  1. A few coaches must be under the pump down there at the bottom of the ladder. That Luke bloke for instance ... 2. Thanks to Bigfooty's VitalDread.
  3. Good work dworship. It looks very much like KC's info was right and that the Casey team was limited to its VFL listed players only. Also, based on the scores, the Redtails ran out of steam after half time. I've heard some good things about Jai Rout from the Gippsland Power. Looks like Casey's recruiters are maintaining their good work of recent years.
  4. Good coverage of Maxy by the Sunday Sun. I like the reference at the end about Jimmy's family still being close to the club and that Brian Stynes has a "very handy little son who plays footy". Unfortunately, young Stynes only played two games for the Demons which leaves his boy 98 games short of qualifying under the father/son rule. Years ago, the old VFL introduced the father/son rule to enable Ron Barassi Jnr to play for his father's club after Barassi Snr was killed in action during WW2. Perhaps, it's time for an uncle/nephew rule? Also good to see Max is helping out with Jimmy's Reach Foundation. Quality stuff!
  5. Seems to me that the MFC will have to lift its game where the Casey affiliate is concerned. Virtually no pre game publicity or build up of the tour of a team from its NT region, presumably made up mainly of indigenous people who we were honouring earlier in the week and of the first match under the Casey Demons banner. The team wears the old Casey Scorpions gear (no explanation for that) and you can't get a score beyond half time and no media reports, nothing on the website of the Casey Demons, MFC or anywhere. The whole thing seems to have gotten lost in the Bermuda Triangle.
  6. Thanks to some classic Carlton tanking, the Saints have robbed us of top spot. This outrage has to be dealt with at AFL House, otherwise everybody will regard the JLT competition as meaningless. 7. Perhaps someone involved with the clubs will enlighten us.
  8. Many of the younger posters on this site might not be aware of Sam Weideman's grandfather Murray Weideman who was a star for Collingwood in the 1950s and 60s. I know this is Demonland and Murray played for the enemy at a time when there was substantial rivalry between the Dees and the Pies but I think there might be some interest in the first "Weed" to play the game at the highest level. Murray Weideman
  9. Makes me cringe too but since it started Melbourne hasn't lost a game so you'll have to either tolerate it ... or look away. 10. Two season previews from SEN:- PREVIEW: DEES ARE COMING, BUT GRAND PREDICTIONS ARE PREMATURE SEASON PREVIEW - MELBOURNE FC
  11. There's an open training session advertised on the club site to take place at Casey Fields today at 10.00am. This is the first of the autumn training sessions and with some light morning drizzle and a maximum temperature of 27 predicted, we should expect close to a full squad (possible exception being Bernard Tomic). If any of the locals is going, reports are welcome and let us know if you hear anything about a possible Casey Demons practice match at the weekend.
  12. It would seem that way. I haven't seen anything on the MFC or the Casey Demons sites about the game and nothing more recent than the NTFL report from last month. If there's a team from Central Australia in town to play an historic game tomorrow, it's certainly keeping a low profile.
  13. If I hadn't seen the Doggies' line up I would have thought there might be trouble in their camp. It was definitely their B team last night and they still almost got up to win. Their unofficial JLT ladder position isn't looking good - Melbourne 2 - - 208 148 140.5 8 Gold Coast Suns 2 - - 160 133 120.3 8 North Melbourne 2 - - 160 137 116.8 8 GWS Giants 1 - - 70 37 189.2 4 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Richmond 1 - - 92 73 126.0 4 West Coast Eagles 1 1 - 144 122 118.0 4 Collingwood 1 - - 105 94 111.7 4 St Kilda 1 - - 57 56 101.8 4 Hawthorn 1 1 - 172 189 91.0 4 Port Adelaide - 1 - 56 57 98.2 0 Sydney Swans - 1 - 63 65 96.9 0 Geelong - 1 - 94 98 95.9 0 Brisbane Lions 1 1 - 123 139 88.5 4 Essendon - 2 - 170 184 92.4 0 Western Bulldogs - 2 - 144 158 91.1 0 Adelaide - 1 - 73 92 79.3 0 Carlton - 1 - 62 116 53.4 0 Fremantle - 1 - 52 107 48.6 0

  15. With so much of the early emphasis at last night's MFC season launch on respect for our country and indigenous heritage, I was a little surprised at the lack of mention of Saturday's game between the Casey Demons and the Central Australian Redtails. The Redtails have embraced the Right Tracks Program which seems to me to be a truly worthwhile initiative to help young people in communities in the region to progress through life with a focus on helping them find work and also advance through playing sport. I suppose we might never know whether that concept might have helped Liam Jurrah before his life and footy career went awry. Possibly not but perhaps young people in the area will have better opportunities in the future as a result. There's been very little publicity given to the game which is unfortunate. Firstly, because of the worthwhile aspects described above and secondly, because this game will be the club's first under the Casey Demons banner, a fact which seems to be escaping almost unnoticed.
  16. No, but many would be surprised if it doesn't happen by Round 1.
  17. If it happens, I'll be close to the action because Joel Smith assume that's the Smith you're thinking about) and Max Gawn are on my table. Er ... actually I'm on their table.
  18. Out-of-favour Watts keeps chin up

  21. It was very anticlimactic. They were congratulatory and expressed their admiration for the way the club had rebuilt. I was both magnanimous and humble when they wondered why SOS had recruited the likes of Palmer and Smedts and then went into a tirade about losing Ediie Betts, Jeff Garlett and now Zach Toohey. I nodded and said, "I know the feeling". The food tasted magnificent.
  22. One player who won't be at Casey next Saturday according to this article is Jack Watts. Jack Watts might need to wait until March 19 to play a VFL practice game
  23. I can see some of the more senior players rested again or possibly eased in with a quarter or so while some who played yesterday like Dion Johnstone would also most likely get a run.
