  1. I've changed my mind re drafting Cadman this year, especially with the news that Grundy is more than likely to be with us next year. And whilst I agree that Max is not a forward, I understand the importance of prolonging his career at his age given how well he plays his position. I'd rather Max play more forward-time in the hope that we get consistently high level ruck service from him over the next 2-4 years as opposed to flogging him in the ruck for most of a game and risking him falling off the cliff within 2 years. So given the likelihood of a 'Max at Full Forward' situation next year, our forwardline will need a facelift. Which brings me to Sheezel. I'd be doing everything we can to move up the draft/acquire the pick that will likely land him through the Jackson trade. He is absolute class, I watched the TAC cup grand final and he is what we're crying out for to play that half-forward connector role or even a pocket in his first year. Our ability to turn inside 50's into scoring opportunities is our biggest issue imo and Sheezel's ball use, vision and ability to turn non-opportunities into scoring chances can't be understated. He's exactly the player we're crying out for and has the ability to move into the midfield in time. Sheezel and Konstanty would compliment our forwardline nicely. Konstanty is a small forward with an appetite to defend and he possesses great agility and forward craft. So the forwardline would look like the following (when Gawn is resting forward): Konstanty Gawn Fritsch Pickett JVR Sheezel Int forwards: Brown and Spargo/Chandler * I've left T mac out because I can't see him playing first quarter of the season after this op, maybe more. That forwardline just excites so much more. I think it cause so many more headaches for oppo given the damage those players can have with minimal touches. Sheezel and Pickett's ball use, speed and touch is scary and would give so much more confidence to leading forwards like Fritsch and Brown who rely on quality ball. I just think there's so much scope with a forwardline like that. The only knock is that we wouldn't have ANB's running capacity but I really think that can be covered for given he rarely impacts when around the ball anyway. He's either getting caught or fumbling most of the time which just cancels out all his hard work getting up the ground. Make it happen. I'd do anything to see Sheezel running around for us next year.
  2. Bedford is not the answer for us. He's another that is just too inconsistent at AFL level. Elite speed but goes missing and questionable foot skills. I don't see how he improves our forwardline going into next year. Chandler is much more well rounded and whilst doesn't have the pace he has Bedord covered in just about every other facet.
  3. Lloyd Meek will not want to come to us if we're getting Grundy. He wants regular senior footy.
  4. Harmes' inability to be consistent in his play from week to week makes him incredibly frustrating to watch. We just need more reliable role players who do the basics to a high level consistently. I'd just much rather a less contested player who is clean and uses the ball well than a player who is a bit of an all rounder but doesn't do anything especially well consistently.
  5. Why would the feedback be [censored]? Goody wasn't happy that May went against the coaches moves. That better?
  6. Oh Jaded. Is it that unbelievable that when you're down and out in a semi final with five minutes to go, one of your leaders would send a key position player forward to try and win the game? I don't think it is.
  7. Thought I'd share something I heard today as this is a Melbourne supporter fan forum after all. Hopefully saty has me on ignore cause this will ruin his week. My old man is mates with a bloke who catches up with May regularly, (won't say why because we all want to remain anonymous here). They caught up after the Semi and May mentioned that he'd had a stern talking to from Goody due to going against team rules for two reasons. One was with kick-outs when he stopped kicking long to Gawn due to trying to win the game late. And second, when he sent Petty forward. Yes, Petty went forward under May's instruction. Was in trouble for both. Take it with a you know what, thought I'd share.
  8. Well two years after the Treloar fiasco they were 1 point away from a GF so it can't be that bad. And with Grundy gone for them, they'll have further room for exploration and the ability to retain some other players. Bad calls at the time of both Treloar and Grundy's deals but it's hard to fault their ability to rebound. Their list is in a very good spot.
