  1. We look like the team coming off a 4 day break
  2. The season heats up from here. No more soft opponents (other than Carlton in Rd 10) Tough game. Their midweek game v the Suns was a training drill so i don't expect the 4 day turnaround to be too much of a factor tonight We'll need to play to our maximum to win. Need big games from the midfield group in particular. And I would like to see us bring Bannon into the game more. She has devastating leg speed. Find out how tired the Lions actually are Heart says Dees, head says Lions
  3. Some people take issue with the JJ mark and goal but was it any different to BB's mark and goal in the 3rd when he had his hands in the back of the defender before marking. I think the 2 negate each other The only obvious inconsistency i can remember was when Spargo was pinged for a high tackle on Hunter (that he scored from) however Kozzie didn't get a free in the exact same situation later in the game. I think is was Libba that tackled him As long as umpires are consistent in game i've no issues
  4. When Colvin first came into the team she gave me heart attacks every time she was near the ball. To her credit she she has improved a lot and is now a solid dependable defender. Gillard must be the goods to take her spot in the team.
  5. Best of luck to Gillard and Purcell on their debuts The phony war is over. All big games from here on. I'm looking forward to it
  6. I'm watching the game right now (although skipped through some of it) The game bobbed up in my you tube feed, the Perth MMM call. Started watching but didn't have the patience to watch the second quarter so fast forwarded to 10 mins left in the 3rd. Harmsey has just hit Fritsch on the chest to get our comeback rolling. I'm sorted for the next hour or so
  7. You could be right for sure I would also say he’s a natural on the podcast with Maxy. Intelligent and articulate a career in the media beckons post footy. Unlike other players whose options when they retire are limited and therefore have to maximise their earnings while they can Gus has a definite career option. I don’t think the big final contract is as big a necessity for him
  8. He's not money motivated. Perhaps the offer of an inside mid spot at another club would appeal but he's worked so hard to adapt to the wing role in a premiership team. Why forego that spot? Plus leaving would spell the end of the Gus and Gawny podcast and the break-up of the greatest bromance in the AFL. Won't happen
  9. I reckon the Lions will have recovered by Monday. I was hoping the Suns would give them a hard game last night but it was just a training run
  10. I've watched a full replay twice but i've watched an untold amount of segments/snippets. The late blast in the 3rd quarter is pretty much imprinted on my brain i've seen it so often. I doubt i'll watch the full replay again for a while. Perhaps when my son is old enough to watch in full with me My focus is on the new season and the many victories that lie ahead. I can't wait
  11. Liam Jurrah is top of the what might have been list for sure. I wonder how Colin Sylvia would have gone in todays team. I think the better environment and culture might have helped him realise his full potential. He was super talented. Played similarly to Trac although not sure if he could have reached Trac’s level.
  12. I watched the first quarter of the Lions and Suns. Thought it might be close, the Suns were 7th on the ladder going into the game, and wanted to see how the Lions were travelling seeing as we play them on Monday. It was 20 points to 2 at quarter time. One-way traffic. Decided to go for walk rather than keep watching. Lions are currently leading 61-2 at 3 qtr time. I’m glad I went for a walk
  13. Nathan Jones. Very good player who soldiered on valiantly during some very very lean years. Such a pity he couldn't make the grand final team
  14. He's young and will bounce back I'm sure We have great options to cover his injury. Would love to see Thommo get the nod (if fit). He was outstanding until injured last year (iirc he held Hawkins to one goal in our early season clash with the Cats)
  15. Quality is definitely down this year. There have not been many great games (Crows v doggies on the weekend was excellent but few and far between) Don;t think a re-draft is the answer. Players have developed loyalties to their club and teammates and won't want to switch The comp has expanded too quickly. We need less teams not more
  16. Carlton fans will be very surprised to hear they have 3 elite defenders on their team And as for Nic Nat. i don't understand the fawning. His fitness levels are appalling for a so called professional. Imagine what kind of player he could be if he was bothered to build a tank like Maxy has
  17. 5. Hanks 4. Mithen 3. West 2. Harris 1. Paxy
  18. Thought we played well other than goal-kicking. Pressure up and some players finding form which is positive L Pearce, Mithen, Paxy, Goldy, West and Hanks best. Harris took some strong grabs. And she loves hurting people. Leading goal kicker in the comp now I think McNamara uncharacteristically quiet but she’s been great all year GWS very very limited We’ve beaten who’ve we had and have the 5 wins on the board but the going gets tough from here. Huge test against the Lions next week. That game will show us whether we’re genuine contenders or not Go Dees
  19. And another. floodgates open now. Keep your foot on the throat ladies. Percentage is important
  20. Soft free kick to Harris but we'll take it. That goal finishes this as a contest (not that it ever really was)
  21. If West could kick she'd be some player. She's in the middle of everything today
  22. Shelly Scott shows how its done. We needed that. Atrocious goal-kicking that qtr. The Giants have offered nothing offensively so we should close it out from here
  23. terrible miss fitzsimons. we'll shoot ourselves in the foot here if we're not careful
  24. Dees 2.3.15 to no score for the Giants. that qtr was an arm wrestle. Giants defending stoutly but are offering nothing going forward. We should be further ahead but if we keep the pressure on i think the dam will burst in the second half
