbourne player left at the club from its last win against St Kilda which everyone knows was the 2016 Elimination Final when a young Nathan Jones was just a pup and a bit player in his debut season with the club. We all know that because it's become a perennial to be reminded about our last win over the Saints by way of emphasis that we've been so poor for so long. For some of the time in between, it was not easy to beat them because they were a strength in the competition but that can't be said of the last few years when they still routinely embarrassed us. It all started on a day like today some ten years ago. The day of the 2007 Season Launch on 30th March when the teams met on a Friday night before a crowd that was just shy of 50,000. Like most of us, I was confident of a win - after all, we were the highest placed finisher of all of the Melbourne sides the year before and we had what we thought was a good, solid well-rounded team with some exciting youngsters. I remember Brock McLean went down with an injury. And I think Matty Whelan too. Anyway, nothing went right for us and in the end the scoreboard read "Melbourne 9.8 (62) defeated by St Kilda 13.15 (93)". By the end of the season we were a rabble, finishing in 14th place with just 5 wins, one of them coming in rather dubious circumstances in the final round of the season when we beat a tanking Carlton in the game that became the Kreuzer Cup. Long time coach Neale Daniher was sacked somewhere in between and replaced by a bloke who was good at coaching the team to beat the Blues. A lot of water passed under the bridge before the Demons met the Saints again in a season opener (in our case it was polluted water) on Saturday, 22 March, 2014 at 7:40 pm at today's venue, Etihad Stadium before a crowd of 31,657. It was Paul Roos' first game at the helm and we came in with lots of confidence, opened brightly and looked to be well on top. We were even keeping Nick Riewoldt quiet until Tom McDonald went down with injury along with Jack Fitzpatrick all in a short space of time in the second quarter. We also kicked about ten or eleven behinds in a row and our disastrous run continued. Riewoldt became the dominant player and they scored enough to win. I remember that we blew our last chance when Pedo ran into an open goal and missed from close in. St Kilda 10.8 (68) defeated Melbourne 6.15 (51). The only thing I can't understand is why am I so confident about today.

Obviously the AFL site hasn't heard about JKH's injury yet. Reliable news site about its own competition. (not to mention one J Wagner)

From the memory bank ... When Jimmy was first brought to Melbourne he struggled a little and the club sent him off to VFA club Prahran where he played in their 1986 finals series -

We need to read the fine print but it looks like a bit of a compromise compared with what I understood was originally mooted. AFL confirms changes to GWS Giants' academy -

AFLW Round 7 - Melbourne V Fremantle

A day of records - highest score, biggest winning margin and now, a 24 hour wait. Happy to hand over our newly won record winning margin to the Pies tomorrow. -
With Mitch Starc injured, I reckon James Pattinson would have to be close to the best pace bowler going around. Let's hope our young pace bowlers can stay healthy for a change.

AFLW Round 7 - Melbourne V Fremantle
Whispering_Jack replied to Dee Gee's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
I think you're right. We're still 20% behind so even with a big quarter we're not likely to catch the Crows' %age. We will most likely have to rely on a Collingwood victory ? or in the alternative a narrow Adelaide win in a really high scoring shootout.
