POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs Carlton
A significant number of children grow up with a desire to play AFL so those playing for modest sums have fulfilled a life long ambition, so they calculate that certain sacrifices are worth it. These are your "other reasons". I don't think many children grow up with a lifelong ambition to be an AFL umpire. I'm not saying umpiring can't be rewarding but "other reasons" don't apply in anything like the same way.

You'd need to pay them a lot though, at least the same as the highest paid players, because they will be sacrificing their best years of career development umpiring - and what then? Those accountants and physiotherapists can go on doing that work beyond their involvement in football because they've been building their career. Players have club sponsored job opportunities beyond football.

I'll let @WheeloRatings give the definitive answer but I imagine the simulations use the Team Ratings as a basis, including for finals (which in each season simulation will have finalists allocated based on H&A results) and that's how the results are calculated. Currently we have the highest overall Team Rating, 1st for Defence and 3rd for Attack.

JvR is the Round 12 Rising Star …
So he's not worthy of a rising star in his best game so far, but in two years he'll be almost impossible to play against?

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Really looking forward to next week. We played the brand we think wins finals last night and we're priming ourselves for September, unlike last year when we were broken and couldn't score. This match will be a good entree but not the main course. Don't forget that Collingwood failed in last year's finals too. Their method is not a proven finals product.

Agree we absolutely killed them everywhere except conversion. Yes McKay got the better of Tommo but that enabled May to murder Curnow and Lever to intercept. Joel Smith enabled JVR and Max to get clear up forward. All around it was a dominant performance. 27 shots from 59 i50s vs 16 from 39. That's a kill.
