Player exodus? I know one little fella who is stuck there for 6 years...
-
Very well against poor sides and games we dominate. And pathetic, by his standards, against better teams. Jones, apparently not as prolific a possession gatherer as Moloney finished with only 2 possessions less than Moloney last season because of the fact that Moloney was 'the little girl with a curl.'
-
I can't believe people are fighting so hard to 'explain away' to disturbing discrepancy between Moloney's best games and his worst games. The guy goes missing when you need him the most. If he doesn't know that I am sure someone at the club will soon tell him. Oh, and comparing him to a dominant force like Judd and Bradman is disingenuous. They are a buttress, a pillar to rely on - Moloney is not that dominant force. He's just a 'battler' as Macca has stipulated. (Except in the clearances where he is near elite). Judd 2011 W: 28.4 L: 22.9 Judd 2010 W: 26.8 L: 27.1 Judd 2009 W: 26.9 L: 25.9

Ah, no. It's getting more stark. 2011 Wins: 28.5 Losses: 19.5 2010 Wins: 26.6 Losses: 21.3 Jones 2011 W: 23.8 L: 23.3 Trengove 2011 W: 20.6 L: 19.9 BTW, Davey and Green are not great in this field either, I will put their spreads in the appropriate threads later.
-
Love Beamer, but he averaged 9 touches less in losses than in wins. In 2010 he averaged 5 touches less. In 2010 and 2011 Jones averaged half a touch less in losses than in wins. BRFE is on the mark here. We are not burning him at the stake - we are asking more from arguably our best player.

How does 'to be fair' apply to that sentence? And, rpfc will make a great coach. Let's not kid around with that. How was I settling on that? I gave rhetorical questions about the fact that Watts needs to improve on his physicality, and ten good games last year. Of course, he needs to improve in 2012, but 2012 hasn't happened yet, all that has happened is 2011 - when he, from a slow start, powered through the middle of the year and finished 9th in the best and fairest. Who saw that coming? Hell, C&B likened him to a woman in the early rounds of 2011 and now he is forever taking a speccie in his signature... On exposed form, we have reason to be pleased with how Watts is progressing and not alluding to a disappointing 2011 - he didn't have one. Well, rpfc isn't a nuff-nuff, and nor is he unwilling to criticise players who deserve it. I don't think many on this forum would forget the rants concerning the Leadership Group of 2011... So I think you have to put away that chestnut about 'rose coloured glasses'... Considering you have labelled him to become either a 'good number one pick' of an 'elite number one pick' he isn't another 'player who has played 50 games' is he? Your expectations of him are probably so high because of that fact and that is entirely understandable - we see Gibbs and Murphy and Nik Nat and we won't him to hurry up but shifting the goalposts is unfair. He is expected to do more in 2012 than he did in 2011 but he gave every indication in 2011 that his game will continue to progress in the areas of consistency and physicality.

For me, this sounds like Neeld is walking back expectations on Sellar. If he is to end up somewhere consistently, it will be in the back line. Playing where in the setup? Well, I have said my piece on that but if he is a 'swingman' then it lends itself to Frawley staying as our number one back for 2012.

I am happy with what's said in that article. It affirms Jack's training habits, his future as the tall forward few people thought he could be only 12 months ago, his position as a foil for Clark, and mentions, for a third of the article, the 'leaders' from last year and the expectations on them. We all want to read alot into a short article in The Age but it mentions Sellar and the 'leaders' from last year as much as Jack, so I don't think this is Neeld 'holding Watts' feet to the fire.'

Yeah, those rants weren't about preparation... They were more about entities having a boundless confidence borne out of nothing but never questioned. Point: We have very little confidence in our club and those that run it, sometimes with good reason, but more often that not - with no reason at all. (These are the clift notes of what I was ranting about)
-
Because you could manipulate the draft picks by tanking and getting pick 3, 4 and 12 or whatever. Has to be decided before the season. It's the right move.
-
Ok, so at least you know what I am talking about... Some on here think you can grade all players by saying the best 40 are A, the second 40 B+, the third 40 B, etc. but that makes little sense as a rudimentary, if subjective, analysis tells us that there are more 'B' players in the AFL than A players. I would love for someone to run a ranking graph based on Supercoach prices (for lack of an easier measure). I will have a look around the site later and see what can be done but I assume a few really expensive players, a few rookies and a great deal of average players.

