NON-MFC: Rd 03 2023
I'm thinking winning form is good form. Until Bontempelli makes his touches dangerous, Dogs will be in trouble. Their young players are struggling. Naughton needs to convert his opportunities. Their game plan also looks a bit shaky. Even if they fix up game day execution, they are up against a side that likes challenges. We let Ashcroft have too much freedom, we couldn't control the centre and our backline gave it up to smart forward entries. Dogs play a bit like MFC, and the Lions already have a style that beat that structure. The contested game and pressure on the ball carrier will show if the Dogs want "it". The Brisbane forward line looks good, Hipwood, McGluggage, Gunston, Daniher and Cameron. Lobb and Treloar will help the dogs, but Brissy has the win over us and learnings about playing to the end. Whereas the Dogs are already under stress, with two losses. Lions for me. The extra umpire, has made a difference. No favours for the Dogs tonight.

GAMEDAY: Rd 02 vs Brisbane
I can see Brisbane playing a hit them hard, give them nothing game. Prepare for a fight. Love to see us continue with the use of attacking corridors, the good use of angles as we go into the 50, and the great transition between offence and defence. Still need to work on momentum and tempo, which we did well in game 1. May will be well schooled on game analysis and structures, after the week in the coaches box. Oliver, Pettraca, Viney and Gawndy at the stoppages, yes. Hunter to have an outstanding game, (without thoughts of his old team). Run them off their feet TMac. Hit it hard Chandler, get in "the zone". J.Smith is an interesting emergency. Can't be game fit! Perhaps for 50 minutes, though Tomlinson/Melksham, even JJ as sub, must be ahead of him. Go Dees.

Farewell Luke Jackson
With 11 disposals, 3 marks and 71 AF's (I think fantasy points), Weeds was a good cog in the bomber.

POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
Ran the game out, reflects our preparation. We had a clean, fast start. Our capacity to deal with momentum control has improved. We wrestled the momentum by getting some tempo and composure when we had the ball. The structural changes continue to develop, with an emphasis on roles still holding firm. The ball movement patterns have made for a very quick but unpredictable delivery into the 50.

TRAINING: Friday 17th March 2023
Gorgeous morning at Gosch's. They walk to the paddock in separated groups. A mingled splattering of goal kickers and talkers. Goody and Chapman enter, the whistle blows, and they're away. A tight circle as they hear from Marty (club volunteer) and welcome the debutantes. They hit their straps in a six station drill, and found their voices in the three players running through the centre, passing and running on. A slow motion sim, as players under the ball are given time. Though not much space. The coaches instructing as to who would get the stoppage, or would take the ball with a request or call on the lead. Goody pumped a long kick down the corridor. Chocco leading and trying high skill kicking. Other trainers in as well. McVee hanging with the backline group. Bowey focused. Laurie looked completely ready. Had a great training. He backed up his team-mates a couple of times. Tomlinson is looking fast and tall. Melky barely missed a goal. BBB turning well when switching within the triangles. The park had, Storm with full teams training, and The Victory about to go through their issues. GO DEES

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
Petty had some trouble on a taller opponent. He didn't get strong enough body weight on to the Saints player. Perhaps, he should have got more of a run up at him, or he gets support from other backmen (which he had none of, in the marking contest) Good learning for him on how to play those with long arms.

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
TRAINING MONDAY, 13 MARCH 2023, was a bit of a photo shoot. The media was there. Most of the players having shots over the manequins, many hanging them from the shaded area on the boundary. Fritta doing laps, had one kick at goal, and wearing his normal training jersey (the one with their number on it) . Viney still in rehab, pushing himself in the laps. He did a few with Salem, half ways, and more full laps. Looks like he is working to be match fit. As he ended up bent over a couple of times. Oliver was working closely with Moniz-wakefield. J.Smith was in his training jersey as well, looking free to go and happy. BBB was kicking long 40 m goals from straight out. He and Vines the last on the paddock
