Massive training session out at Casey today.....lots of match sim so i'm told.

I am not 'pro' Viney, however, he has demonstrated on all levels that he is ready, hungry & more than capable to go it alone! I feel also that he takes on & 'projects' the team first' role as skipper better than anyone with the exception of Max. Jones, a warrior, no argument, but his focus (to me anyway) has shifted somewhat over the last 2 years away from his tutelage, protection & support of the younger players & has shifted to self preservation & stats driven. Maybe I'm wrong...... Being a relatively young developing list, I have no doubt that the thought of the younger brigade, new recruits etc, is to vote the way they feel is right without upsetting the apple-cart rather than voting for the right man (men) for the job? Jones may prolong an already well credentialed career even longer with the reduced responsibility that a leadership role brings with it?

With the average lifespan of an AFL player measured at less than 5 years, Misso's longevity in a competitve industry has been amazing & not only has been a very loyal servant to the Dees but his influence has impacted significantly to our recent success......we have some big shoes to fill! JV, Gawn & Nev are so far ahead of any other MFC player when measuring there contribution, impact on a game & traits that a captain requires. If I was choosing, it would be JV (c), Gawn & Nev (vc's)

I'm not sure that a captain of any team aquires the leadership role because he simply 'deserves' it......It's usually because the players & coaching staff select the candidate & more importantly, he or she is the right person for the job. JV is the obvious choice for me whether he's on the park for 22 games or not, however, my thoughts are co-captains again for this season.