  9. We simply need to add to our list if we want a top four spot next year so I'm intrigued to see what we do this trade period. Significant growth will no longer come from our core who are entering their prime and Max, May, T Mac, BB will all be on the decline. We have a window of crazy opportunity whilst our more senior players are still in strong form. And I think it's time to make some tough calls on roles to Harmes, Hunt, Sparrow, Jordan, and ANB. I'd like some more dynamic players added to those positions and players who display attributes that compliment those of our core. Foot skills, composure, speed. Needs to happen, Sydney, Collingwood, Brisbane and Carlton are not going away. And then there's a whole host of sides who will see big growth from their younger brigade. We need to be aggressive.
  10. They can still laugh at us. We didn't have Covid to deal with.. We were just a genuine basket case with no excuse!
  11. You share because some may be interested? Lol. It says far more about the person you are, behind that little alias, who would go out of their way to share an Andrew Bolt article on a football forum to get a 'response'. You must feel so good about yourself big boy. Congrats on being a [censored] of a poster, Prodee.
  12. He could improve it. But only marginally. Every player that comes into the system is programmed somewhat with a skill set as well as a mindset. Fritsch's first instinct post contest is not to defend and never has been. And once you come into the AFL system it's hard to change those habits to any significant degree. Because it's too programmed. Pickett on the other hand is exactly the opposite. His first instinct post contest is to defend like his life depends on it.
  13. Disagree. Sure straight-line running he can't burn an opponent in the way Toby does but he has him covered in about every other facet of the game. And his pressure is fantastic. You watching the game? It's a GF. See that tackle then? lol And clean hands? You've lost the plot, he's on another level to the rest in the wet. He has been emergency almost all year, Goodwin made minimal changes all year. His form was seemingly irrelevant this year in Goodwin's eyes.
  14. Wouldn't mind Weed moving on for other opportunities and we can open up a spot. I know he has a year to run but surely someone would take him. He's just so out of sync going for his marks. Can't seem to time a jump, can't one-grab or out-body smaller opponents even at this level.
  15. Good luck with that. He will never bridge the gap so relying on that especially over one summer is a pipe-dream. Replacing ANB is something I'd love to see going forward. I just don't see his value now. He's been in the system for a long time and his forward craft is average at best. Forward craft is too important and you want to see incremental improvement with these guys, not one good year one poor. I'd have Chandler ahead of him in an instant.
  16. And a goal saving smother to top off my post.
  17. Chandler just a class above. Clean, hard, smart, competitive and most importantly his ball use and in these conditions has been unbelievable. Thought the entire year he was stiff not to get a gig and trialled ahead of a few underperformers and again that's something Goody needs to look at over the off-season. His refusal to be dynamic as a coach.
  18. The pies made a granny in 2018, a Prelim in '19 and a semi in' 20. The idea that their list is less developed or worse than ours is a furphy. They have far better balance across their list and they are a much better ball movement side because of this. They can move the ball the way they do because of their list and not their coach. We've implemented a game-plan that is suited to our list's strengths so if we want that to change, list changes and positions will need to also be changed.
  19. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment. I know the differences. Just pointing out that Max is fallible as are our coaches and whether he was at the meeting or not doesn't really matter. Clearly Max would love the idea of playing in tandem with the second best ruck in the comp (when fit).
  20. It's not Max's call anyway, as we know. And it doesn't matter what forward-line we have if our game-plan and therefore ball-movement strategy remains the same. Another thing posters are forgetting is that our bull-at-a-gate midfielders need further education and practice on how to take an extra step or two from a centre square break or stoppage in order to execute a better weighted kick going inside 50. This is of equal importance to all other factors contributing to our forward-connection problem. Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney are all culprits and simply need to cut out half of those bomb it in kicks they make when they've got more time than they think to take that extra step or two. This is why I think it's just as important to bring in either an established player or two through the middle of the ground or hit the draft and grab Sheezel and/or some other players who can really balance us out. It doesn't actually matter who we bring in to our forwardline if these issues aren't strongly addressed and corrected.
  21. Max also had a say in recruiting Lachie Filipovic and thought he'd be great. He was a monumental fail. Just sayin'.
