    Does anyone believe that?

Kids didn't suddenly discover that sometimes people punch each other because of Tom Lynch.

Nor is a junior coach suddenly going to decide to tell his players to punch the opposition. Just isn't going to happen.

The 'won't somebody think of the children' routine isn't a real problem.

100% happens, I used to umpire junior footy 10 years ago and the kids would say "the players on tv do it", these kids were 12-16 and thought it jumper punches and tummy taps were just apart the game.

I reckon the penalty of reversing a free kick for an indiscretion  is too severe. It's really like 2 free kicks in one. The side loses the distance they were going to achieve PLUS the other side gets the benefit of a kick.

It's often given for very minor offences, and can change a game ,...e.g.  Carlton's lucky win against Freo.

A more logical penalty would be to just ball it up.  That would be equivalent to the normal penalty for a rule infraction...i.e. one free kick( in this case , loss of a free kick).

    What do other Demonlanders think?

The Carlton free kick against Freo was 100% there. You can't dump a player after a kick no matter what.

They want to stomp out players hitting each other (unless they are named tom lynch) so kids don't do it at junior level.

Just wish they would do this stuff from the start of the season rather than changing "interpretations" mid way through the season

"I think a change is required. Clearly the deterrent of fines is not stopping on-field punching in various forms and we want to stamp that out," he said.

"It's unusual (to make rule changes mid-season), but we're going to. We don't want punching to continue. We're unequivocal about that and we'll make that really clear to the players and clubs.

"We'll make a change that gives the MRP the right equipment in their classification to ensure sanctions are now matches compared to fines."

AFL to suspend players for gut, jumper punches

    This was 3 years ago...

The AFL didnt stick to it, they are soft on their own stands.

It does have some merit over the next few weeks.  Hannan would probably be the better option for Jones though if we need a step up in pace and pressure inside 50.  Hunt averages the most tackles inside 50 when in the team but Hannan is the next best available here outside of those who played against the Pies.  Hannan also averages 1 goal a match vs Hunt 0.3 and a few more score involvements than Hunt... 3.9 vs 1.7 bringing others into the game.

Hannan also pushes a little higher up the ground at times, hopefully dragging his opponent away from the arc and creating a bit more space for others like Weid to lead in to.  Whereas Hunt is more a deep starting forward and might crowd out that area for the bigger fellas (Weid & T-Mac) and his inclusion might blow up a good thing we have at present.

I'm a huge Hannan fan so either would suit me.

I like Rivers too, but unsure who he could come in for

I think we need to bring in some speed against the Dogs and Saints.

Would be looking at Hunt, Bennell or Rivers in for Jones, Sparrow or Tomlinson. Although maybe only 1 or 2 of these changes.

Gawn for Pruess if he is 100% fit.

Would also not mind Bedford for Pickett as he isn't doing enough to be a lock.

I do have a concern that Jones will look slow these next two weeks against two very face paced teams.

Surely Hunt could play a similar role.

its ok, no offence is intended.  'Broken' was Jones' comment about the captaincy: "I think physically I always felt like I was capable, (but) I think last year really broke me down mentally and come the end of the season I just had a lot to think about."

He looks a happy man now.

Hopefully he is enjoying what should/could/will probably be his last year of afl football.

I'd like to know if there was a free kick paid for Spargo's Dangerous Tackle. If it wasn't paid/deemed dangerous on the night, not sure how it can be deemed dangerous two days later.

Because umpires miss things all the time, like striking off the ball - they still get reprimanded after the fact when the games reviewed

Did anyone see either of these occur?

I feel like sometimes these just come up out of nowhere.

I wish they would time stamp the incidents so you could go and look them up.
I remember seeing one tackle in the game that could have been dangerous as I remember wondering if it was going to be a free kick. It wasn't but I cant remember who the tackler was, maybe it was Spargo

Something to ponder; the Dogs have probably found some form after smashing the Crows, especially the mids. If Gawn plays, he’ll no doubt dominate hit outs and it’ll cause some real predictably at the stoppages. The Dogs mids will just look to shark his taps and they won’t even bother reading English’s. I still think Gawn plays if he’s fit, but I just hope the connection between him and our mids is there on Saturday.

If hes not fit I'm down for a Pruess V English battle

  10. Very happy with what he has shown this year and our forward line looks so much better since he has been there.

Unfortunately against the Pies, we saw 2 maybe 3 incidents where TMac and Sam both ran to the same space/contest and both launched at it rather than one staying down.
I hope they can work this out so we can put on even more pressure and lock it into our forward 50 if not clunking them.

  11. Theres a few players I'd like to see back in the side

    Gawn - Obvious reasons

Rivers - I am a big fan of Rivers' kicking and decision making, the kid reads the ball well and is not afraid to take the game on.

Bennell - Has outside run and the foot skills we need. I'd love to see him on the other wing.

Hannan - Another with footy smarts but can go missing. He stands up in big moments and can handle the heat.

It's hard to pick who to take out for these players and that is a great problem to have, so who could be on the chopping block?

Tin man TMac - he can't put the defensive pressure on in the forward half, defenders run around him like its nothing and he has the turning circle of a boat. You can literally see his legs changing gears as he runs.
He can take a great mark and when done so on the wing has helped us connect forward, also doesn't seem to mind the ruck which is handy.

Harmes - had 100% disposal efficiency up until halfway through the 4th (finished 4th best with 93.3%) and didnt give away a free kick this week (my two gripes with him gone)

Melksham - makes the most of his opportunities but should be getting more of it, he is supremely talented but I hardly ever see him.

Jones - Had the kind of game I've been wanting to see all year. His leadership history means alot to the club and I like when he plays forward as it can help the kids and our structure. It is all about winning a premiership, not him getting to 300 games but he needs finals to get to 300, so if he brings that intensity every week, hell drag the rest of the team with him.

Tomlinson - Disposal is letting him down, can't quite find a position for him, yet that's kinda handy to have come off the bench and I prefer him to Omac.

    Conclusion:
If Gawn is fit he will come in for either Pruess or Tmac
    Rivers for Tomlinson

Im hoping he gets better with some continuity because he wasn't like that at Adelaide, at he's best he was backing into contests and taking intercept marks, still young enough to build on, although we payed through the roof for him

He was the number 1 intercept marking player in the comp and had just played in a GF when we got him so of course we payed alot.

It's gonna pay off though, our backline is the best its ever been
