Mate, when I have given names in the past I get smashed when the deal does not eventuate.  In this case I have sworn to secrecy on the contracted KPF we have targeted since mid-season.

Don’t expect a name, just a few more details rather than the current “the sun will come up tomorrow” prediction. Otherwise, there is no point saying anything at all.

I am hearing Tomlinson want out but no suitors at our asking price.  We want to keep him.  Saying that it's still possible as part of KPF deal we are trying to manufacture.

I have heard nothing on Hunter and thus probably a dead deal.

Jesse Hogan coming home, given GWS targeting Cadman?

just need to put a little more detail on the table, or otherwise you are just trying to create the appearance of having connections.

You are quite comfortably one of the worst posters on Demonland. Congratulations, Big Brain.

Let's lock in an untried senior assistant to take over from our 2021 premiership coach.

This sort of nonsense belongs on Facebook.

    “Big brain”

shows huge intelligence to react like that to someone that has a different opinion to you.

    Good for you.

Give me Trac, Oliver and Gawn and I'd give the top 4 a fair shake as coach

    Agree.

Goody wouldn’t make the top 8 of current AFL coaches IMO.

most people here plus some board members wanted him sacked pre R1 2021. He wins a flag, with an amazing list, one of the worlds greatest fitness guru’s, an assistant who should already be a senior coach, and suddenly his position is locked in for years. Doesn’t make sense to me.

We should really capitalise on Yze missing out on the Ess job, by locking him into a sucession plan. Was interesting that Trac emphasised his appreciation for Yze’s coaching efforts well above anyone else in his runners up B&F speech.

Ramifications of Goodwin not playing players, that IMO deserved a better go. Disappointed to see him go, Goody can’t keep playing favourites

Seeing ANB come 8th in the B&F this year, would be enough to make anyone competing for his position want to depart.

I think we try trade our 2nd round selection (32) with Bedford for GWS 2nd round selection (21)

Works out to roughly pick 49 for Bedford which i think is fair.

Fair based on the amount he has played.

But an absolute waste from an MFC perspective. Develop him up for a few years, to then not give him a decent opportunity when he is ready for AFL is a real head scratcher for me.

Seem to work pretty well in 2021 and allowed us to get 2nd this year, so I would say your comment that it doesn’t work is completely wrong

It worked in 2021 partly because one of the best fitness boss’ in the world had us trained to the second. We were fittest in the league by a large margin come finals time 2021. Make no mistake, that was a critical ingredient in why we won the flag.

It didn’t work in the second half of this year, and we only came 2nd due to the 10-0 start.

when we are not at an elite level of fitness, carrying injuries or whatever, the plan just doesn’t work.

Can Selwyn replicate Burgess’ success. Time will tell.

I agree the time is now and I think with the addition of Grundy, return of TMac and rise of JVR we're OK for tall forward targets over the next two years.

There's no better options currently on the market unless you want to offer McStay 6 years.

Ideally we'll draft a KPF prospect and line up a big FA or trade for 2025 so we can continue the Dynasty through to the end of the decade.

Sorry I mis-understood. Yes, agree with what you are saying.

With Max and Grundy next year, and TMac and Ben Brown will play a fair amount of footy too, we're well set for the tall target inside 50 who won't be outmarked. Add Fritsch and JVR and we have a full complement of tall forwards over the next two years.

We need to be looking 3 years down the track to the 2025 season. Draft a KPF this year (my intuition is we're trying to move up the order to do so) and position ourselves for a big fish trade, e.g. Naughton, at the end of 2024  by freeing salary cap.

This doesn’t make sense. 2023 and 2024 will potentially be our best chances for flags in the next 5-10 years. The time is now, not 2025!

Also we cant plan on the basis that a) BB + TMac will be consistently fit    and/or     b) that their form warrants them being consistently picked to play.

Closest to the pin for newspaper headline when the trade is completed?

    "Grun-dee"

    "It's a Grun deal"

    "Unicorn out, pony in"

All horrible but you can't win if you don't buy a ticket..

    They are not that smart.

    my guess is

“Potential star out, All-Australian star in”

What if we now say that we’ve gone cool on the idea!! Imagine the magpie panic !! They’ve committed to DEGOEY and MCSTAY. I think Dees will drive a tough deal. No first round draft pick conversation to be had. It’s Grundy for pick 32 and Pies pay 1/3 of his contract for the next 5 years (aka salary dump $600k a year on us).

Of course, I’m still puzzled how the Grundy-Gawn combo works. Lots to work through. Some strategies are a real rotation and a forward-half back-half zone type strategy is mooted. Maybe Maxy is struggling with an injury and needs real support for ongoing physical relief.  Not sure.

Max can provide some amazing silver service in the ruck. But on the whole I don’t think we capitalise on his time in the middle as much as we should.

His marking around the ground is a real weapon (when not 1 on 5). So my guess would be Grundy more time ruck, Max a combination of forward and copying Geel strategy this year of ruckman pushing back to increase the chances of an intercept mark.

Two other advantages I can see are

    1) We would really capitalise when the main oppo ruckman is having a rest, and coming up against the part-timer

    2) We would have great match-up flexibility to switch Max & Grundy ruck/back/fwd depending on the opponent and their weaknesses/strengths

No offence, but "grain of salt" is all I can take from that.

