With regards to next season and beyond I’ll just leave this here… No one can predict jack. Not the media, not anyone. Brisbane were $81 for the flag and out of the gate in round 1 smashed the reigning premiers. I still believe we have a capable list with extraordinary talent and so many players who can now now show their true potential when it comes to the midfield. Don’t think we can come close to winning the flag, but we can make finals. Melbourne is living proof across 21-25 that talent alone isn’t enough. With a new direction, I believe we can prove duds like Sam Maclure wrong in 2026, hence building towards another flag in quick time. I believe in the list and the new look club.

Commodity traders as an example, travel so often that they can go 5-6 months away from their home country. Actually, on paper the team itself still has enough quality and players like Rivers who can really breakout to cause enough of a threat to potentially make the 8 with luck and proper in season management of players. We may not contend in the sense of the top 4, but can fall into 7th to 8th. Defense: Turner, Lever, McDonald, Bowey, AWM (if ready to go), Petty, Howes.. Mid: Viney (seriously underrated ball winner still although disposal is rubbish at times), Rivers, Langford, Langdon, Lindsay, Windsor, Pickett, Culley Fwd: JVR, Chandler, Fritsch, Michoek- seriously smart player who is a good contested player, but at worst, he’s foil for JVR and bringing ball to ground for the likes of Chandler and Pickett to crumb. Sparrow is the other who can really get back to his best under a new setup as his defensive ability like tackling is still pretty good. I expect us to miss again, but I also cannot help but feel we can also get a new coach bounce and stay alive for finals late into the season.

Was fairly confident about next year in spite of Petracca certain to leave, but if the Oliver reports are true, I’ll have to re-assess expectations. Can’t be losing May, Trac and Oliver and expect to rebound and contend, let alone a top 6 finish. Oliver especially has shown he is still capable and with a full pre season, he can play top level footy again in 2026. In saying that, the kids on the list are really good. As long as there is a clear direction and pathway forward, fans can cop another season without finals.

Wish Trac all the best with his life and the injury he sustained, but let’s remind ourselves that the grass isn’t always greener (Ablett to Gold Coast and his incessant premiership talks, Deledio to GWS at the end of 2016, Fevola and Beams to Brisbane, Gibbs to Adelaide, Vickery yo Hawthorn..) But, good riddance to Petracca and I have full belief Guerra and Smith will lead this club really well and back towards the top end.

Have strong belief in him. Underrated intercept abilities and decent kick. Panics under pressure, but really can’t blame him in a side that wets the bed quite often, particularly in the midfield with little pressure applied. With McVee going back to WA, Howes will get plenty of chances under a new regime and a coach who can hopefully get him to become like a Connor Idun, a really good defender and undervalued player in the comp.

I’d give anything to be as successful as them in terms of contending year in, year out.

Why are neutrals even excited about this? When Dortmund won the Bundesliga back to back across 2009 to 2012 it was exciting. Since then, Bayern went on to win 11 titles in a row before Leverkusen broke the duck. Either way, we lose. Dangerfield 2x premiership winner or Zorko tasting success in successive years. See, the thing about this is, why Mihochek when someone like Caminiti is 10 years younger with a lot of upside and similar playstyle who is apparently on the trade table. Can also play both ends which is enticing Collingwood to try to bring him in. JVR is coming into season 5 and if he were to ever truly breakout and become the player we hope he can be then this is it. I would be backing him to strive as the number 1 under a new system that promises to be more attacking and free flowing. We were never signing Oscar Allen, but it would be nice to see the club be floated around more. Since the flag, the names we have bought in have been extremely underwhelming.

Still salty about how we arguably made them believe again after having them on toast in terms of past match ups and squandering so many chances in that Semi Final. Impressive speaker and communicator. Talked about drive from the back half as a big part of the modern game so I get the feeling, especially after talking about intently studying the list prior to applying for the job, I don’t think Rivers will be moved into the midfield like most expect. A revamped style with Bowey and Rivers rebounding is an exciting prospect. Bowey isn’t as explosive, but is quick and a great ball user which could be the perfect combination. Also can’t wait to see what he does with the forward set up as a result of a more positive style.

We could have potentially put a halt to the worst 4 possible prelim matchups. If we didn’t choke and beat the Pies, Adelaide vs GWS first QF and one would make the prelim and potentially get the week off and make the GF. That would have left Pies and Hawks to kill each other in the Elimination final. Not a guarantee, but at least there was a chance of having a watchable Grand Final. Honestly, what a choke by Melbourne and Adelaide to breathe new life into the Pies. They were on their knees and both clubs played them back into form.

Didn’t watch, can’t stand the Hawks and the likes of Watson and Ginnivan, but this is what a winning club looks like and something I hope King, Guerra and Smith can turn us into. Just gotta give them their dues and credit them. Say what you want about the Hawks, they are a true winners club and hardly rebuild for long periods. Since ‘61, they have won at least 1 flag every decade and are contending again in a quick way. Remember their “wooden spoon” battle against North Melbourne after both clubs went 0-6 to start last year? Unbelievable…

Say what you want about West Coast, yeah, yeah… WA is a two team state, but to still average 40 odd k for home matches over the last 5 years in spite of being absolute shizen on field is credit to the club and their fans. They seem like a well run club off field in spite of the onfield dramas. Can’t begrudge them for that despite how much they are primarily despised on the east coast. Collingwood as well. To average 60k and to have 50+ consistently turn up against the likes of Fremantle is something the Melbourne football club can only dream of.

Never once stepped foot in South Australia before in my life, but having just beaten the long awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong a few minutes ago, I genuinely feel like a lifelong South Australian. I’m praying like crazy the Crows win it all.
