WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
My grandsons' junior footy team plays and trains next door to where the Dragons train and I've had the opportunity to see Brayshaw train on a couple of occasions. I also saw him train with Melbourne earlier this season as part of the work experience training week for AIS players and I agree without hesitation, that he could step into an AFL side without much trouble in the early part of 2015. If Petracca's supposed to be even better we could have an interesting dilemma at draft time.

Anyone for cricket?
Zimbabwe's cricket team seems to be travelling no better than its economy. If the Aussies keep this up (ie big hitting in the first ODI) it won't do their confidence any harm.

It's a mere hop, step and a jump from Romsey to Craigieburn. There should be no excuses for missing Jesse Hogan's return and you'll have ample time to make it to the G for the first bounce at 3.20pm. Not many people can say they watched the Casey Scorpions and the GWS Giants in the flesh on the same day. Now, here's your big chance. If you go you can be our official correspondent because KC's a doubtful starter on account of the fact that he hasn't been able to start the Kingswood for the last few days and it's a long drive from Cranny to Craigy. The only reason I can think is that the AFL and the Bulldogs want their reserves players to watch the games the seniors team's involved in later in the day so as to give the appearance that there's actually a crowd at their game. It makes for a better look on Foxtel.

Freddie Clutterbuck
Well ... it's quite possible that Freddie might have given up on his dream of ever playing AFL but what worth would a Demonland Trade and Draft board be if his name wasn't mentioned in dispatches?

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Actually Bob. I don't think Jack Trengove's testing serves your argument very well here at all because if Petracca and Brayshaw test as well for their endurance, they would be definite shoe ins in terms of their ability as footballers to run in games. Also, one of the last players I recall whose style was criticised for relying on power at under age level was Ollie Wines. I believe there are some around Demonland who may have regrets that we overlooked him. Of course, it works both ways because others knocked Jackson McRae because he was a virtual unknown in junior circles and people had no idea about his stamina. Although physical testing remains important, there are other tests you need to apply and that is whether a kid can actually play football. I think we finally now have recruiters who can discern that a lot better than the mug who had the job a few years ago.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
As far as Petracca is concerned, my information is that he ticks all the boxes except endurance running which he's tested at about average in the past. I'm told he's been making a very determined effort to improve his tank and I suppose the testing at the Draft Camp or whatever it's called these days will give us a good indication. What I like though is that he obviously has a desire to improve himself and to work very hard to get there. As for Brayshaw, one of my contacts at the Sandringham Dragons has compared him favourably with Ollie Wines saying he's similar on a number of levels but has silkier skills. Interestingly, Brayshaw was among the best for the Dragons today while Billy Stretch did likewise yesterday at Glenelg in the SANFL.
