I would entertain Dow without a doubt.

Remember that Carlton's weakness for a while was big bodied midfielders which in part pushed Dow out. (as well as the fact that he was inconsistent in his form). But I really think they didn't utilise his strengths and has been a bit lost as a player.

I can genuinely see a spot for him in our side as a compliment to our bull-at-a-gate midfield. He's got a burst of speed, great side-step and is composed when he feels comfortable at the level. And that's where I think we can come in. Celebrate his strengths, give him a role that really bring those strengths to our side and he'd flourish.

He'd also come on the cheap and for a former top 3 draft pick and new environment is exactly what he needs.

Im a bit the same, think he could be a lovely wingman as he is a nice ball user.

SEN said this morning that Freo are offering Pick 13 and F1, but want a second round in return. They can get farrked

Yep, i am all about being reasonable.. but there is no way in hell we should give up anything other than the player.

Something will get done and we will get roughly what we want.

The Eagles are just sitting and watching at the moment but may come hard.

If they split pick 2 for picks 5 & 7 from the Suns then suddenly they are right in the hunt.

I understand and its a good deal, but he isnt going to the Eagles. he is going to Freo.. and he will get there..

  4. the longer no one can give us a close idea of how this deal might get done i start to think we will accept unders for this and it will really really annoy me, hope im wrong. Talk this morning said Freo will want a second rounder back. Right now, id take a top 10 pick and next years first, that will be best case scenario. There is no way in hell we should give anything other than Jackson, however  dont think we are getting best case scenario.

Curious... Is getting "as fit as he ever has been", the same as being less injured, and less 'coming back' from injury?

I understand what you mean but im saying regardless of injury he needs a big pre season, one of our most important players and has to bounce back from the interruptions he had his season. It wasn't sinister.

    I like the intent @DeeZee

Actually Salem was probably the worst offender in 2022 for delivery to the forwards. Really disappointed that he kicked high cloud-bursting forward entries with no pinpoint accuracy or intent. He’s one player we need fit and firing and hitting targets.

He is the biggest watch for me next year.. never ever looked like the player he has been.. needs to get as fit as he ever has been.

  7. So as far I can tell:

    possible outgoings:

Jackson, Hunt, Bedford, Weid plus Mitch Brown, Rosman, Majak

    Possible incomings:

Grundy. 2 x picks from Freo.

I hope to god we are going to inject some new proven talent. But who and how? Good teams keep building their list, identify weakness and act on it. Are we doing that?

  8. Very well liked memeber of the club. He is not in our best 18 thats for sure. I just ahte seeing team first players leave. I hope he stays, but if he goes then thats life. Could Bedford turn into a running back? I doubt it. Salem Bowey Hibbo, May, Lever  Petty.

  9. Its hard not to get a bit agitated by all the noise about certain players and not much mention of us apart from Grundy. I have no reason to believe it as our recent history has been tight lipped and no leaks, but i sincerely hope we are looking at lots of players that might make us 10% better, i e Jack Gunston. He just seems like a logical fit, especially since Brown and McDonald are no certainties to be there in Round 1, and it could be JVR.. imagine the expertise and guidance he would have on the young fella.

I know our lot is in with our mid stars and they take up a fair chunk of money, but we cannot stand still. I think Grundy will be great, im ok with him, i think he will provide flexibility for us. But we still need to identify key areas, like foot skills, what i would give for a beautiful left footer that is an elite user of the ball, hopefully Salem can get fit and learn how to kick more than 20ms.

Anyway, time will tell, i just hope we learn from 2018 when we thought it was just going to happen the next year, we need improvements across teh whole club, style, fitness but for me its  attitude and skill.

Providing he's fit and ready to go Round 1 next year, I'm quite happy to give up a first rounder if they pay 300k pa of his salary.

We'll be a very dangerous proposition next year with a fit Grundy and Gawn.

I agree, i think whats getting lost in this is the price we will pay. Grundy has been durable, more durable that Max in fact and when up and going is a great weapon. The team will make it work, and its amazing cover for each ruckman as well, should one go down, and its a possibility we have a great ruckman that can carry the match. Max is not getting younger, the help will be a great asset.

This is what I’ve thought is the best case scenario (not what I agree with, and hopefully I’m wrong). It would be better than using the Dogga picks imo. First rounder is what I was told, from the Pies end, and I posted it, quite a while ago, for those who remember. Still hope it’s a 2nd rounder though.

Next years Draft is a really good crop, i dont reckon we want to be trading out of the first round..

My concern is that Chandler racks up big numbers because he plays midfield. He won't at AFL level.

