Fritsch looking very good. Playing as a half forward provides so much more options up forward with the separation and making us a lot more unpredictable. He isn’t as physical as McCreery, but similarities are there in terms of the hard running Fritsch has been doing over the last few weeks, first class. The goal sense that Fritsch possesses at his best cannot be coached. Hoping he doesn’t leave.

Good physical and positive intent so far. It feels as if there was pent up frustration by the Alice Springs disappointment especially when you consider that was StKilda’s last win.

He seemingly wants to desperately come home, but only if the right club comes along. Gawn is the antithesis of this. Probably could have left due to admitting Jamar playing good footy, hence keeping him out for long periods, but decided to crack in, dispose of the bad habits and work hard. The grass isn’t always greener and Gawn is proof of this and was greatly rewarded.

Looking at the Collingwood draw, asides from Richmond, hardly any gimmes. Their top 4 hopes could literally hinge on the last round against Melbourne. If it happens, would love to deny their top 4 hopes and beat them. Just imagine being their live to witness it… As for Gold Coast, they really only have 2 gimmes (Essendon and Richmond). The dogs have a good run and crazy to think GC could still potentially miss finals with 13 wins.

All the talk about rebuilds, but I don’t see it. The list is still good enough and if it weren’t for self killing moments/performances against Pies, Hawks, Saints, Port and Adelaide, we should be winning those 5 winnable matches and we are right inside the 8 as we speak. We were legitimately a chance to make finals. A reset is more like it and I’m a fan of Jaymie Graham. He was the forward coach at West Coast during their top 4 era and 2018 flag and apart of the Fremantle coaching setup who is willing to adapt and change in accordingly. Yeah, they are chokers, but at least Longmire and co actually accepted the need to change up their style. Remember how they were a dour, high uncontested marking team to a more attacking team pre their 5-6 win run which in turn made them a top 8 contender? Someone like Graham would be similar to Craig McCrae and Kingsley in the sense of having done the apprenticeship, fresh to coaching and is ready to come in and make an immediate impact. He seems like the perfect rookie coach to rejuvenate the players while we still have the likes of Gawn, May and Melksham at their peak and make another couple runs at a flag. I’m not entirely convinced Leppitsch, Buckley or even Longmire can come in and for certain change our fortunes. At the moment, seeing us lose in the same manner every week under Goodwin is utter dross. Watching us trying to chain possessions together is the equivalent of nails on chalkboard.

Most of us want change and varying change at that within the club, but let’s be real, win or lose, change won’t come on the back of this one result. If I’m honest, losing to North wouldn’t have mattered all too much to me, but I desperately want to win tonight. 30 years and counting… let’s heap more misery onto this deplorable club and its fanbase.

Looking at Collingwood’s draw, asides from Richmond, it’s a tough draw. If we could overturn the losing streak against Carlton on Saturday night and send them deeper into purgatory and then ruin Collingwood’s top 4 hopes in the last round, it’ll make me very happy! Would love to see Fritsch persisted further up the ground essentially playing as a high half forward. North’s defense has been pretty good this season, but the chaos playing Fritsch further up unwound them and took pressure off Jefferson and JVR. Perhaps the Jack Gunston role going forward is the answer instead of playing as a pseudo full forward. It was about time we saw a meaningful tactical change with him. Either way, gotta persist with Jefferson and JVR and just keep playing them as the 2 pillars up forward.

This was their spine against Richmond: B: Laverde, Ridley, Redmond Mid: Merrett, Duursma, Durham, Tsatas Forward: Wright, Kako, Caddy On top of Setterfield, Prior, McGrath and Clarke. Still enough quality there to beat Richmond. Injuries are a reason, never an excuse. Dogs and GWS have done extremely well in face of personnel and injury concerns.

Goodwin’s last stand if we lose, surely… doesn’t matter if they are missing LDU and Larkey. How North are $4.50 is beyond me. We lost to literal Essendon VFL side in 2016 and punters really believe we should be this short in the odds? McKercher is playing the best he has and Curtis could run rings around Salem and kick 5+. Rumors were swirling months ago that Lever could be on the trade table anyway. With Turner’s continuing emergence and May’s ability to still play high quality footy, if the right option comes along, the club should look to cash in on Lever. You can’t replace the gorilla full backs as easily as you can a half back floater. Would love to see Jed Adams bought in for the remainder of the season to see what he can bring, but irregardless, I sense some sort of shuffling of positions in the defensive stocks post season.

This is a results industry and yeah, we may not be as experienced as yesteryears and carry a lot of young talent, but no one can say we didn’t have chances to potentially play finals. The same mistakes and lack of ability to close out matches has been costly. This game went begging, as did Collingwood, GWS, St Kilda, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide . We really should be at 9-10 wins and giving our ourselves a serious chance with North, St Kilda, Carlton and West Coast to come. Such a frustrating nearly season as simply playing finals would propel and give experience to the likes of Langford and Lindsay into a greater sphere in 2026.
