PODCAST: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Why do our forwards lead to the square rather than at the ball carrier? Why are we expecting JVR to be the sole key forward and back up ruck in a game we really had to win? Why can't we fire a shot in the last quarter? Why when the clock is ticking in the last do we guard grass and let Essendon play keepings off? May is fast becoming a liability. Gawn is fading before our eyes yet we have zero backup. Windsor is a wingman. How many more losses until we rip the bandaid off?

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
They can have him cheap, just get him and Oliver off the books. If those 2 net us picks 9 and 10 I'll be happy enough. Both have played a solid part in our demise.

Time to go Goody?
There’s better analysts of tactics on here than me, can anyone on here seriously tell me that our current plan has any hope of working.

Time to go Goody?
The Goodwin era looks done. I honestly can’t see us beating Richmond atm. If we lose that I think he needs to fall on his sword. For mine the worst part of last night was watching us guard grass in the last quarter while Essendon just chipped it around to each other. There’s no dare, there’s no ability to run. There’s no discernible plan, we look so lost. Personally I think we tire because we chase opposition all game. Freo will absolutely belt us. Could start getting very ugly if it hasn’t already. In what world are forwards trained to lead back to the square? Then when they do they don’t check the back man running back and then try and mark, very low percentage effort. Can we actually afford to allow this to continue? Currently we’ll finish second bottom and have pick 20 odd.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Personally I think going smaller makes sense. We need players who can run, tackle and harass to both move the ball better and create contest forward of centre. Seriously what could be worse than the last few weeks?

Time to go Goody?
Put it this way, if the team wins a few, doesn’t get belted week in and week out, we see a few improvements then for mine he stays. If we start getting belted and the players start getting restless then he may need to be earlier. I don’t see this happening. I don’t think the club can sack Goodwin when we do t have a CEO, nor do I think you sack the coach mid season unless we really spiral which I don’t think we’ll do. What I think will happen is we’ll start winning a few games, McVee, Windsor, Lindsay, Langford, Pickett and a few others will get the game plan closer to what we’re chasing and we’ll miss finals by a similar amount to last year. Goodwin will step down and we’ll get a new coach.

Time to go Goody?
Jeez, it started as a conversation but it doesn't take long for the lynch mob to ride into town. He deserves 6-8 weeks to see what he and the team can achieve and unless the team really spirals he should be supported through the rest of the year. By spiral I mean a series of 80 plus beltings. I'll admit I've waived on this, thinking we should just rip the bandaid off but really that just makes us look like reactionary amateurs. At the end of the season I think it's likely we'll see a new coach and we can part ways with Goodwin respectfully as adults, he's our best performed coach in 60 years. If we want to be a serious club this is how you do it. Look at how the Swans did it, that's the template although I'd like a coach from outside the club.

Our fitness and training schedule in 2025
Some say we started breaking down early to mid 22 and that our game style plus Burgess is a brutal thing year on year. I guess we’ll watch Adelaide with interest although they’re playing fast transition as opposed to long, bash and crash.

Time to go Goody?
It’s largely where I sit as well. I’m not convinced sacking coaches is a great decision, it never seems to improve things. However if things spiral it may just be needed as a circuit breaker. It’s hard for a club lacking a CEO to start sacking coaches. You really need a whole of club approach to decisions this big. I don’t see him lasting the off season unless we really turn things around.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
I'd guess the players don't warm to him all that much.

If we lose this week I will?
There’s a post on Instagram of when we played Essendon under Roos and Salem kicked the winner. It reminded me of when it was fun following Melbourne. Sure we were coming off a terrible period but there was signs we could be good. That’s all I need this week. A gutsy hard fought win against average opponents. That’ll do me, nothing flash. I’d like it to be painfully close and we kick the sealer with a minute to go and then grind the clock down to deny them after they’ve led almost all day. You get what I’m laying down?

Maybe a water logged ball from 45, not a wet ball but a good old fashioned water laden ball. If you can kick that 45 then you’re good to go

Basically he saw Oliver talking to Geelong players after the game and then realised, without a doubt, that Oliver still wants to live in a farm.

We’re not sacking Goodwin until at least round 10, we’ll likely have a CEO by then

TRAINING: Monday 7th April 2025
My problem with them playing soccer is really just where I choose to take my frustration with the club atm. Here we are struggling with a new game plan, shocking disposal and the bulk of the players playing below what we've seen in the past and there they are running around laughing and playing soccer. If they were winning, united and their disposal efficiency was higher I wouldn't care less.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Great, I'm now firmly in the camp of trading both these guys but Oliver most importantly. I'd take a highish first round pick and they pay the bulk of his salary. We need the picks and we just don't need the attention. I'd want a top 10 pick for Petracca and all his salary. You can want more but the reality is these guys are nearing 30, one comes with significant baggage and the other likely doesn't want to do the hard work required to lift this club back to the top. Pickett I say he has to stay at least one more year and then we'll talk. Get 2 more highish picks into taylor's hands, a new coach and a assistants and a strong CEO and board and I'm of the belief this list will flourish. Get a new coach in the mould of Kent Kingsley. I just can't imagine he would tolerate the rubbish we've put up with. I love love but listening to my coach talk this dribble must make the Harvey Langford's of the team think WTF!

TRAINING: Monday 7th April 2025
If Tholstrup is fit and in no danger of aggravating his injury which I’m sure is the case I’d play him. I’d also play Lindsay under the same covenant. The sooner all these young guys are playing together it won’t be long until they start driving the standards. New leaders will appear and old leaders will step back. This is what we desperately need. At years end Goodwin retires, new coaches start. Petracca and/or Oliver are traded and more draftees arrive. I’m confident about the future but jeez this year is going to be tough.
