Right now and probably for the next 2-3 seasons, Gawn and Grundy will rule but following that the Darcy , LJ combo will be supreme. Hearing how LJ will be used in a hybrid role and not pigeonholed as a ruck maybe true but then again it has Jeremy Howes feel to it.
-
So he pretty much knew start of year is what I’m hearing from the BS interview from his manager. List managers would have thought they’d convince him to stay or get better than Cerra in return.
-
Do we know the contract details? I know most don’t care but I’d be keen to learn what he sold us out for.
-
Wow so Cadman is clearly a pipe dream now. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees but I just feel that we have slipped in this years trade period. Giving 13 for Grundy will be the cherry on top. Also if I’m a Norf fan, I’m spewing. Two pick 1s out for pick 2,3 and a F1(PA ~12-16). Haha what a [censored] deal.
-
Pick 27 and F3 (Weid ESS)for Grundy I think. Wed need to use Freo F1 and 13 this year to chase Cadman if the opportunity is there otherwise I’d bank F1 as well for next year. So is WC prepared to that deal with us and will Norf trump us or give their pick to GWS. Sounds like Cadman has really moved up the draft order and is a possibility for pick 1.
-
Oh we will remember the LJ trade when it comes time for JVR. Freo don’t have a F1 anymore so best of luck to them. Hopefully we can sign JVR for a few additional years to prevent this from occurring.
-
No doubt we’d be looking to move 13, F1 to top 5 pick
-
I thought the AFL wouldn’t let you trade Futures in more than 1 round?
-
Is it Hunter wanting out or is it the Digs pushing? Didn’t he have some time away from the game earlier this year?
-
I’m not in the know but if anyone in his direct family has stumbled into some health challenges, then it does make sense. I can also understand just wanting to live in the place you grew up in. I have lived in 3 places all within 2km of each other since i can remember - close to 40 years and turned back multiple opportunities to work interstate or abroad. Also live close to my parents. So can’t really fault LJ for wanting to do the same.
-
It’s absolutely ludicrous that the RFA rules don’t apply. We should be able to match the Freo offer - maybe we can? I wonder what we would get in that scenario.
-
I agree but many don’t. Clearly MFC think it’s an option otherwise they would have bought in Grundy already.
-
That and out parting with Freo players. Now usually I couldn’t give a flying F for one’s social outings but you can see the perception that it creates. The fact that he has no interest in WC basically takes them out of the running and hence kills any leverage we had as the alternative (PSD) is not the option. It doesn’t take much to do a tour of one’s facilities and create an illusion that he would consider WC. But I suspect the player , manager are telling Bell that he will be at Freo next year. Why else would Freo be so cocky in their negotiations.
-
It’s pretty obvious IMV. I have no issue for LJ wanting to leave. It’s his right. However it’s not too much for us to ask LJ to behave professionally in the matter so that we are adequately compensated or have some leverage in negotiations. This is the part that leaves a sour taste and I’m sure the club would be unhappy with this as well given how much we have supported him and did right by him all year. It is quite disrespectful.
-
Parting ways with an employer that has treated you with respect with a big F U would say a lot about him. I do wonder if it would effect his standing with the players.
-
I have dibs on the handle if we recruit him 😂
-
Freo won’t want to lose out. The scumbags made a commitment to LJ and are really dragging him through the mud. Hopefully his manager realises the magnitude of his f up and advises LJ to consider discussing options with WC. Also they should flag publically that he’d be happy to extend with MFC if a deal cannot be reached as opposed to the PSD. This should have been the play from day 1.
-
You miss the point. The compensation will never be better than what we could get or the true value of LJ or any player and club in this situation. There needs to be parameters around it but the intent is that any player that is not a FA or RFA cannot just nominate and force the club that has invested in them to trade and be at the mercy of the target club. most times the current club has no standing and no leverage and would lose out by forcing their hand and letting them goto the PSD. By having some form of compensation that is triggered only when the player is forced to nominate the PSD, gives the current club something to use in negotiation. The parameters could be based on factors including age, requested salary, pick taken in the draft etc. The more I think about it, the more I think it’s required.
-
I’m wandering this as well I’d say we can sign all the way until the ND. His desire to get to Freo has to be used against him. Freo are desperate for him as well given how they have structured all lost changes to make room. The Lobb delay is clearly their tactic as Grundy is ours. Neither of us can have both of them at the same time with LJ. I say we stand firm and threaten PSD. Surely he resigns for another 1-2 as opposed to playing for Norf.
-
The AFL have to step in to stop this nonsense as well. Clubs with players departing need to have some compensation from the AFL comparable to worth. Not saying it has to overs but it gives some bargaining power so that the requesting club cannot bend them over. We cannot rely on their ‘good will’ anymore. If we don’t like the deal, fine send him to the PSD and get a comp pick at end of the first round or something along those lines.
-
I am starting to think the Lobb trade is holding it up. 13,30, F1, F2 (NMFC) gets it done for sure. it’s a minimum 3500 points and could be up to 4000ish point wise. We could then take 13, NMFC f2 , 30 to WCE for Pick 2 and end up with either Cadman or Warlord. We then have 2 picks inside 1st round next year and could again get into the top 10.

Welcome to Demonland: Country Road
Gawndy the Great replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
it was a one off discount and expired the week the offer was put out back in August. I sure hope we get the Demons win we win discount. -
Thats fine but he is still carrying unprofessionally with his interactions with the Freo club and non-interest in WC. He hasn't lived up to his end of the bargain from what can be made out on social media.
-
Twomey suggesting Cadman to go somewhere in 1-3 mark. Can see the other posts suggesting the same. We will struggle to get him and we'd need WC's pick 2 to have a chance. But even then, GWS will probably trade with NMFC to get him. Norf dont really need a number 1, but 2-3 first round picks would do them a great deal of becoming and remaining competitive for a while and thats even without even considering what they could get for JHF.
-
Because they'll net more picks in the following year having to get him to Freo. Its a one-off $1M investment for more picks to bring in more talent or trade for better players. It is a no-brainer for them and they'll have cap space. Also whats to say that he'll deman $1M? What if his contract with Freo is back-ended? As an aside, surely the AFL should look at compensation picks for clubs loosing players to the PSD. I havent thought about it too deeply and im sure there are opportunities for clubs to exploit this, but for scenario's where a trade cannot be organised, compensation should be awarded to the club loosing the player based on some fair-value calculation. This should at least create a deterrent for clubs not to offer under's and give some bargaining power for clubs that are in our position.
