Three years from now, Gawn and May will be gone, possibly Viney too, and players like Trac, Salem, Langdon, Lever, ANB will all be over 30. We'll be bottoming out when Tasmania have first access to all the draft talent. A rebuild will take an eternity. The coaches and the players need to get this [censored] figured out. I can deal with the second half of the decade being [censored] if we can win a [censored] final or two this year.

The grand final is starting to hurt now. I can't deal with the fact we won it in Perth, then somehow haven't won a final in Melbourne since. And looks like we're on the same trajectory again.

The team completely lost my trust last night. I won't believe we'll win a final until I see it happen, which is going to make for a long, long year. Our scoring issues have been around for 2+ years now. They aren't going away.

These are elite athletes coming off extended breaks prior to the 5 day break. Carlton had two consecutive 6 day breaks. Rest is no excuse at all. We're just not that good

I guess Chris Scott was right. Geelong were off. Premiership teams don't get smacked around, let alone 3 times in the first 9 games. Watching that MCG grand final dream disappear.

Looking at our last 3 games: In first quarters we've kicked 7 goals total In second quarters we've kicked 1 goal total In third quarters iwe've kicked 8 goals total In fourth quarters we've kicked 15 goals total Can we please, please score more heavily in the first half tonight? Especially the second quarter?

The 5 day break shouldn't be an issue. Stats show that it becomes an issue when you either have a significant difference to the break of your opponent, or when you're having multiple consectuvie short weeks. Carlton will only get 1 extra day rest, and we had long breaks between the past two games, so it's not a factor nor an excuse. It was a fair excuse for the loss to Brisbane. Repeat short turnarounds compounding. After the Carlton game, we have breaks of 9 days, 7 days, 7 days, 8 days and then a bye. After the bye, there aren't many big games that would get scheduled for a Thursday or Friday, so we should avoid many more short turnarounds.

Amazing how Geelong supporters are drinking up the Chris Scott narrative that they were "off" and it's a positive that they still only lost by 10 points. This all conveniently ignores our own terrible kicking at goal. Also doesn't count the number of opportunities we gave up without even taking a shot, like Kozzie turning over instead of having a shot in the 4th quarter. They were lucky we didn't win by 6 goals.

Two questions from me: Jed Adams. How is he developing? We'll need another key defender possily as soon as next year if McDonald retires. AWM. 30 disposals, is that a career high? What would his role in the AFL be? Seems to get a bit of interest with DL posters but i've never even seen him as an emergency for the AFL.

We've got a problem with Billings. If Spargo was fit, that would be the change to make. Otherwise, is it Hunter? Jack needs to go either way. He completely disappears in big games. It's not Laurie. The sub role isn't easy, but others that have come before him in that role - Jordon, Smith, Woewodin - all managed to show way more than Laurie has. I'd be tempted to play Hunter for Billings, with Bowey as the sub. If Bowey is needed to cover injury (other than in defence), Rivers or Woewodin can move up the ground. Hell I'm sure Bowey can play up the ground if needed too.

Surely he finally gets the Rising Star nomination this week.

Gonna change something with the sub. Laurie just doesn't have it, he's not an impact player. 1 touch and no tackles with fresh legs is not what we need with the game on the line.

I apologise for the doom and gloom in the match thread, I just can't help it. Everything about this game pointed to another heartbreaking, self inflicted loss. Thank god it wasn't. Petty the MVP.
