WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Yes. Loves it. One passage of play that stood out for me when he played for Metro was when Petraccae was guarding the mark, WA player tried to fake and take him on, Christian took him down hard, ball spilled free to another WA player, and Petracca rag dolled him to boot.

I agree. I'd be looking to start him up forward to give our moribund fwd line a bit of spark. He can roll up into midfield from there.

Stringer's a pretty good comparison. Didn't see as much of Stringer in the midfield due to his injury, but I'd imagine the playing style would be fairly similar.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
I'd rate Boyd as the better player, both on performance at the equivalent stage in his draft year and also on potential. I'm not all that worried by his start, it's unrealistic to expect young kp players to come in and fire straight away. Theres a bit of Matthew Lloyd about his game, particularly his kicking. When Boyds confidence is up, he's automatic in front of goal.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Haven't seen him live yet PSD, but hope to see him in action next weekend. He's kicked bags of 10 & 7 in recent TAC Cup outings and had a haul in the region of 16 or so for Marcellin in between. A basketball convert who's probably sitting in the second round at the moment, but could push up a bit further if he maintains this form. To date the asterisk on his big hauls are the opposition he performed against weren't high end (relative to the competition).

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Just going on Rooโs past recruiting strategy, I feel itโs unlikely heโll draft a ruck type this high. The policy at Sydney was always to pick up the rucks through trade, after they had matured and were ready to contribute straight away. With Max Gawn coming through, & Jamar as first ruck for now, I think we go for Wright only if we are one of the clubs that feels he can play full time kpf. I believe most clubs think Wrightโs a ruck/fwd at AFL level, and as of yet Wright hasnโt excelled in the ruck for Calder (he did have one excellent game in the Champs there).

The 2014 AFL National Draft
At this stage Petracca is well ahead of Brayshaw. His endurance is ok, I think he runs a 15 beep, and right now I think his inside game is ahead of Brayshaw's. He's shown more composure and awareness in contested situations. Brayshaw a slightly neater kick out in space, but doesn't have the same tricks Petracca has. Petracca's output this season has been very consistent, I think the only issue is whether we are picking behind GWS in the draft, because if we are, they will take him.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Cheers mate. yeah, instinct tells me that the lowest we will finish is 3rd last, can't see us dropping the game to GWS, who already have some of their young guns warehoused with season ending medical procedures. If GWS end up with pick 2 AND we take two picks to the draft, we'll take Brayshaw and have some flexibility with the other pick. I think Lachie failed to qualify as an academy zone selection because he hadn't lived there long enough. He only moved up from Tassie when Maverick was pre-selected by the Suns. Looks like he has benefitted a great deal from being in the academy system though. He's probably in the 5-15 range, could be a real steal. Would be funny if Collingwood selected him and benefitted from his GC academy experience...

The 2014 AFL National Draft
He has a good pace, endurance combo and uses the ball well. A solid second round prospect who we should get with a third round pick. It's all upside as far as I can tell. I'm a big fan of Daniel too, not sure where he'll go, but would love to pick him up if he's around late (which is entirely possible given his height). I'm not as high on Johansen.

