  1. Checking in from Portugal near Guincho, where some of Her Majesty's Secret Service was filmed with Aussie George Lazenby in the lead role. I also once sold a CD to Sean Connery. Conclusion: no Australian should ever play Bond.
  2. Why do you think the AFL would lower the free agency compo for Tasmania? What would be the practical reason if Tas were being made to draft out of the top end anyway (although I doubt that will apply to the top two or three draft concessions)? I would imagine they'd also want to encourage clubs to let their RAs go.
  3. Thanks for adding my originally intended link. I see mine is about something completely unrelated. @Demonland Is it possible to fix that please?
  4. But if they raid our star player free agency stocks toward the end of their careers on big $ it could set us up for a rapid rebuild through high-end draft compo and trade cookies, no? Maybe the timing will be perfect?
  5. Two-pronged question. Hun journalist Sam Hamburger has reported the 'Tasmania Devils' will likely receive very different draft concessions than the Giants and GWS. See here for non a non-paywalled report: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-17/australia-to-miss-2030-climate-goal-by-couple-years-oxford-says?srnd=green&embedded-checkout=true If you were an AFL administrator, how would you manage the Devil's entry? Also, the draft hand-outs to the previous two expansion clubs undoubtedly impacted the MFC's rebuild while we were at the bottom of the pack. Forecasting ahead, how do you think the next round of proposed concessions may impact our club and others? Is there a strategy we can put in place to mitigate? (For the record, I'm not sjit-stirring: I'm all for the Tasmanian expansion, and would love to see an NT-based club enter the league at the same time or thereabouts)

But our system now has even higher standards. The fact he referenced both Viney and Gawn means the club wasn't trying to make him become a particular type of player or personality, but likely they were pushing a greater level of leadership and professionalism.

I've said a similar thing about girlfriends dumping me in the past. It doesn't mean they were wrong, other than being attracted to me in the first place and persisting for too long due to a misguided hope of 'potential'.
  8. I feel for Rosas. It was until all those Covid warnings that I realised how often I make contact with my head.
  9. You mean in having married a Collingwood supporter?
  10. A glorious afternoon at the MCG by all accounts. I think our president should come out and encourage more of our fans to come along and make some noise.

To be fair, the bathwater back then was likely rife with Tuberculosis and other nasties.

When will Melbourne break these obscure embarassing records?
  13. Precisely. She's fulfilling her exact job description. Like it or not, Collingwood is the benchmark. And they in part got that way through an annoying parochial president who continually rallied the troops.
  14. Apologies to you and @Dr. Gonzo. I was only trying to highlight how ridiculous the reaction has been. I tend to assume everyone knows my tounge is always firmly planted.
  15. That a president is trying to drum up support through the media? Isn't it obvious?
  16. A president of a sporting club has come out in public and said they'd like more supporters to attend games and express their support vocally. Can you not see the problem here?
  17. And we've never missed a flag after losing round zero.

Wait. Is the MCG predicting no one will rock up for the Carlton-Richmond match? Big call.
  19. I recently bought a Mash Five Hundred - part of the modern 'retro bike' renaissance. Pretty chuffed with it.

The club needs to come out and clearly state it's intentions to the media on JUH before it's too late and we miss our chance to be in a news article.
  21. Maybe you should write the club a letter?Things can sometimes be overlooked in organisations with a lot of cogs, so it's possible the 'improve the forward line' memo just got lost in someone's inbox tray.
  22. We lost by 22 points. We were 2 points behind at 3/4 time. I know you're newer to the sport, but it highlights our remarkable consistency and competitiveness in recent years if the three losses you cited (the other two by 11 and 27 points on the road) have you up in arms. Also, you might wanna roll the tape back on 2018 (from memory, the 'Is Goodwin the Right Guy?' thread was started around round 5.)
  23. The humidity levels in Sydney were off the charts tonight. Gawn mentioned it felt like playing in Darwin, but generally when we play in the Top End it's during the dry, albeit still slippery. Anyone who has ever travelled from the southern states to play footy up north during wet season months though will know how insanely challenging it is if you're not used to it. The ball going straight through your hands is one thing, but you simply can't get enough oxygen into the lungs to keep pushing, no matter how willing. We weren't that bad tonight. Sydney handled the ball 10% better and had 10% more puff. For elite, fine-tuned athletes in a tough and tight competition, those figures make a huge difference. Especially when it was our first real hit-out for the season, and against opposition more familiar with the local conditions. People can scream 'no excuses!' all they want, but it's counter to what we actually know about elite performance in today's sporting environment. I'm not arguing that we don't have some concerning weaknesses, as all teams do, but wait until next week to making sweeping judgments. And in the meantime ponder our early season match against the Lions at the Gabba last year and how we followed up back in Melbourne.
  24. It looks like your Boomer coffee plunger is lecturing your recalcitrant Gen-Y V's on the quality of caffeine/i50s over quantity.
  25. My Melbourne Demons evangelical preseason mission to Mozambique is now complete - including an absurd 2.30am start for the Richmond scratch - and I'm hoping I may have converted at least one or two of the locals for the real stuff's much more time-friendly opening fixture. My concern however is that while grasping the complexity of the rules is difficult enough, even for AFL natives according to our match-day threads, getting their heads around the concept of Round Zero may be a bridge too far. Go Dees! See you crazies on the other side.