Your mate is thinking of the Grundy under Buckley, where their midfield (including Grundy) racked up huge possessions because they were indirect. Grundy's numbers dropped this year under McCrae before he got injured. His average marks was 2.5, the lowest since his 2nd season. He kicked 2 goals in 6 games. As a comparison, Darcy Cameron averaged 3.8 marks, and kicked 20 goals in 24 games.  Grundy obviously averaged more hitouts because he was the primary ruck, but Cameron shared the ruck duties with Cox, and they lost nothing in hitout numbers without Grundy.

Give me a Darcy Cameron type as 2nd ruck to Max than Grundy every time.

And note, the Pies have beaten us the past 3 times without Grundy.

The biggest part of all of this, that doesn’t get mentioned enough is Darcy Cameron is potentially the most under-rated ruck man in the comp. He is a ripper, and it is not hard to see why McRae wants to back him in as number 1 ruck next year (and use Grundy’s cash to fill other gaps)

The indigenous players' version of events, or ''their story'' as I keep reading on here, need to be fully tested.

There seems to be a presumption that their accounts are beyond scrutiny and are to be accepted as fact.  This doesn't sit well with me.

I look forward to seeing how these accusations play out with both parties having a fully transparent and fair hearing.

Exactly. People are forgetting how important context is in regards to the allegations. This context, thus far hasn’t been provided to the public.

There is certain context that I don’t wish to speculate on, that would shift certain allegations away from being racist, and also provide some much needed explanation for people who are shocked by the current one-sided account of things.

Without doubt this country (and the AFL) has a problem with racism that needs to be addressed. But this point alone doesn’t mean we throw people in the bin, without a fair process of investigation.

And I'd rather be paid a million dollars a year in my job ..... but my past actions and performances have suggested to my employer that doing that would be a terrible idea. It's the same with Collingwood and de Goey.

I assume that de Goey is thinking that someone is desperate enough that they will pay him a contract without the behavioural clauses (probably St Kilda, if history is anything to go by) and then make Collingwood decide to match that contract (without the clauses) or let him go. The really interesting bit will be if Collingwood matches the contract or not.

Could well be right. Maybe willing to push Coll to remove the conditions. And if they don’t, he is happy to accept one of the other offers.

Maybe he is also acknowledging within himself that he has un-resolved issues, and cant guarantee he will become a saint (pardon the pun) overnight.

The perceived injustices meted out to Jordan de Goey is a strange hill to die on.

Didn’t say that Axis. No doubt he has made poor decisions in the past, and deserved to pay the price for them.

I am saying moving forward, can understand why he doesn’t want to have additional clauses vs all other AFL players, when everyone will be watching his every move.

  16. De Goey has made the right call. In today’s hysterical world, it is too easy for a social media bandit to take a picture of him, alleging “behavioural issues” and next minute he is front page of the HS and sacked.

Example 1:   A.Clarkson. 99% of people have written him off, and want him sacked. My guess is more than likely he doesn’t deserve to be sacked. Watch this space.

How can anyone believe what is written without  attribution

if this is not a legal court it is an open kangaroo court, everyone seems to accepts the coaches are guilty.
there will be some truth perhaps but only perhaps.

but very little is said about any rebuttal and without giving the accusers names it might be BS.  Being able to take legal action later Is not a substitute. .

the reporters should have reported both sides of the storey .
it’s like I know what numbers are up for lotto next week   And I have no like or dislike for those accused but it is not fair !

Now bags of little white powder, I can decide for myself the probability.

Well said. The early “trial by public” is a huge problem in today’s social media driven world.

Not defending anyone here, if they are guilty, then they deserve every minute of whatever coaching ban comes their way.

But everyone needs to take a chill pill for at least a month, maybe 2. Then come back and assess things when we know more details.

I hear we were banged up. I recall we had a bye pre finals. I hear goody in the presser say all teams carry injuries and that we have been inconsistent for some time now. I recall our inconsistencies started some time ago and coincided with tmac getting injured and our forward structure not recovering sufficiently. I continue to listen with interest to reports of players having surgery, but as yet I have heard none.

Might not be listening hard enough then. Viney had surgery on his eye! Affected his vision the last few games. Brown surgery on the knee. Lever I assume? Tom Mac going in again?

Won’t be our problem, but there was talk LJ would need surgery on the knee.

For some others that don’t need surgery that doesn’t mean they weren’t injured at a level where they potentially shouldn’t have been playing.

at this time of the year, hope springs eternal!

the mfcss will kick in with the first report of 'player x is on restricted duties as the dees return to the track'

Remember when we were at or near the bottom of the ladder. Start of pre-season there would be a report of some player training the house down, and we somehow thought this would turn us into a contender the following year.

You have 100% perfectly summed up what wins finals, and in reality what wins any game between decent sides. And also summed up how we failed this year.

Good thing is, in theory these things should be easier to fix than other problems (like huge talent gaps). Our players have shown they are capable before,  but are they prepared to go to the level required to do it again?

I hope our FD have also reviewed how Geel were at their best for the most important day.

Kept their players fresh, by resting them when they needed it. Danger had a month or so off for a mid season fitness block, and look how fresh and good he was yesterday.

We did the exact opposite. Kept playing injured or tired players, despite having capable VFL depth.