It feels like we are back at the stage we were a few years ago, where guys go back to the VFL and play out of position compared to where they would play in the AFL. It happened with JKH all the time

These guys are not kicking out any of the big players in our midfield rotation,  their first steps are to break into the side,  they need to put pressure on ANB Spargo, Sparrow, Jordan.. and frankly,  Goodwin and Co have to reward these guys.

Hypothetical trade: 3 suitors for Bedford, Essendon the keenest (assumption based only on media tittle tattle)  and so we trade him in exchange for their 3 round pick and a swap of 2nd round picks - then on trading their current 2nd round pick  (22/23) for Grundy. Thoughts? Could that get it done? Would it be a fair trade for all parties?

Yep, i might be in the minority, i just dont think Bedford is a senior AFL footballer. I would be more than happy to trade him if it allowed some other trades to happen. Bedford wont come back to haunt us, i believe anyway. Chandler is a more well rounded player.

  14. The set up of our defence will be just as interesting as our fwd line next season in my opinion. The elephant in the room might be Jake Lever if teams continue to play against us as they did, his season while interrupted was pretty poor, not a player in the competition relies more on the team playing the way Melbourne do and holding the opposition up. We didnt do that last half of the season.. he was rendered useless at times.

In saying that,  i still think Grundy will be a good addition.

  15. 16 minutes ago, Fat Tony said:

He has kicked only 60 goals in 177 games. He’s a very good player - in the ruck. But he’s not a good forward. And we already have a great ruckman who is an average key forward. Grundy or Gawn will be in the forward line for 60% of the game.

i agree with that, i was more leaning towards what are we getting with Gundy v what we are losing with Jackson.. and its not much in my opinion.

Do agree with the Fwd conundrum though..  time will tell and i think we will get a good look at it.

A fit Grundy is probably a top 30 player in the competition but we are the one club in the afl that could add him to our list and not get any improvement to our best 22. Is a Gawn/Grundy pairing better than Gawn/TMac? Definitely better in the ruck but definitely worse resting forward.

I would say definitively Grundy will offer more than Jackson did in the ruck, and around the ground, and possibly more than Jackson did if he goes fwd.

  17. What if.. and here me out here, Grundy is a great pick up, has a burning desire to resume as a great ruckman and prove the footy world wrong. with this year the first since 2014 that he played less than 19 games for the season.. so for a ruckman.. pretty durable.. in fact

    Brodie - games since 20014-2022 = 170

    Max - games since 2014-2022 = 164

his 6 games this year he averaged 16.8 disposals and 30 hit outs..

Max for the season -18.9 disposals and 27 hitouts..

    Both are extremely endurable athletes

The average wage in AFL is around $400k or a bit under. we pay him $750 per year for 5.. say we get 3 great years out of him, and a couple where he is slowing down and allows the junior ruckman to progress when the average wage has gone up significantly.

I think its a calculated decision to recruit him. Yep, we might give up a high pick, but sometimes that's ok, we have young talent, Grundy is a proven acquisition.

Sam Edmund is one of the most reliable ones in my opinion.

Gee the media bashing on here is silly sometimes and this kind of name calling doesn't help your case.

Sorry Lord Nev, i will agree to disagree here, i cant stand the majority of them. Sam, might be a lovely bloke, and good at his job most of the times, but they are the most unaccountable people you can come across. They say, they write whatever they like and no one will ever know if its true or not, and they simply say their information changed. Shocking profession.

  19. Lol.. Edmund et al will just say whatever they like at this time of the year with zero accountability or real facts. Of Course Port will ask the question, reckon every side will.

And how in the heck would he know that Kozzy doesn't love Melbourne..  I mean, who would tell him that.. oh I know.. Port Adelaide

AFL Germilists are bad most of the time, but at this time of year.. its peak season for which tree wants to be the highest in the forest of F/wits

  20. As i have said all along, its 2 first rounders from Freo and a one of those as high as top 5/6. Lachy Reid reporting 2 firsts and an exchange of later picks. It will be Freo.

    My thinking is:

later first rounder for Grundy - I'm ok with that, i think Grundy will be very good and really keen to show the world. Think some have forgotten what he can offer, He will be fit and firing.

Possibly give those 2 picks to West coast for Pick 2 or first pick maybe 5/6/7/8 split in 2 with another side to get 2 first rounders12-18 range and add Grundy for Jackson.

  21. Im so over it now and while i think its a hard decision for a young bloke and the money is going to be too good to refuse, i cant help but think it was one of a number of things that derailed our season.

Its really disappointing though..  Draftees should be signed to 4 year contracts when drafted.
