Guys & Dolls, they’re just list management questions. Please try to resist attacking me for posting them and have a good old debate about the topic at hand. Thanks. BD.

It’s trolling to question list management decisions? 🤔
-
Only in another person’s mind who feels insecure or unsure about their opinions or views. Are we really supposed to preface every comment by saying, “Now I know truth can be subjective and perspectives depend on myriad personal factors … so please bare that in mind as I give the following opinion.” C’mon dude. Harden up a bit.

They’re not true. Unsubstantiated, unhelpful gossip posted by a ‘legend in their own lunchtime’ cheer squad member on this forum. The Grundy trade will be unaffected by any of that nonsense.
-
They have done a very good job, no doubt. Not with these two, though. They did not plan well when it came to the key forward zone of the ground and it’s hurting us post-premiership. It may well be an ‘outlier’ but it’s proving to be a damn costly one.
-
Why would anyone offer an opinion disbelieving it to be the correct one?
-
Disengaging probably the smart move. Quit while you’re behind 🫠

I asked a Balinese Shaman what we can do about TMac. He replied: ”Tidak ada apa-apa. Dia bergerak lebih lambat dari seorang pemalas. Dia sudah matang “. ( “Nothing. He now moves slower than a sloth. He’s cooked.” )

So according to your logic, unless a person has intricate, behind-the-scenes knowledge of decision-making processes in an organisation (sporting or otherwise), then they should just keep their mouth shut? Maybe you should re-read your posts because they seem incredibly closed minded. Blind faith is rarely a good quality to exhibit in any walk of life. Perfectly fine for members and supporters to ask hard questions of their football club when it’s more than apparent certain decisions were ill-conceived or poorly executed. They’re just questions EO. Words on a page. Perhaps ask yourself why you’re so sensitive about them and feel this constant need to sound off on the messenger.

- 3 years was more than adequate for Brown. Negotiating failure to cave to 4. As stated previously he was moving from a bottom club to a club in flag contention. - Wait and see on TMac or at most offer 1 year on top of his previous contract’s 2022 expiry. Standard practice with guys nearing or at 30yo, especially older key position players. - Tom Lynch a poor comparison. Huge contributor in TWO flags with 2023 being his ONLY non-contributing year in five seasons due to injury. I’m always happy to laud good decisions and clap successes, but the difference between me and you it seems EO is that I’m also willing to call out failures and moves which either hurt or hamstring the club. Not out of any vindictiveness but because I always want to see us do better. Maybe you should, too.

”Not a chance”? Where do you get your confidence from to post that? Both are contracted. Neither has made a single noise about retiring.
-
Brown came for 4 years, not 3 as you’ve stated. You are correct about the two of them being crucial to premiership success in 2021 but by the end of 2024, a full three years later, both will have contributed next to nothing to our push for a second flag. THREE full seasons. ’Let’s be honest’ - that’s not really acceptable.
-
So if as is seeming increasingly likely we end up with a choice of Sanders, Watson, O’Sullivan or Caddy at pick 5 … who should we take? Sanders does look a beauty but is Watson a bigger need? Is O’Sullivan too big a KPD talent to pass up? Huge decisions loom for Jason Taylor.

Ahh that old passive aggressive chestnut 🌰 Shhh … don’t ask any uncomfortable questions 🤫
-
Entitled to your view but without plunging into politics it’s doubtful there’s anything analogous to Trump or his supposed ‘populism’. Stick to footy EO.
-
To me that seems poor negotiating. Shouldn’t it be the player who makes a bit of a sacrifice in terms of dollars or length of contract in order to have a chance of playing in a premiership winning side? It was Brown who wanted to move from a bottom to a top club. Seems our list manager got that principle [censored] about. And you didn’t mention TMac. Poor decision to extend his deal for TWO full years beyond 2022 given his age and obvious slowing down. These were football department decisions (Tim Lamb?) that basically left us with a gaping hole and precious little back up in attack for 2023 and possibly will for 2024 as well. Some poor decision making on the part of the football department.

I wouldn’t say it’s mine and “a few others”. It would be the majority of our supporters and probably an overwhelming one if you were to take a poll on it. Media pundits as well. There was never this degree of talk about the Dogs winning at least two premierships with their list. You would be well in the minority with your view. If being the first side to exit in straight sets in consecutive years, losing four home finals in a row, doesn’t burn a fire in the pit of your gut, then I’m not sure (in a sporting sense) what would.
-
Some footy journos like Sam Landsberger are pushing the deal will get done ‘quickly’, Sydney will get Grundy relatively ‘cheap’ angle. “Melbourne’s mistake” … “They want him out the door” … “Didn’t deem him good enough for senior selection” … etc etc. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-news-rumours-whispers-2023-brodie-grundy-sydney-deal-could-be-first-deal-done-brynn-teakle-north-melbourne-kai-lohmann-contract/news-story/ec3d2b218bdb8b496af364cdbb801fa7

Sorry, but you’re completely wrong. Expectations and hopes are not uniform among clubs from season to season. Two consecutive straight sets exits for a side supposedly in its prime, coming off a premiership victory, is humiliating to the core and should be felt as such by everyone at Melbourne, from the coach to the orange cutter. Our club goes into 2024 high on the pressure index. Rightly of wrongly we have now been branded fragile chokers by the football industry, ‘an unfulfilled and wasted golden generation’ - a charge that will stick like mud unless and until we do something about it.
-
A million bucks plus and two key forward list spots wasted heading into 2024. Both did not contribute meaningfully at all in 2023. Any way you look at it that’s a list management howler. Worse than the Grundy trade if we’re being honest. Who was responsible for it? Will it hamstring our chances to win the flag next year? Should we try to come to an arrangement with at least one of these players to call time on their careers? That’s a hell of a lot of cash allocated to Casey ‘mentors’ and to have sitting in the rehab room. Worth a discussion even if some find it uncomfortable. Elephant in the room stuff for mine. 🏡🐘

It’s extremely jarring isn’t it. It will either make or break the psyche of the MFC over the the 12 - 24 months. They can use it as fuel, or capitulate.

If B. King remains unsigned we will just be one of 12+ clubs who will table offers for him. Pie in the sky stuff. 🥧🌤️
