Gil has succeeded then. He’s turning the game into a reality TV show.

Yep we will be replaced by cardboard cut out figures or painted forms on seats with Muzac in the background.

    The perfect arrangement for all.

Geez, I hope this situation leads to segregation of opposition fans at footy matches. For years I haven't wanted to sit next to some ill educated boofhead supporting the opposition, especially ill eductaed Magpie or bomber fans. Bring it on !!!

If my wife brings in the Behavioural Awareness Officers into my lounge room when I'm watching the footy, I'm stuffed !!!!

I'M WITH YOU PINEAPPLE.  I wouldn't make quarter time !! My BAO at home has the power to order me out of the room. No sense in fighting the ban as the subsequent consequences are worse

  4. Could it be that other teams allow us the cps and clearances and yes even the inside 50s

We have all our players at the ball at stoppages and inside 50 and all our players going for marks

The other teams wait on the outside for us to cough it up or  fluff the kick or hand ball

They are  already outside and then we have to chase. By the time the last quarter comes along our players are stuffed cant run, cant chase cant kick. Look at the scores against and our poor kicking in last quarters.

The other ting about stats is they don't always tell the whole story.  Clarry against the pies had 38 possessions and gained 58 metres for the whole day, We have so many players who don't really hurt the opposition.

We must design a game plan that plays to our strengths.

Since Hawthorn lost Tom Mitchel they also have an outside problem with two many players at the ball and nobody with the skill that they trust to get it to the outside runners.

I'd be a fan of sending Fritta back to Casey,  to loosen-u... and enjoy his game again...  to free him up,  in mind somewhat.

He looks burdened,  and a bit stale,  tired.

This would help us to get more games into Lockhart,  and others,  on rotational clusters of games.  Just for the kids who need more exposure to the big league...  to help them adjust.

IMO,  our biggest weakness is the depth of maturity...   So many young players,  who haven't yet bridged the devide, between VFL and AFL.  they need games of exposure to get there.

Rest our walking wounded,  and expose some lazy others, to the hard work they avoid.  Make them put up.  Via they're own responsibilities...  without injured stars to hide behind.

Pull Viney and TMc out... Hannan because of his chronic knees,... so save his knees with less workload.Put Petracca into the centre.  run him hard. resting on the bench.

Play Preuss, and run him hard as well.    and send Preuss over to the States again,  end of September...  and again, December/January... fast track him.

Get Fritta, Hunt, ANB, Keilty, Stretch, Spargo, Sparrow, Bedford, Chandler, Jordan, Dunkley, & Nietschke,  into the Gym full time,  from late August.  Into the weights,  and Boxing.

    Couldn't agree more Dv

Suns and Blues big chances this weekend. If both get up the Dees will be 18th by Saturday night.

Yes Matsuo I realised that last night. Another ignominious achievement. Prelim  to cellar in 12 months.

    Gee I love this club.

Who plays on that kid Hogan?

    Doesn't matter or shouldn't

He is the player with the worst form fall off in the entire competition in one year.

Which of course means he will have a blinder and kick 6.We are very very good at playing people into form.

It's become clear that Goodwin believes that all out attack on the footy is how you win.

Like the Mike Tyson saying "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face", Goodwin thinks if we play our way, no game plan can stand up to it. They fall apart and wilt under the extreme pressure. If they don't, it shows we didn't do it well enough.

That's why there was no review of the prelim loss. We didn't play "our way"; if we had, the Eagles would have fallen apart.

That's why there is no plan B. Plan B is simply to execute plan A with more intensity.

Goodwin's ideal player is someone who can execute plan A, regardless of finesse. That's why a Spargo gets picked over a Preuss over and over, even though Preuss fills our current deficiencies much better. Spargo has the necessary "run around all day like a mad hornet" attribute. That he is more often chasing and tackling than in possession of the pill, let alone using it well, appears to be of no consequence.

Still on the boxing theme, we're like a punch drunk fighter with no technique, getting picked off with jabs, but following our opponent around the ring, walking into his combinations, saying to ourselves, "I only need to hit him once!"

    Perfect analogy Mazer!

    Got 10 clearances. Ten! Insane.

Ruck rule changes have really helped him.

Gee  that's incredible! It makes you wonder what the other 4 guys on ball  are doing in the meantime.

Just another example of poor coaching at stoppages and  use of our available talent. I watched Max from the wing all afternoon. It was one of the best individual performances I have witnessed. On a few occasions he was beaten or our on ball brigade fluffed it he went again and again with multiple efforts.

Just was one great performances to witness.

