  1. You’d think so but I see it all the time. They are already talking about TDK and Xerri as the next big thing to take the GOAT mantle off Max and they achieved 2 % of duck all. It’s incredibly disrespectful. Your analysts talk about how Melbourne relies on Gawn too much (maybe so) but any other club and they’d say how good that player is etc etc - hall of famer etc.
  2. I knew this guy looked familiar....great find.
  3. Yeah i think the modern game doesnt really allow you to win against most teams with that type of pressure. Id expect to see Hawks with at least 2 quarters in the 190+ range. We melt like butter with anything over 180.
  4. Xerri is his only real threat and i reckon there's a lot of anti-Melbourne people already in the media flying his flag. Max needs to have 4-5 more of these type of games (i.e. 10 votes) to secure his AA.
  5. If Kozzy goes, we also need a small forward with x-factor. Because both Kozzy and Fritta (to a lesser extent) are really the only x-factor type players we have.
  6. If that were the case, i wouldnt expect the public display from Trac on Sat night. I do believe he pulled himself away to have a mental break.
  7. Do you think its possible that these mouthpieces get paid by Geelong to peddle this stuff constantly? They did it for Smith last year and i dont often see them going this hard when it involves other clubs. I think its part of a broader media influenced landscape that we don't have the capability / willingness / know-how in transacting with. i have no doubt [censored] like this goes on - whether there is an exchange of cash or information who knows, but it definitely isnt a level playing field.
  8. There is a bit in that. From what was Clayton will be a one club player to a position that is no longer so absolute. I'll maintain that if Clarry does want to go for whatever reason, we will send him on his merry way as long as we dont get left holding the bill. If Clarry wants to instigate the move, we have to be very firm with his management on what we expect in return because he is the one that is wanting to break contract. We can be realisitc (i.e. 3 first rounders is not fair value), however the kid is 27, has no major physical injury so has every opportunity to get back to his best. This to me commands 2 first rounders. Its not like Harley Reid who hasnt proven anything and is yet worth 3 first rounders depending on who you talk to. Clayton is in his physical prime and has a better chance (with proven experience) to get back to a top 5 player. He still has 6+ years of footy left in him, so that is 2 first round picks minimum. The other aspect relates to his destination. If its a fresh start that he is after and that is genuine, then that could be at any club. However, if its a, i want to get to Geelong, then i have trouble accepting 'a fresh start' as the only reason. Im not opposed to him having a preference on his destination but ultimately it has to work for both parties and the MFC should not be forced into a deal where we get the short end of the stick. A lot will be made about the salary dump, but as far as i know, we are not really in a bind here. so its a mute point for now. If however this was required as part of a bigger deal where we are talks with a Butters / Reid / Rowell and we'd need Oliver salary to make this possible then sure it can complicate matters. But i'd say with the footy we are playing and our list profile, we are 1-2 years away from having another crack and hence attracting top end talent where this maybe an issue.
  9. I think ultimately what stopped an absolute decimation on our account was that the Eagles managed to find some gears in Q2. They had a 200+ average quarter pressure rating, which most sides will fail to deal with within quarter. Thankfully it was short lived as they spent all their tickets putting up a response and we were able to respond to their response in Q2. Having said that, we have some problems with the way we give up goals from F50 turnovers and how easy teams can shotgun and score on us. Goody needs to sort this stuff out pronto. This isnt game-plan design stuff, its purely execution and players failing to setup correctly in defensive positions - even with ball in hand AND when they do, failing to stick tackles or cause turnovers. What confuses me is the fact that we have been putting on massive differentials in forward 50 tackles of late, but still getting scored heavily (and efficiently) when they get through the initial forward press. Its going to be a real problem with teams like Hawthorn, Pies etc who use shotgun scoring as their 1-wood. Dont know what the fix is to be honest, but i know the shotgun loving opposition clubs like to commit players to the top of our D50 arc and they just spread like wild fire once they get possesion. Is it even a higher forward press with more numbers to congest the F50 and just accepting that they may get through on rare occacion out the back?
