  1. is it possible that Ratten could have a legal case against St Kilda for impairing his ability to seek other work, such that St Kilda ought to be required to pay out more than the mandatory 6 months of salary? I hope Ratten goes to court - the 6-months clause gives all the power to the clubs. While Ratten has been well paid, compared to you n me! he's in a billion-dollar comp and I think 6-months payout is unfair with 24 months left in contract (Oct 2022 - Sept 2024). To see the Saints losing and in Court - what a combination. That club should be thrown out of the league.
  2. I agree with other posters that this is what Linton St should do: move further south to Hobart. They can keep the name St Kilda but change Saints to Penguins: "Oh when the penguins, come waddlin' in ..." To be fair, we were this bad 10 years ago but at least we had contributed much to the game and behaved with dignity. I hope the Penguins are slaughtered each week next year and we kick 200 points against them.
  3. you can't say that QBD - Kim Jong-un will cut up ruff!
  4. i believe Ol' Fella that AFL changed all club contracts to mean that only 6 months salary to be paid out no matter how many months are left. Saints president, Andrew Bassat, said at today's media conference that paying out was the decent thing to do! The decent thing to do!!! what about the other 18 months Bassat - that's Bassat the multi millionaire from Seek.com, where poor Ratten now finds himself. Pay Ratten the full amount but that's typical of Linton St - they went broke what 3 times in the 60s, 70s and 80s? Didn't pay their only premiership coach his dues - even when the two-headed monster Butters and Thomas were making record profits. no wonder I am an Anti-Saint!
  5. supa intell Bstander
  6. Hill - yeah/nah/yeah; Clarke - nah; Long - yeah - you have good intel down there at Linton St which is a dump of an area, I know I grew up next door! @Queanbeyan Demon
  7. we win Maldonboy first 10 then lose 8 from 14! in 6 of the 8 losses we were up by three goals - the othe two we are within a goal
  8. Agree Dee-tox u dont call players spuds or duds - and all but milkshake are premiership players
  9. and from 1961 to 64 we won 4 of 9 finals. the slide was beginning,
  10. and from 1954 to 1960 we won 11 of 14 finals!
  11. Beeennnnnneeeerrrrt! Loved the WA recruit - and what an excerpt ... hey, is it me or does that ball look smaller than today's Sherrin - could that be a Ross Faulkner?
  12. thought the same last night - top get by you.
  13. well QBD buy a copy of Ian Munro's MFC book: and send Swooper a copy - Swoop runs a pub down Geelong way?
  14. look QBD - as you know, Murdoch has sacked all the sub-editor so as he can record another billion-dollar profit. so I missed a letter in "they"! you give me goals off the boat (get it - I know it's meant to be boot) of Max and I will shut up!
  15. hi all the only stat that matters is winning but while we await another win reflect on this (the modern era but if we went back into our domination of the 50s and 60s this record would be even more impressive): 1987: 2 wins from 3 finals 88: 3/4 89: 1:2 90: 1/2 91: 1/2 94: 2/3 98: 2/3 (stupid Final 8 system then deprived us of a flag) 00: 2/3 (only year until last year we got a week's rest in the finals) 02: 1/2 04: 0/1 05: 0/1 06: 1/2 (we got rid of Mini-Bus Thomas from St Kilda with that one win) 18: 2/3 21: 3/3 Tallies: 21 wins from 34 finals It would seem as though we have a reason to be confident going into Friday based on these simplistic stats?
  16. the zoning - and I recall this as a kid - by the VFL for the Hawks was fair dinkum unbelievable that the Saints, which were located in that vicinity (St Kilda) prior to moving down to Linton St. I can't stand either club as both harbour and excuse thugs. Nevertheless, how did the VFL do that zoning decision?
  17. thanks for the review Jack ... $45 a copy and Ian Munro won't make a cent such is the time one puts into publishing such a book. into the Christmas wish list ... I want one nearly as much as a flag after your and Mike Sheahan's reviews.
  18. thanks DS ... i think the were at HFC?
  19. u r right - that's unreadable is it produced by McGuire Media possibly?!!!
  20. The Filth play on being detested. What would you expect from a club that housed Triple Chins for Three Decades (it seemed that looong!)
  21. good on ya Chooka
  22. when did we play The Filth in a "big match" like we are this Friday? "Big match" would be a final - and I don't think we have played The Filth since 1964?, or playing a HnA match which means making a play for the finals or avoiding the wooden spoon. So, I go back to 1976 to Bogan Park when we had to win to make the finals for the first time since 64 and The Filth had to win to avoid its first-ever wooden spoon. It was even sweeter when we fixed up The Filth in 1976 18.20-128 ti 17.11-113 with Carman, Phil kicking 7 spectacular goals for The Filth (Carmen finished when we got him) and Biffin, Ray kicking 4 for us. As The Filthstorian (that's a Filth historian) recalls: "In 1976, Collingwood finished last for the first time in its history under coach Murray Weideman with six wins, more than any previous bottom side." How sweet that The Filth weren't that bad but we give em a spoon even though we missed our on finals due to Footscray drawing with CarlTank at least we fixed up coach Weideman, who went round bashing our blokes in 1958 GF, as they sacked Weideman and then replaced him with Hafey ... Weideman could not stand that Hafey was the first "clean" (I mean not a coach from within The Filth) coach. I hold grudges! BTW I have a soft spot for Sam Weideman but I just wish Sam would change his name!
  23. do we refer to this opposition as Coll....... or The Fi.....?
  24. if The Filth continue to fix up Essend.... then our weekend will be a Dee-saster - they will need to win by 20 goals but still Im that negative after last night that Im in that frame of thought - negative.
