  1. I avoid both like I avoid untermenschen who reckon Brayshaw ran into poor Maynard.
  2. Funny, I never, ever watched them.
  3. Nein, mein herr, mensch as a Yiddish term has been around long before the Balfour Declaration. And, just for the record, nobody hates US so-called 'Cultural Imperialism' and everything it stands for more than me.
  4. Ya, however, on the other hand, as the dialogue goes, when three Jewish people get together, and you get four opinions - it's one of the things I love about - it's not all about the Sch part of Scheißkerl. There are also, shall we call them the fallow periods, or when one wishes to recite the Lord's Prayer - a great example of Tautology, mind you - 'Give us this day our daily that word beginning with sch' When it happens, finally, after 4 or 5 days, is when I have the Damascus Moments, a la Saul of Tarsus, and I believe in de Lord!
  5. Thank you for your birthday wishes. I agree with you 150% about the Cripps incident. I'll bet my bottom dollar that Clarrie had a difficult time growing up, that he was picked on. I recall an ex North player whose Beechworth winery I represented, telling me that Clarrie was 'Trouble' when Melbourne recruited him. Now, let's just say, because of where I came from in July 1956 when we landed at Port Melbourne on the good ship Fairsea, I got picked on. These incidents beyond one's control stay with you for the rest of your life. At the time it's happening, you are forced to 'deal with the real' and make the best of it. I'm not relating this as a sob story, I am trying to make a point that as survivors of those 'facts of life', people like Clarrie choose to behave with true compassion for the rest of their lives, something I recognize, because I chose to take this option as well. In other words, it taught me about the true meaning of, I am you and you are me.
  6. He came from the wild west of Colac region so he was either a German of a Wend or a Sorb. You could just call yourself a mensch if you originate from that part of Europe.
  7. 6: Gawn 5: Lever 4: May 3: Turner 2: Langdon 1: McDonald
  8. And at 74 one becomes an 'Alte Kacker'?
  9. At the 9.43 mark of the third quarter, after Hopper had injured his leg again, I noted Oliver giving a pat to the injured opposition player. I turn 74 today, and the older I get, the more gestures like that impress me. With regard to Oliver's performance, he's slowly but surely getting there. he has come from a long way back. All power to him.
  10. Since I can't bear to watch any live Melbourne Games - for example, I gave up before 10 minutes of the Grand Final they won after Bulldoggers kicked a goal - I'm watching the replay. It's Quarter Time. Every kick to Petty bar one has been either a grubber of a kick to his opponent. UM, if I was a forward with delivery like that, I'd prefer to play golf - which I'm hopeless at. Then again, my dad told me once, Don't worry about hitting the ball into the scrub - you find a lot of golf balls there.
  11. I noted with usual dismay Corney Man telling his audience that Butters had no case to answer. Sure...he just incidentally knocked a player's head. I bet if the Buttman was playing in a Demon jumper, the Corney man's perspective might waver not in the Buttman's favor.
  12. Who the hell cares what other 'fans' think of our players? They all have their own agendas and blind spots.
  13. How often has Cornes been wrong recently? He is just very fond of making things up as he goes along.
  14. Especially the ones who don't commit common assault on the football field.
  15. I always hated him: he should have served jail time for common assault many times: ditto Don Scott, Dipper, Matthews etc
  16. There's also the -what is for me - the main element. Which, as one commentator pointed out, had Oliver stood his ground, he would have hit Fogarty front on and been suspended.
  17. The trouble with South Australians is the Sassenachs outnumber the Germans, hence the lack of class. And as far as humour goes, you obviously are not aware that a German joke is no laughing matter.
  18. Schmoedious, as long as he loves his mother.
  19. Weally and twooly, does it matter?????? Or, as I might ask my dear Missus: Please don't be so pedantic.
  20. I hate pedantic superciliousness. After Quarter time - who is 'we', white man, it's them, the Melbourne players, 'we' had nothing to do with it - they- The Melbourne Football Club, kicked 8goals and 18 behinds. The Crows kicked 6 goals 10 behinds. That is, the Crows, elles, essi, sie, were kept in the game by whatever you want to call the MFC's missed goals. Keep pedanticising, Jontee.
  21. Remember they kicked 18 Behinds- straight kicking, game over...
  22. Adelaide actually played good footy in the first and last quarters - I've read so much criticism of them etc. They simply played a better organized team last night. Every Melbourne player put in last night - people have knocked Billings but he gave us some unnoticed crunch and bite, and had he kicked straight he would have been a hero. Petty is now starting to hum, Howes did his share, Windsor is a wonder, Sparrow, Neale-Bullen played their guts out and Van R held onto a few. It was an impressive win against a talented side which only a great defence like Melbouner has at the moment could have stopped.
  23. Che? Who, when? I'm not one-eyed - in fact I wear specs, but my jaw dropped about ten times when the Crows simply threw the bloody thing!
