Captaincy 2020
Nowhere did I say anything about leaks or sources or such. People are potting the guy for making a statement a month before the draft that didn't pan out. He might have made it up, might have been told wrong or things might have changed in that time. The fact remains however that he made a post about the draft order that was majorly spot on. Personally, I much prefer to read that kind of post than the ones where anonymous internet posters whose only contribution is opinion gang up on someone who has actually contributed something productive.

Captaincy 2020
Not to interrupt a classic Demonland lynch mob, but I believe Lord Travis was referring to this post of his which was astonishingly accurate. Always interesting seeing some who contribute so little being so quick to criticize others who try to.

Captaincy 2020
'Confirmed' how exactly? The players are on break and they have a vote that mostly determines the captaincy. That vote is usually held in late Jan at the earliest. Not saying you're wrong at this stage, but the lack of information combined with the timing makes me pretty dubious. Max himself has said the vote would be held around February or March.

Top 10 MFC Players of the Decade
No mate, I am no 'happy clapper' nor am I satisfied with our lack of success. But I choose to recognize and respect Jones' contribution and football career rather than belittle him from behind the anonymity of a keyboard and rant and rave on the internet like it will achieve anything. You seem to inhabit this world where you're either a 'happy clapper' or mad as hell (it's obvious which one you've chosen of course), which blinds you from being able to see things in anything more than the most simplistic of ways. It's sad to be honest, you seem to not be able to draw any joy at all from footy anymore, only from whinging. Our supporter culture is as bad (still) as our football culture has been. The fact we've had young men who have had to remove their own social media accounts due to abuse from their own fans says as much. But I'm sure you're one of those who say 'well they get paid lots, so I can say whatever I want!', which generally goes along with the gutless supporters who cancel their memberships to 'teach the club a lesson' while concurrently complaining about our lack of facilities, resources and poor bottom line. P*** weak supporter base sometimes. Exhibit B:

Top 10 MFC Players of the Decade
Yeah, he has. 3 Blueys, likely 300 gamer and potentially our games record holder by the end of 2020. Not to mention the personal characteristics of the bloke in his work ethic, consistency of performance and fitness and his unmatched loyalty. Personally I find the shift in supporter mentality towards him the last year or two (in certain circles) absolutely p*ss poor and symptomatic of a weak supporter culture, which is of course ironic given how much supporters love to complain about club culture.

Top 10 MFC Players of the Decade
Would assume this is based on contribution over the decade rather than a list of simply 'best players'. As good as Gawn and Clarry are, they've both only had 3-4 years each of high impact compared to the consistent performance of Jones over the 10 year time frame.

Dees Post Operating Loss for 2019
More than fair enough mate. I have a healthy amount of skepticism too, but I'm a huge PJ fan so I have this strange amount of hope and trust for a Dees supporter about this.
-
Dees Post Operating Loss for 2019
Given PJ and the AFL both signed off on the deal I've got a fair bit of trust that there are things in the works to replace that income.

Dees Post Operating Loss for 2019
Missed my point mate. I'm talking about the perspective here, people are acting like pokies are the only thing that will see us succeed as a business.

Inside the Draft
Because it wouldn't be anything to do with the departure of Pedersen, Hogan and T.Smith over the last couple of years and the injury worries for TMac... But yeah, they probs re-contracted Weid due to that lack of faith.

Sponsors 2020
Looks like Hertz have replaced Johnnie Walker on the shorts with JW no longer a sponsor (going by the MFC Sponsors page).

Don't see any Jag logo.... (or were they always on the back?) Edit - Yep, just checked, they were on the back. Johnnie Walker gone though?

How much will Melbourne improve in 2020??
All fair mate. We've probably both said our pieces now. Hopefully Gus can regain his form and confidence next year, he's a very important player for us. Cheers!

How much will Melbourne improve in 2020??
Was pretty clear he was badly out of form and going downhill as the season went on. We're not arguing about that surely? Last year he was dropped for poor standards, came back and had a great season. This year they did the opposite and it had the opposite effect. I don't know mate, seems reasonably simple to me, and not something only club insiders can see.

How much will Melbourne improve in 2020??
I don't think you're getting what I'm saying mate, might be my fault for not explaining it well enough. We agree Gus was badly out of form and it got worse as the year went on right? To me, that's enough to manage him differently, try to either get his form and confidence back at VFL level OR get his body right, whichever it was that was causing that drop off. I'm not saying I know which it was, or even if it was both, I'm just saying that either way; running him into the ground and playing him all 22 games didn't work. When I'm saying 'management' I'm speaking holistically, not just about injury management. Hope that makes better sense than how I've put it previously? (We may still disagree of course, which is fine)

How much will Melbourne improve in 2020??
Sure, but that's my point about management. Gus looked absolutely defeated and shot as the season went on, so it seems incredibly poor player management to keep running him down purely on the basis that his injury won't get worse when his form and our finals chance both say it was not worth doing that. He got worse as the year went on binman. Not sure you can guarantee his 'learnings' in that context, and his body language late in the season was a pretty solid indicator of where he was at mentally IMO. And tbh, I'm staggered you thought and incredibly out of form and likely injured Brayshaw was a good option to be selected in a team out of the race early in the season.

Sorry LH, should have clarified, that wasn't directed at you, was a general comment about this thread. Apologies.

Dees Post Operating Loss for 2019
I'm just saying let's hold off the lynch mob for now. Our previous CEO, whom I sure most rate very highly, signed off on this and clearly had plans in the works. The AFL also looked over the plans and the books and ticked it off. I'll take that over anything that has been 'mooted' at this stage. Instead of everyone getting so outraged, why don't we give it the actual time it needs to play out before starting our board ticket?

Dees Post Operating Loss for 2019
We will still have revenue from the Bentleigh Club, just not from pokies. Also, Jackson said at the time: ‘‘If you take the gaming revenue out of the equation, we need to make up 10 per cent of our overall revenue. Over a two- to three-year period, we will be able to readjust and grow, and we have several ideas on how to do that.’’ So maybe people are overreacting about the impact of the pokies revenue? At least for now.

Deluca just today has signed with the Hawks. Edit - Just realized that's the Hawks of Box Hill, rather than Glenferrie. As you were.

Players were drafted mid-season this year, hardly think it's /thread time due to that.

How much will Melbourne improve in 2020??
His form and confidence as the year went on contradicts that.