  10. WC or not, it was Max's best performance from a stats perspective of his career. If he doesn't get the 3, then Gary - as he is known to do - is taking the anti-MFC supporter thing too far. Gawny is deserving. 22 contested possessions, 9 clearances and 1 goal is not an easy feat. Dangerfield will get 2 and Merrett will get 1.
  11. Clarry needs to realise that if he wants to move on for a fresh start, he'll be the one that is squeezed because as far as i can see: Dees shouldn't be expected to pay any of his salary given what we have already done for him to nurse him back to health. Granted some work still to be done, but we have not shied away from giving him everything he needs to recover. It arguably has costs us a lot over the past 2 years - not saying everything that has gone wrong is because of him but he had a lot to do with the cohesion and culture side of things. We expect compensation for a multiple AA 2xALFCA and 4xB&F. minimum is 1 first round pick.
  12. I can’t believe I stayed up to watch it. I’m gonna give my self a ‘Caro bad call’ Tom said, loves the club, the players, the coach but just think he needs a fresh start as he has asked for the last 2 years and is expected to ask again. Just sounds like he is frustrated and just needs to find some confidence. Also every week his reported annual salary keeps getting higher. It’s 1.5-1.7 now. Soon he’ll be the highest paid player in the comp without having negotiated a new contract.
  13. Not this [censored] again. its not even halfway through the year yet. End of the day if he wants to go, then he can take a pay cut to whatever club he wants as long as we get 2 x 1st round picks coming back the other way. If he cant, then suck it up and play out your contract. After the club stuck fat by him given what he did in 2023, this is incredibly salty. The guy who tried to get rid of him was even retired. if i take this as true (Big IF) then one can assume he is not putting in 100% (given what we saw in the offseason vs season proper). I wonder if he is being asked to do this to 'reduce' his value. Has a funky smell like Smith doing his recovery away from the Dogs and forcing a trade.
  14. A reality check beckons next week. Like it or not , we cannot defend turnovers well and Gawks are great ball users. We need to keep the game a contested, stoppage based game otherwise we’ll get slaughtered on the outside.
  15. Goodys on notice. But seriously Jones needs a good 10 years in the system before a senior coach role beckons.
  16. Has Christians threatened to resign yet?
  17. Ginby has form too. Didn’t he push Lalor during preseason? Seems he hasn’t learnt his lesson
  18. I mentioned the same last night. I didn’t realise however that Petty was concussed as a result. I also love that finally Goody was strong in his opinion and assertive in the presser that Melk was contesting the ball. I think Ginby is the one in trouble and is likely to get 3 weeks for the concussion caused on Petty.
  19. 6 Gawn 5 Trac 4 chin 3 Turner 2 Viney 1 Melksham
  20. I have watched the incident a few times now. Not one person has mentioned that Ginbey pushes Petty into the path of McGovern and contributes to the contact. Also Riewoldta commentary wasn’t that bad, basically saying that the AFL is now punishing the outcome more than ever. If Milkshake gets a suspension I’ll be absolutely livid.
  21. I disagree. The modern game suits him perfectly. He is ultra athletic for a tall lad. Beautiful kick and mark. He has every opportunity to become a high value player. Just needs the experience and belief. I really have high hopes for him.
  22. And the media madness continues.
  23. Feel for Crisp and don’t at the same time. He is going to want that moment back for the rest of his life. And it’s also official. Bailey Smith is a complete [censored] taking a dig at his old club on live TV. Say what you want about your old club behind closed doors but to air it out in the public eye just makes you look like a complete [censored] … just shows you the arrogance of Geelong.
  24. 100% he shouldn’t but you just know that he’ll get suspended.
  25. Turner and Petty as the 1 and 2 in the forward line is my preference. Give a trial for the next month. JVR had his chance and I reckon needs to have a solid month in the 2’s. Fritta is on thin ice too. Should have had 4-5 goals tonight. Milkshake, probably gets rubbed out because it’s MFC.
