The MCG precinct is not going to happen, way too many stakeholders and interested parties there. Caulfield option is a gift from the Gods. MFC should be throwing all their chips in for it otherwise its a life of couchsurfing for a long, long time.

Casey is in a population growth area. Any investment in sporting facilities will not be wasted and the community will get benefit out of it. Aren't Melbourne City of the A-League Soccer also setting up new facilities at Casey?
  6. This morning on SEN, Nathan Buckley was saying that the Dees are not a real premiership contender this season and Kane Cornes pulled him up on that and did point out they beat Collingwood recently and he said he is tired of the media disparaging the Demons ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Kane thinks the Dees are definitely in contention and can iron out some of their issues in the next 7 rounds ...

Melbourne v Carlton in the Barossa Valley. Could be called the 'Penfolds Challenge Cup'. Loser pays the other clubs cellar tab ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ˜
  8. Robbie Flower taught me to handball. He came along to a footy clinic at my primary school. Had a soft spot for the Dees ever since.

I agree with your mate ... if MFC have a period of sustained success with several flags, the Dees can move into the territory of support that C'Wood, Carlton, Essendon & Richmond have in time. We are in an another era of very large incoming migration to Melbourne and the Dees can be a beneficiary of that by tapping into new supporters as they have the cache of the 'Melbourne' name and the history of being the origin club of the game.

Yes, I too think drinking is ingrained in footy culture. I like to have a few beers at the footy. I usually get one before the start and another at half time. I don't see the point in going to live footy if you are constantly going to the bars for another beverage, althought the ubiquitous tv screens help keeping track of the game easier these days. I often watch the game in the standing areas (whether Marvel or MCG) with a beer in hand, reminds me of my soccer spectating roots. Ocassionally I do like to sit higher up in stands, as you get a better insight into the tactics and structures the teams employ. Just on the C'Wood supporters, occasionally there are normal ones, many are just loud, annoying and excessively one-eyed (but ultimately harmless). However, there is a minority of total morons, had the misfortune of being near some at the recent Carlton v. Collingwood and some imbeciles created a scene, police and security were invoved. Just no need for that kind of nonsense.

Someone here who watches all of Carlton's games ... TDK has some potential and shows flashes here and there but really has not shown enough yet to warrant a big contract. Carlton will not match any huge offers (say from Sydney) because frankly he is not worth it. As for Harry McKay, yes he currently has issues with his goal kicking but they can be worked on. His play around the ground has been quite good this season, his marking has been great, general field kicking fine, tackles and puts pressure on. He is also surprisingly fast for a tall player. He did try a few drop punts against Collingwood last week and did kick two so he may be on his way to fixing his set shot kicking yips. Two seasons ago when he won the Coleman he was used close to goals as a classic full forward so most of his goal kicking was from shorter ranges, he is being used differently now that Curnow is back from long term injury.

I think this relates to land inside the track? There is both MRC owned land and public land (including an existing Council oval) outside the track on the Western and Southern areas of the complex. I think the western boundary is MRC freehold land that is largely intended for apartment developments but there is still plenty of scope for an MFC facility at the southern (Glen Huntly) end if space on the land inside the track is not feasible due to being used for other purposes. Also they are talking about a 15 year timeframe to develop so current budgetary pressures may not be as much of an issue down the track.

Correct, but the animal is named after the "devil" so the team is, indirectly I guess ... so I see where Beetoota are coming from. Gave me a chuckle anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Fairly accurate summary methinks ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ˜Š
  16. Both Penfolds and Pepperjack have the same owner - Treasury Wine Estates, so not a real conflict I guess.

Currently I am reading "Grand Finals - Volume I" and the 1926 chapter says that many of the Premiership Demons of 1926 settled in South Eastern Melbourne and it mentioned Carnegie and Oakleigh and surrounds. Long time Bentleigh & East Bentleigh resident here (early years I did live in nearby Elsternwick & Ormond). Not only did the Demons own the Bentleigh Club and one of the local teams is called the Bentleigh Demons, one of the local high schools, McKinnon High School had links to MFC, it always had red & blue as its sporting colours and the school was constructed at the start of the Demons glory years of the 1950s (possibly that is why the red & blue was adopted as the school colours). Also Max Gawn went to McKinnon Secondary College. I went to Ormond East Primary School (now renamed McKinnon Primary School) and in the 1980s we used to have football clinics that were conducted by Demons players as we were in the Melbourne recruiting zone. Robbie Flower taught me how to handball ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ˜Ž Growing up in this part of Melbourne, it always felt like Melbourne and St Kilda (closeness to Moorabbin) were the 'local teams' with strong local support.

Initially slated for a 2025 opening but rumours that it may be a late 2024 opening. As already pointed out, it would be several years before a training facility was constructed even if it got the green light today.

When the new metro tunnel is completed in the the next 18 months or so, you will be able to do Arden Street Station or Parkville Station to Caulfield in about 20 minutes or less (direct). For those that say Caulfield is not central, the current demographic centre of Melbourne is located just a few kms north of Caulfield in neighbouring Malvern. https://blog.id.com.au/2018/population-forecasting/is-the-demographic-centre-of-melbourne-shifting/

Perhaps you are correct, but without a time machine, we will never know ๐Ÿ˜

Well now is the certainly the time to pull the trigger on Caulfield if that is the preferred option because the Racecourse is being redevloped, with or without MFC. It is now or never (for Caulfield). I say its a great location, not just becuase I am a short train ride away ๐Ÿ˜Ž It would certainly give the Dees a 'true home' and it would be in the old recruiting zone with its fan base relatively close by.

Not everyone makes the correct call 100% of the time. The Dees were bundled out of the finals last year relatively easily and the forward line had issues for a big chunk of the season, it needed something different to change course. Anyways, the lad made a pretty good debut against Sydney, well done ๐Ÿ‘

Looking forward to watching JVR in his debut. He should have been blooded in 1 or 2 games last season, better late than never.

When Sam Walsh and George Hewett are playing in midfield and when Harry McKay improves his kicking accuracy.