Hogan : I was vocal early last season on trading him was happy when a deal was reached. I couldn’t buy into the whole “he’s  kicked 40+ goals two years in a row, hes the best young fwd in the comp garbage “, because he couldn’t take a pack mark, struggled for accuracy when not directly in front and failed to dominate a top 8 side. We moved at exactly the right time and got May.

I note with some concern that Hogan tops the current list for the biggest drop in form in the entire AFL competition

    He is currently minus 59%

But vs us in a few weeks  miraculous 6 goals plus. Time to visit sportsbet again.

    Can't just blame the forwards.

Kick inside 50 retention rate is a useful stat for us I think. Basically sums up the quality of our kicks inside 50. We are the third worst team in the league, but what is really telling is with the AFL average for players being 46%, we currently have Brayshaw (33%), Oliver (30%) and Viney (a league-worst 24%) as our main ball winners kicking it to our forwards.

If Goodwin wants to find some solutions to our "connection" I would think he needs to start with our co-captain. Either he is not following instructions or is a horrible decision maker. Given how much Goodwin has talked about this problem, we can rule out that he's doing as told.

    Dont touch Viney!!

Stop being logical Praha. The panic is starting and This is turning into a lord of the flies scenario. We just have to find the right person to sacrifice.

Logic has nothing to do with it.

If people running the club  don't want a lamb sacrifice, then the club needs to stop spinning and  accept some home truths. The bbq spit is being set up.

Agree with all of this - Melbourne are being beaten the same way every week.

Throughout the day I heard three different Collingwood players state that Melbourne would rush at the ball in all parts of the ground, and they would simply pick the ball/ball carrier off once the ball was won by Melbourne.

In the finals last year, Geelong and Hawthorn tried to match Melbourne at this without success. West Coast played smarter rather than harder, knowing that the high press, rush the ball, 'chaos' style can be countered if you back off a little, encircle and pressure the ball carrier, and are willing to push the ball into space once the turnover is achieved.

Teams seem to be allowing Melbourne's gameplan to play out as scripted without fear it will damage them and comfortable that it will allow them to be efficient the other way. That this is continuing after 13 games is an absolute indictment on the club.

Yes, the list has been in bad shape (and mismanaged imo), but I also believe that Melbourne looks like it's players are unfit, slow, and lazy because the gameplan is horrendously inefficient (i.e. so much work has to be done to score and defend), and places people out of position for anything but push forward, repeat stoppage, and contested ball win. There are two key examples of this that are happening each and every game: 1) The forward line 'box' setup that asked the ball to be placed inside that box 30m out from goal, leading to what seems to be a crowded and unskilled forward line as forwards rush the ball and compete against eachother; and 2) The midfield instruction to win the ball at all costs, where midfielders are either out of position once the ball is lost (too close to the play), or are unable to break through the encirclement and are out of position once the ball is turned over.

Time to try and construct some goals through control and creativity, rather than just beating other teams over the head through brute force. Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Gawn, Jones, Harmes, etc. are all great ball winners, and it's time to allow them to do that and build the team around them winning the ball as opposed to having the entire team emulate them.

Of course  this would be countered if Melbourne kicked the goals that continually miss. We havent hurt the opposition when presented with the opportunity so the pressure on the ball carrier ramps up and in response we goo harder and so the cycle continues so we are dead on our feet at the end.

If we are going to play this style of game two things are needed .

    1) we must convert all our opportunities

    2) We must be the fittest team in the competition

We are neither and the seasons  results speak for them selves.

Yes and if you listened to the channel 7 telecast you would have heard Viney one minute before the bounce say our plan was to start fast and thats what they tried, fast handballs, fast kicks, fast thinking, all to no avail. So we are still playing the 2018 game that teams worked out. Perhaps if Goody and Co had watched a replay of the Prelim final they would know that as fact. By not watching that game and saying it wasnt our brand of footy he missed the point. The reason to watch was to understand the game plan used against us. Pretty basic stuff for a coach to absorb.

Yep "Sorry " that simple understanding seems lost in the noise

Personnel won't change the opposition getting out the back due to our high press which results in multiple inside 50s but no scores. Once they get out they just stroll into open space which contributes to their accuracy.

Most teams are scoring from the back half this year I think whereas we are still playing a forward press type game. Sometimes it might be better to allow the opposition easier exit from our 50 but choke then further upfield instead of pushing everyone up to cause repeat entries but then clogging our forward line so we can't score and the opposition having half a ground of free space when they eventually break through the press.

    I agree Doc

Our high press zoned space occupying defense system doesn't work.Either the plan is wrong the personell are wrong or the personell cant or wont play to the coaches expectation.
