    Channel 7

    Taylor – it’s about me
    Bruce – topping up super
    Darcy – thinks he’s hot
    Richo – dopey but loveable
    Brayshaw – it’s all pretend
    Basil – broke my TV

thanks basil. i just want to give you a bit of an insight into the saturday afternoon team. we’re a bunch of unique individuals – malthouse, harley, zempilas, mclachlan and myself. we’re gonna engage with our minds and our hearts. we’re gonna exchange ideas, thoughts and even our energy. and to speak from your heart you need to have courage. you need to be honest and authentic. we’re not always gonna get it right. and sometimes, you’re not going to agree with us. but that’s okay, because just like you we care. just like you, we’re passionate about the game. so if you want to come along for the ride, join us on saturday arvos, because we just love the footy.

  2. We are not a top team but we can be on our way to being one if you keep the core together and improving on "the system" well at least i hope. If you look at the teams above us and below us and who we have beat we sit exactly where we deserve to be right now.
Yes we all think we should be better, the talent is there.

I'd like to see this team this week along with these things.

Trent Rivers is an absolute find must keep playing, I would love to see the back six in the team below + lockhart gel together
We really missed kozzie pressure in the fwd50, he might not get alot of it, but the lack of pressure was really missing
Lockhart never looks lazy, lets get his energy back in the team
Let's see Harley make an impact, start him in the middle since we have a couple midfielders out
I know the hypon and JWags annoy alot of people however I don't think they have been bad enough to drop
They need to find a way to get Milkshake more into the game and use him to connect to our forwards, A run in the midfield this week please
The May experiment up forward was nice to see Goody try anything to get something in that game, but he is not the answer to the forward line
Goodwin coaching from the bench again. He has a stoic approach to coaching which is rare and could be a calming influence, giving direct advice to the players he has such a good relationship with on the spot to influence the game more.
A message means more when you look them in the eye.

    I call BS on this.

Koschitzke retired at the end of 2013 and Nick Riewoldt was getting on so St Kilda was keen to get a key forward & McCartin was the obvious choice as he was the only key fwd among the top draft picks (McCartin, Petracca, Brayshaw).

    This is what happened ^
Paddy was always number 1 for them and they were being pressured by their supporters to draft the next gun forward

Collingwood fan site recruiting guru Colin Wisbey was asked the question about him and he responded with a “no” because of the “durability” risk. He believes that the Pies have a poor record for managing to have its best 30 players on the park and doesn’t think the risk with him is justified.

Also, he thinks the injuries might have curtailed his capability as a “slippery runner” which is what made him such a highly ranked draftee.

I tend to agree with this view. The AFL hasn’t yet determined things like list sizes and draft rules and Melbourne already  has those four injured horsemen who have missed the entire season through injury as well as a few others yet to play this year. We’re also nursing Harley Bennell back into the game. I think Cockatoo wouldn’t be one of our main targets.

Collingwood have had massive troubles keeping players on the park since replacing the fitness team that was there during Matlhouse era.

if we are talking about the good luck on tracc's leg break goal (or was it an off break), what about the bad luck of tracc not being paid the mark?

I thought his opponent got a touch on it initially live so I can see why the umpire missed it at the time.

You are very right, luck goes both ways.

Seriously good player this kid. Plays with the poise of a 100 game player in his first season. Last night's game should completely shut the gate on the Harmes at half back experiment

    Agreed.

Rivers is the last piece of our back six

  7. How about the luck on the leg break on Trac's last goal - wowee.

To elaborate on your 3 topics Josh, I think these are all factors that can't really be measured by stats besides skill execution

Endeavour - the attitude the player brings and how the player carries themselves during the game ("turning up to play")
Confidence - the self belief the player has in his ability and the team
    Skill execution - Hitting targets
Decision making - knowing when to go, stop and who to pass too
Structure - Defence and ability to transition between offence
Direct Matchups - knowing when you have to make an impact or when to impact your direct opponent
Injuries/Luck/footy Gods - just the crazy [censored] that happens in a game

Watching Mitch Wallis tear us apart on the weekend, I couldn't help but think Harmes was capable of something similar. He is far more suited to a forward role and should be rotated through the middle when opposition mids get on top of us (i.e. Bontempelli).

Trent Rivers should be in the role Harmes is playing at the moment.

I agree with Rivers into Harmes spot however I'd move Harmes into Sparrows spot where he thrived in 2018 with a tagging/run with role

The romance of Hogan working around our current group does really get me.

I have mentioned numerous times that we have a very vanilla group and so many players that are all similar size, pace and ability. Jesse as a pinch hitting onballer and mobile forward would be what i think we could desperately use. He's got the ability to be a permanent onballer but can also kick 50 a year, that's wet dream material.

Unfortunately I also hated him cracking the [censored] when things didn't go his way and dropping his head. So I'd lean towards no. If he had a positive twin brother, I'd almost do anything to get him

Is Jackson the positive twin brother?

More games = more money so I doubt they would go for it.

The marginal cost of an additional game is not high as the salaries etc are fixed costs.

There would be issues with stadiums running below break even but the power clubs would do well. They could charge more for 17 home games than the usual 10-11.

oh 100% the AFL is a business so money will be the main factor in a decision like this.
    TV revenue is huge.

A lot of changes will happen with more profit, one being the players will want their share too so salary caps will increase again.

More profit can also mean more available investment into building the AFLW product.

  11. I actually prefer this season with only playing everyone once, Now that we are getting towards the end the race for the 8 it more exciting.

hard to do with home and away fixture and be fair, some teams would do better one year with more home games than the next etc.
So playing everyone twice would be ideal.

Imagine how excruciating it would be if we had a 34 game season in the Neeld era and trying to get through that.

They (FFC) were under a fair bit of pressure at the time. New kid on the block Bell saw the danger signs and tried to pull out of the trade, but the new president told him that the fans would crucify them if they let this once-in-a-generation talent slip through their fingers. subsequently, the urge to get him on the park at all cost must have been enormous.

I think he's an old fashioned CHF, best when roaming around, marking, linking up, the odd bit of ruck work, while snagging the occasional sausage roll himself. But it's all moot now as I think the footy world has seen the best of him.

Rushing him onto the field did more damage for sure, Freo were desperate at the time.

He is very much suited at CHF, I Like Weed at FF yet it seems Tmac is playing deeper than him generally.
Hard to tell just from TV what exactly is happening with our gameplan.

Hogan is a huge talent that can play many positions when mentally healthy

  13. He had a really bad run in 2017 with his fathers death and getting cancer himself, He then had a horrible foot injury in 2018 and went home to be with family, choosing to be around his family which from the whispers I heard from friends in with the club was that he was really torn about leaving. He loved playing for the Dees and with that current squad.
When we traded him at the end of 2018 when he had a horrible foot injury (I think it was similar to Vandenbergs) we got SO MUCH for him.

I don't think the environment back in WA has actually been ideal for him to succeed. It seems like fitness staff never got ontop of his injury, rushed him in and thats why he kept not performing at the level we saw.

Imagine Hogan at FF taking the number 1 defender, leaving Weed with number 2 defender and Jackson playing on the wing or half forward to stretch their defence and chopping Max out in the ruck.

The players loved playing with him and look, I think we'd be fine without him. However if it comes up, it would be silly for the club not to consider it.