Tend to agree on both points. Just on North, whatever happened to Taylor Garner? Lamb reminds me a little bit of him, but we haven't seen Garner for a while. Big raps when he was drafted. If you need a kpf it's McCartin, otherwise Petracca has been a standout this year. 5 goals (and 32 possessions) from midfield last week and another 3 goals in a narrow loss to Geelong yesterday.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Duggan's got terrific skills and would be ideal for that half back distributor we (desperately) need. I'm hearing that recruiters are rating him as a fringe top 15 guy, but he's looked pretty good every time I've seen him, so not sure what I'm missing. I'd have him in the 7-10 range, but I think we'll see a fair variance in how teams rate prospects this year. Had another look at Brayshaw out at Trevor Barker Oval today. My main concern with him is that he lacks composure in traffic. Given his forte is supposed to be his inside work, Angus default clearance method appears to be to slam the ball on the boot as opposed to using quick hands to find a teammate in close (and thereby retain possession). He did this a number of times in the Championships, and he turned it over regularly again today. When out in the open, Brayshaw is a very nice kick, so I'm putting it down to his decision making in traffic. Overall I still think he's in the best three (all-round) mids in the draft, but I think guys like Blakely and Gore are more effective inside players than Brayshaw. Sandringham as a team were extremely disappointing today, so Angus didn't get a whole lot of support, which may have had some bearing along with some pretty wintry weather. As a whole Dandenong were quite impressive, with Jack Lonie a lively creative small forward who could be good value if he's available late, and Mitchell White impressive as a utility with good height and good skill, the standouts. Tom Lamb unfortunately looks like he may drop down the draft order. He has an obvious wealth of talent, but lacked discipline and looked like he would only play the game on his terms. Should be doing a lot more than he is, and noticed him ignore instruction from the team runner in order to chase easy kicks. It led to an almighty bake from the Stingrays coach. I've heard some recruiters have gone right off him, Lamb will need to address the attitudinal questions to avoid sliding further.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
IMO the depth is more than ok, but the top end doesnโt have the standout, ticks all of the box type players of recent drafts (Boyd, Whitfield, Kelly, etc). The quality is perceived to run deeper than last year, in which a very low number of draftees was taken overall. Itโs a fairly even field and thereโll be a reasonable discrepancy in how teams rank players. That said, weโve had quite a number of last yearโs crop play and play well this year, with Tom Langdon the poster boy for late pick success.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Jordy was a taller inside mid, Ahernโs more of a run and carry wingman type. He's developed his inside game very well, but will likely be an outside runner at AFL level (who will win his own ball). Not as quick as Pickett, but probably more rounded. That said, I donโt think anyone in the draft can change a game like Pickett can with his run and dash. He can chase and tackle well, but can disappear for periods.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Second round out to third probably around the mark for Wigg, unless he has a Colquhoun type plummet. Heโs not as short as Colquhoun, so he shouldnโt drop, but I think as players thereโs a similarity. Wiggโs the best field kick in the draft, but I also like Duggan and Viojo-Rainbow are others who standout as high level rebounding defenders. Duggan should go first round, if he somehow gets to our second rounder, we should jump on. Another who didnโt go so well at the Nationals, but I rate is Daniel Capiron.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Gore played a very mature type of game. Yeah, his positioning was good, and got to multiple contests. I think the South Australian squad is full of bargain types. At this stage Durdinโs the only one projected to be in the first round, but I think there are a number of players in that team who will be good players in the AFL. Harrison Wiggโs an obvious one due to his kicking ability, but Declan Hamilton caught the eye with his creativity too. Laverdeโs an exciting athlete, and like Hoskin-Elliott, has the pace to take the game on and can take a great high mark. Can run himself into trouble, but seems to generally get himself out of it. I think Ahern can definitely influence games with fewer touches with his vision and skill. His decision making appears to be very good too, which is one thing that is very difficult to coach into a player. I think the general question with him is his tank, but thatโs not uncommon for an under 18. If his work ethic is good, then that can be improved in an AFL environment. His ceiling is a Stevie Johnson midfield/forward type.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Hadn't seen too much of him before watching the coverage of Metro and SA. I got to the double header at Simonds, but Gore didn't win much of the ball against Country (was pretty good defensively with 7 tackles though). Was impressed with his work inside against Metro. Really good hands in close and his inside work reminded me a bit of Luke Dunstan. Has some senior experience and it showed with his composure inside. When he got the ball on the spread, mainly played the percentages with his kick, which looked ok without necessarily being a weapon. A few good performances for Sturt and he could push himself up into the second round maybe. Other thoughts from Metro v SA: Whoever ends up taking a flyer on Caleb Daniel will end up with a pretty exciting player. Pace, endurance, vision, composure, kicking skill and footy nous. A natural footballer with some great traits, but clubs will hesitate because of his height. On all round ability he'd be top 5. Worth noting he's cracked Souths senior side in the SANFL and picked up 17 touches and a goal last weekend. Laverde reminds me a lot of Will Hoskin-Elliot, and if Ahern can string together some higher possession games in the run home to the draft, he will go very high. He's already got a good set of tools, needs to get more of the ball.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
I have Ahern as my second preferred behind Petracca at the moment. If he continues to show the form he did toward the back end of the championships, I believe heโll be widely regarded as a top 5 pick. Not quite as quick as Pickett, but I think his game is a bit more rounded, and like Pickett can change a game. Needs to build endurance, but I like his composure in close. Does well in congestion.
