  1. This is the best chance we’ll have of landing a big fish for a while with King’s connection to the two Gold Coast boys. With players coming from pretty much any other club we can’t compete. Flanders is a salmon but Humphrey’s a marlin. If they both opt for elsewhere it’s going to be a bleak little few year period.
  2. Stronger draft? Their offer was this year’s draft, which is a shocker. Will end up being around pick 25. They used their first rounder last year on Bailey Smith.
  3. People wanting Bailey Humphrey AND Flanders for Trac have rocks in their head. Humphrey would be worth more on the open market than Trac by himself. He’s 8 years younger and ready to explode. Trac’s been a wonderful player but his best days are behind him. Flanders is a nice player but Humphrey has top 5 player in the competition potential. If we can somehow prise him out of Gold Coast this all becomes a lot more palatable.
  4. If we could somehow turn Trac and Clarry into Humphrey and Flanders this will all be worth it. Pipe dream I’m sure, sadly.
  5. Petracca has currency. He wants to leave, his teammates are sick of him and if he leaves we’re duly compensated with draft picks and with his wage going off our books. Oliver has no currency. He’s still popular with teammates and wants to stay at the club. Despite not earning his huge wage the last couple of years, he’s now in a great place off-field and was showing signs towards the end of last season that he’s getting back to his best. And even at 85% capacity, he’s still our best midfielder. If he leaves we won’t be duly compensated, in fact we’ll have to pay for him to play elsewhere. That’s bonkers.
  6. The Petracca situation I completely understand, from his point of view and the club’s. The Oliver situation has me absolutely baffled.
  7. Hope you’re right mate. It’s all doom and gloom on trade radio - “Clarry devastated” etc 🙄
  8. Say what you like about Tim Lamb, but he actually walked the walk in terms of helping deliver our club a flag, rather than just talking the talk. I think I’d rather that.
  9. This is exactly the issue! As I said in another thread a few days ago, the club have been deeply disappointed with Tholstrup both on and off field this year. It’s now time for him to justify the faith the club’s showed in him.
  10. If a club’s willing to pay Jack Silvagni $900k a season, I’m pretty sure a club would be happy to take over Petracca’s $1.3m a season 😆
  11. Morris thinks Flanders more likely to go to St Kilda ☹️
  12. Glad to hear/hoping Tholstrup’s knuckling down in this off-season. He was hit right between the eyes during his exit interview that his on field performances and off field habits are a long way off AFL standard, let along first round draft pick standards. One to watch in pre-season.
  13. What on earth are you talking about? Twomey’s probably the most reliable journalist in the business.
  14. The players are really pleased Whitford’s been appointed to the head of development role. I won’t denigrate Choco, he’s been great, but he’s reached his use by date. Whitford’s a terrific relationship builder (which is probably half the role) and an excellent communicator. He’s earnt his chance. And by saving a bit of money on this role, it’ll hopefully allow a couple of bigger name appointments around King.
  15. Tough when you’re picked up as one of the best mids in the VFL, then thrown in at AFL level in a graveyard position you haven’t played much before. And then told to go back to the VFL to try to perfect that same thankless, often unrewarded position. Not at all saying the club’s wrong to do this, it obviously makes sense to play him in that high half forward role at VFL level if that’s where he’ll play in the senior team. Just that it’s hard for him, or anyone, to stand out on the stats sheet when playing it. Hoping he can get his groin right and have an impact next year.
  16. Agree with the point you’re making about us needing to trade in better players but over half?! 6 of Geelong’s prelim final 23 started at another club. Our 2021 GF side had 5.
  17. Just been told Lappin’s staying at Geelong sadly.
  18. It beggars belief that anyone could be this naive and delusional.
  19. He’s been at Geelong for 17 years. Might feel like it’s time for a new challenge. Would be an unbelievable get. This is a great read on him; https://www.afl.com.au/news/1422313/uncut-gems-how-geelong-cats-built-empire-from-rookies-rejects-and-draft-leftovers
  20. We’d be absolutely laughed out of the room with that proposal.