My unsubstantiated judgments aside, I think what we 'want' and what we 'can get' is obviously too below market for Schwab to agree to. I am substantiating that on the fact that we haven't signed anyone yet. If we are to compete - hundreds of thousands of dollars a year is important. I am substantiating that on the priciple of 'Get Rich or Die Tryin.' We shouldn't have the 'sale' too early. I am substantiating that on the Australian Retail Outlook 2012 - a comprehensive guide to Australian retailing in 2012. (IWPAEIHIIUE)

I am pretty sure Bazza isn't privvy to sponsorship discussions so it really isn't our place to make a judgement over the price we want right now and the price we can easily get.
-
Yeah, if we don't get a good deal soon I would be going and getting Oxfam or World Vision and giving them the badge for free for half the season, get some goodwill and publicity, keeping with our core values blah, blah, blah then having an extravagant 'Sponsor unveiling' where the company gives $250k to the charity it has taken over from, handshakes all around and... scene.

We have no-one that is elite. Maybe Jamar. PA have no-one. GC have one. GWS have none. You can't judge it like that. Collingwood have Pendlebury, Swan, Cloke, and I am missing a couple here. Geelong: Bartel, Selwood, Johnson, and a couple others that may not be in their league but are above our league (Corey, Enright). StK: Riewoldt, Goddard, Dal Santo, Montagna all better than our best, all probably elite. Hawks: Mitchell, Hodge, Franklin, Sewell. So, yeah, around the 30 players mark, but no Melbourne player in sight I would think, nor PA, GWS, WB, Tiges, NM, and BL. You have to grade every single player in the league and that would lead to a bell curve. If we use supercoach prices as a rough indicator I am sure there will be a few at the top a few rookies at the bottom and a whole glut of player in the average range. Bell Curve.
-
Oh, Watts needs to improve on the ten good games he played last year?! He needs to improve his physicality?! You get frustrated by the MFC's 'soft' supporters? I get frustrated with those supporters who shift the goalposts for this team and its players. Watts had a good 2011, a number of supporters didn't think it would be as good as it was. But here we are and they can't see the forest for the trees. Why don't we keep the fire on the feet of those who actually didn't live up to expectations last year: Green, Davey, Petterd, the midfield as a whole, Moloney against decent teams, etc. This desire to keep Watts 'dancing' (that is a reference to shooting bullets at his feet) is getting tiresome for all concerned. Let's see how he reacts to the new FD and the preseason and actually wait until April to cast judgement.

You can't judge it like that, it has to be on a 'bell curve' that would have a few at the elite status, a few at the awful status, and a glut of average players. Hence a bell curve. Therefore, you have to find a measurment and judge players accordingly. It would just be a subjective analysis anyway, and that is what we have here - people's personal opinions. It would be great if we could find an objective measure or statistic to rate all players but it doesn't exist. There are about 20 elite players in my book, about 3 more at most clubs would be A grade, etc. But that is my subjective opinion.

Collingwood annoyed at Neelds early departure
rpfc replied to Deetective Sgt. Taggert's topic in Melbourne Demons
Malthouse told him "You are the coach of another club" and that's why he can't stay around. It's difficult for clubs to lose coaches at that stage, but that is life. As soon as Neeld was told by Schwab his life changed and as an MFC supporter I'm glad he focussed wholly on the future of my club rather than the next few weeks of a job he used to have. -
And so it is written - his attack on the ball will now be beyond reproach! The mighty anti-oracle has spoken!

Well, here is my nitpick from the AoB argument - I think Sellar is more suited to coming in and doing Rivers' job than Frawleys. So I agree with you on the competition for places argument but I just see the jump between doing what Rivers was doing (taking the 2nd tall for better or worse) and doing what Frawley was doing (taking The Forward) was too great. If I could give the likelihood of Rivers becoming a third tall and Frawley becoming a third tall, I would say that Rivers being third tall is more likely.

To make an announcement, we need something to announce. At the moment? Not so much...
-
Well whatever colour it is, it will look completely different in person than on the TV...
-
Yes, I remember a training thread where AoB went through this. It's predicated on Sellar being something he has shown very little evidence of being, and on Frawley becoming a third tall in our backline and I don't think that will happen. I hope Sellar and Rivers can turn Frawley into a third tall but I don't see it happening. And as amorphous as backlines are these days - to beat the best, you are going to have to have your best tall backs play on their best forwards so that the five times they get a one-on-one in a tight game they don't get thrown around as their bloke kicks 4.1.

No way? They are the same person? That's disengenuous if true.

It is when you are the individual...(I would put an emoticon here if I used emoticons, I am going to change this to the acronym IWPAEHIIUE to save time, and to start a trend!)
