  1. ...continue to consider Melbourne guilty until (not unless, until) proven innocent (by beating GWS) I should have just said ...remain skeptical
  2. For whatever you might think of Bob Murphy, he's great on radio (and telly, presumably). I like Gawn's communication and how he comes across (a lot) but, and pardon the skepticism, it does not feel like the playing group seem all that concerned about the challenge ahead. I suppose it turns on your view of who Max is really talking to in these things (not the fans, I presume). Sounds like Pedersen's papers are stamped and it's the Weid.
  3. All good points and well-reasoned. To be honest, I'm ambivalent about Goodwin. I remain unconvinced, but time will tell. And really, I don't mind who is coaching as long as we are improving, learning, attaining new heights, reaching finals. My point really was about my level of confidence with Goodwin - from afar and again, with no connection to the club, my lay observation is we appear to be making the same mistakes fairly regularly. Now whether that's gameplan or player habits or composure, it's up to the coach to take control of that and change things. (I recognise that these things can take time to ingrain.) I'd also like to understand what the KPIs are for the coach. I.e. is it finals this year, 2019, what? I'd like to understand what the measures of success are. If nothing else, it might quell unnecessary blow ups about his tenure. Thumbs up for the response.
  4. Really interesting dissection, brutal at times, especially on Lewis.
  5. I'm thick. Now we've got pleasantries out of the way, I'm very politely inquiring why?
  6. For some reason I am completely unperturbed by this.
  7. Jake Niall: it's cultural. Caro: "I don't know how they lost it." https://www.theage.com.au/podcast/the-age-real-footy-podcast/could-bringing-in-tom-lynch-backfire-on-richmond-20180813-p4zx93.html
  8. Sure, not disagreeing with any of that, and time etc etc etc. I guess my broader point, poorly made, obviously, was what is the level of confidence in Goodwin. I guess your response is give it time. Which is cool, I get that. As others have put, though, he's been in the system for a while and had a big head start. I just have a really low level of confidence, but I can't quite put my finger on why. It's not anything to do with vibe and Mabo, though. And I might be way wrong, because I have no link to the club beyond 32 years as a supporter.
  9. Respectfully disagree. Lack of composure, deer in headlights, panicky football = no scoreboard pressure. Allowed Sydney in it. And then 2 men down?
  10. There but for the grace of God, etc. That is telling reading. I hope it gives ol mate nightmares. Probably not though.
  11. In the interests of accuracy, part of what you said was " Anyone who thinks we lost because of our kicking for goal is clueless. " Now, it's true it might not be the only reason, but the numbers don't lie - turn 4.14 around and the discussion is academic. I blame the inaccuracy first. Whether its root cause is lack of composure, whatever, end result, bad kicking, bad footy.
  12. Amazing to see how quickly the Gaff-Brayshaw hyperbole has been quelled. It will be interesting to see how things progress. Is there any sense when we might get an indication?
  13. No doubt from here, I take it in good faith/on face value. Who is doubtful as to the veracity? Good points, too. A summer off and he might be fine. Due diligence needed. He's only, what, 26?
  14. My personal opinion looking at on/off field demeanour is to favour Lever in a leadership role. That's observation from afar though.
  15. Erm, to be fair, we played GC twice, SKFC twice, Adelaide x 2 (admittedly for one booster), Dogs x 2 and have luckily only met Richmond, Hawthorn and Pies once and will only meet WCE and GWS once, or else our % might be a lot worse. Don't forget to make up for the rather large losses to Hawks, Tiges and Pies (3 losses), we had to [censored] Carlton, Suns, Adelaide by a factor of x2-3, plus win a heap of games in the range 30-60 odd points. Had we really beaten Geelong or Sydney (with straight kicking) this line might have more validity. (I agree with your broader point though: % is less important than actually winning big games.)
  16. Tom Cruise more reliable output than the MFC, even with a broken ankle. Saw it yesterday. Walked out, checked scores, rolled eyes. "Luv! Hey Luv! We've got the Colliwobbles!"
  17. Good point. No longer surprised at lots of wins against bottom sides, to the extent we're expecting them (and expecting some to be big). Heightened expectations (which is what made St Kilda loss worse). Had we beaten St Kilda we'd have an incredible record against all teams below us bar Geelong. MFC more reliable against lower teams. Now for the big games. Good perspective. (We'll still miss the finals and I'll be spewing but.)
  18. Against Sydney, we brought it, in spades. However, the team went full Ian Baker-Finch and basically lost the game off the boot in the first half. It's really that simple. Bad kicking (and lack of composure) is bad footy.
  19. I took 8s after the GC win. My crystal ball was right. Only regret was not putting on more.
